So much good stuff in this video but I think what I love most is the fun that everybody is having on set. Most people consider photography a passion of theirs and there should be much joy, satisfaction and laughter with it.

Marissa was fabulous at getting different different expressions great job. Loved the job that update Victoria did as a model and her confidence to not wear makeup at all. Wonderful I wish more women did that. My mom still looked good at a 100 years old without makeup

Daniel, Seth, Marissa and all of the crew are actually entertaining to watch. I love photography and a bit of fun mixed in. Beats Netflix. I think these are pushed a little bit with over acting. You were always great to watch to learn and laugh. Don't lose the personality.

Such a fun session! Y’all are total goofballs, but at the same time, there’s a lot of great information in this video. Marisa asks great questions, Victoria is a great model, and of course, Daniel, you make it all seem effortless, and are super encouraging!

That was a fun shoot and informative, too. Always great to see Marissa and Daniel together. Maybe Daniel could try a white t-shirt and black jeans? Thanks, guys.

Great series of video "Mentoring Marisa" Daniel Norton! Its very refreshing seeing how excited Marisa gets while taking pictures, it reminds me of when I started taking pictures and how so many possibilities will pop in my head. You did an excellent job at pointing out what to watch for when getting too close. Thank Daniel Norton, Marisa and Model for sharing the experience and giving many of us a clearer idea of what a "shoot" is like!

4:00 - YEEEEEESSSSSS ! Go Daniel! So much the right answer. Shallow Depth of Field has it's place, such as in a dramatic scene of a film, but it's like every other tool, it doesn't need to be in every dang photo or scene! Go look in Hitchcock's work, see if you can find it,... It's visual punctuation, not the dialog. And let's not forget, most of the super fast lenses, are sharpest stopped down several steps. To achieve the softness on the skin and fill in details, think I'd rather increase the size of the light source.

Few recommendations: Composition Also, as fun as it is to watch Marissa do rapid fire shots, I'd love to watch her compose and shoot purposefully with an image in mind! Dramatic portraiture I highly enjoyed dramatic images of Marissa and definitely want her to exercise the style! Full body & Posing I mostly recall headshots of Marissa but I think her capturing full body and instructing models to pose would be interesting!

Great video. I really like the one light and V flat set up, I could use foam core or reflectors instead. Marisa is certainly getting better and better at the craft. She is just as enjoyable to watch as a photographer or model. Victoria was great too. Keep them coming. Thanks Daniel, Marisa and Victoria. 😀👍🇨🇦

Awesome Daniel and Marisa! Marisa did such a good job. There are definitely a lot of keepers. Wish I had seen this earlier. I did some headshots for a friend and I got "creative" with the lighting. Wish I shot cleaner, but the results were still usable for him.

Good video I enjoyed the light tutorial. I know some excellent fashion photographers who actually do shoot at times with a shallow depth of field mixed in with their other shots too.

Hmmm, I'm a guy (not a photographer) with an expensive lens. Never looked at me that way. 😉😁 But since I've tried with flashes, I reach for f5.6-8. 😁 It's nice watching you two. Will finish this episode, and the others of #mentoringmarisa. 👌👌👌

I hope I am allowed to put in a request: I would really love to see a plus-size person as model. It would be great to hear your tips and tricks around lighting and posing to have a portrait look flattering even if you have a double chin for example.

Tips or video on sticking to your photo shoot plan, keeping on track, organized etc? I always plan my shoot, scout my location and have an idea about what I want. I mainly shoot portraits. Once we get started, between getting the clients in position, worrying about poses etc, my thought process seems to go out the window. I always end up with good portraits, but not without crazy stress, and they are usually different than what I planned. Any advice at all?

This is great to see your approach with single light and V-Shape bounce - perfect for the work Im doing and Marisa's questions are spot on. One question I would love your wisdom and process on providing all the shots or only the ones you approve from a headshot/portrait session? I typically dont limit number of shot as with different outfits and lighting styles it can get up to a few hundred. But 99% of the time Im providing these as a download after the session because most clients dont seem to want to stick around and go through shots and pick favourites or dont have time to do it, but I find that in picking out the shots that I feel are winners, clients often later recall certain poses or expressions that didnt make the grade in my mind and I hadnt included. So these days Im prretty much sending everything from the session minus any closed eyes or obvious issues but sometimes I feel that can be overwhelming for clients and many have very minor differences in expression Im not sure this is the way to go. Any recommendations that might help with this process?

Time for Marisa to start wearing flat shoes, and black or charcoal gray slacks and shirt/blouse? Will there not come a time when the colored (other than black) outfits will effect the shot? Not telling but asking. I think I understand that in the studio it is not so much an issue (if establishing the base exposure to black to kill the ambient) but I am not sure. Would it be more of an issue with constant lights?

@DANIELNORTONPHOTOGRAPHER, Marissa took her first ttl shot you immediately said that it was a little dark for your taste but you never let her come to any of her own conclusions about what she thought of the first shot. Then when Marissa was curious about the shallow depth of field you instantly told her that it was bad advice to shoot at a shallow depth of field and said it was a gimmick. To me the best way to mentor/teach is to let her take the shot and then come up with what she like and doesnt like about it and then tell her why you would or wouldn't use a certain technique. Now with that said I'm sure youre an amazing teacher with a lot of knowledge so I'm not saying these things to discredit you but just to maybe look at teaching with a slightly different approach. Anyways great video!
