Honestly it's really hard for me as a person whose perspective was somewhat similar to Ginny's growing up to see that most comments in posts about Ginna and Georgia say "Ginny is just finding reasons to have mommy issues" and "I would die to have a mom like Georgia". So many of them don't understand the whole perspective between everyone and so I really appreciate that you took a deep dive into it. Georgia has so much going on internally that she never addressed that it's doing harm to her kids. Ginny does have a right to feel mad, AND it is also true that Ginny is making choices that are not constructive to rebuilding herself. Ginny nor Georgia have the tools alone to help themselves and thats why Therapy would be good for them. When they do engage in therapy together, it was rough at first because Georgia has such strong beliefs about not showing any weaknesses

Most things that you brought up about trauma come full circle in the next season with with Georgia and both her children. I actually find the truma of the younger son very interesting. Because he is so young and his storyline and acting are suddle you don't pay much attention until something big happens and it all comes to the surface.

Great video. Glad to see you reacting to this. Hope you react to season 2 which was the catalyst for the flurry of comments recommending it. It’s a silly show in many ways, season 1 was definitely a guilty pleasure but I found myself really impressed with season 2, it grew up a lot and seemed to take a lot more care in how it portrayed mental health. Season 2 also includes a number of therapy scenes and has an episode shot from a secondary characters point of view and delves into depression quite a lot and does a really fantastic job of it in all aspects from the change in cinematography style to the script and acting.

Speaking as a survivor of CSA, a teenage girl pulling a gun on her sexually abusive stepfather is all about preemptively protecting herself from future abuse. I don't expect a battered teenager to have the language to express that in the moment but a trained therapist should be able to understand that a teen with a gun pulled on her assaulter saying "an eye for an eye" isn't just about "revenge."

sorry I feel nothing for that guy. Ill admit I haven't watched the show because I didnt realize it would be about this. but if he was the one being abusive, then have at it sis. this Is the only way she can defend herself. she's a tiny female teenager and he's a grown ass man. self defense laws as they stand can't apply because there's no way a fist to fist fight in the actual moment of abuse could ever be equal. so she has to go off and get a weapon and or take him by surprise in order to defend herself from further harm. there's too many women in jail for the same thing and it makes no sense. unless there's a loaded weapon near them or happenstance happens, like a really heavy lamp is near by or something, then there can be no equal fight, but even then, those would be classed as weapons and no longer an "equal" fight, even though the fight could never be equal in the first place. then these men kill their partners and kids and get nothing. right on Georgia, end him. and if she does end up in jail, they'll be women outside the courthouse and online fighting for her release because she did nothing wrong.

I think I would interesting if you discussed Marcus's rpisode in season 2, it seems to be a more realistic depiction of depression from the perspective of the person that depressed rather than an outside observer

this was *such* a good video. i appreciate how in all your videos, you break down mental illnesses and how they manifest in kind and compassionate ways, while also speaking clinically. i find people usually discuss them either one or another and sometimes without the level of dignity you show, if that makes sense! i'm so excited to see your future videos, both on Ginny & Georgia and others! keep it up, Dr. Elliot :))

When someone has a vague resemblance to my abuser it takes a while to convince my own brain it isn’t him. God forbid I ever have to work etc. with someone who wears a certain cologne. It’ll be back to back seizures and panic attacks pour moi

I'm always so happy whenever you post, your videos are always so good. I really hope you watch season 2 as well. Season 1 was (in my opinion) a bit too lenient on Georgia and in return it was a bit difficult to relate to Ginny. In season 2 they give us a more nuanced view of Georgia and they put more focus on Ginny and showing us exaclty why she struggles the way she does. We also see some of Austins struggles and how he has been impacted by growing up the way he did.
