I started to get migraines every other month during periomenopause. I could control them once I got my hormones in order. I started taking a high dose magnesium pill every day for a week before my period and used a bio (organic) progesterone. I rubbed the progesterone on the back of my neck and temples. If I waited too long to do these 2 things, I would have to do it with the migraine already starting and I would also take an aspirin. This method saved me. My doctors could not give me any help - other than my gynecologist wanting to put me on migraine medication. I don't like meds unless necessary and I knew I wasn't having the 'normal' migraines. It was hormonal. For me the migraines had gotten so bad I had vomited and could not be around any light. Since my hysterectomy, I haven't had much trouble, but a few months ago, I felt one coming again. This truly surprised me as I had thought they were over. But I did my 'migraine ritual' and it disappeared. I hope this helps. It's a widely misunderstood migraine. Good luck to all!

I have to second the Magnesium! I used to get terrible migraines, and quite often. I started taking Magnesium and they tapered off in severity and frequency. I had to stop all supplements for a surgery, and within 3 days I had one of the worst migraines of my life! Also, keeping up your iron levels is important as well.

Age: 47) I just started experiencing peri-menopausal headache, dizziness (lightheadedness) and even nausea symptoms. I find making a smoothie with a banana, kale or spinach, unsweetened almond milk and some ginger helps somewhat.

As always common sense approach which I love...I suffer from migraine and try best to manage it...mine are in 2 week cycle one at beginning and end....in between I could sleep and sleep....I would gladly have taken HRT though I never take tablets even the tiniest dose triggered migraine and just wasn't worth the risks of stroke etc

Thanks Caron, hope these will ease off as time goes by, some women do find that once the hormones settle these kinds of symptoms decrease. Maybe look at doing a little gentle liver work as the liver is often involved with hormone balance. If you're in the UK or Ireland you could try our Milk Thistle Complex for a couple of months to see how you get on. Best Wishes Eileen

As always very helpful Eileen. Thank you so much. Could you advise please on which Magnesium and Vitamin B you recommend? Unfortunately we do not get Vogel products in the UAE. I really wish you shipped here too. Kindly consider.

You're welcome Mal P I would suggest either mag citrate, mag taurate or mag glycinate as these tend to absorb well. A vitamin B Complex 50mg is a good standard dose. We have looked at shipping but encountered lots of problems with customs, sorry. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Eileen I have a question about the sinus and migraine do they go away after I finish menopausal or postmenopausal. I will appreciated 🙏 😌
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 2 жыл бұрын
Hi This is such a difficult question to answer, sorry as it would be different for everyone. Migraines, if they are caused by fluctuating hormones, do tend to resolve after time but sinus issues may remain depending on what, exactly is causing them. Sorry I can be more specific in this situation. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Lowey I have posted video blogs on these and how you can help yourself so please do take a look. However, we don't recommend self-treatment for depression, if you have had this diagnosed by your doctor you would need to see a health care professional for proper treatment. www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/who-am-i-now/ www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/managing-stress-in-the-menopause/ www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/the-mentalpause-revisited/ www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/how-to-beat-menopause-fatigue/ Best Wishes Eileen

Hi!! SOmetimes my strong headaches are preceded by a cough, not always but sometimes, and this is another question, cough is part of this cycle of perimenopause? I always cough but dont have any pulmonary problems, I already check this.
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Matay I have not heard of this connection so it is a bit of a mystery! I assume that your doctor has checked this to make sure there are no other underlying issues? If all is OK then it may be related to the nervous system over-firing so you may find taking a magnesium supplement, approx 200mg twice a day, and a muscle relaxing herb such as Avena sativa or Valerian helpful. Best Wishes Eileen

Are ocular migraines common in post menopause?
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 3 ай бұрын
Some women do find that migraines appear or get worse post menopause due to low oestrogen levels. Low magnesium and dehydration can also be factors Best Wishes Eileen
