Come with me on a Tour of the Boeing 737MAX cockpit. I will show you differences between the MAX and the NG and I will even start up the engine and show you some cool differences in the Jet Engine start sequence.
I just happened to find this empty Boeing 737MAX simulator littering around in a Simulator centre in London and thought I should take you for a tour when I had the chance. The video quality is not great in the beginning since I didn't have my normal camera kit with me but I think you will still get the point.
Enjoy!

The presenter has a remarkable ability to explain complex aviation topics to non-experts. His presentations make me wish I could book flights where he is captain. This also makes me wonder whether the general public can find out the safety records of individual pilots before taking a flight.

The Boeing 737 Max's reputation is now badly damaged just like the Douglas DC10's in the 1970s when the DC10 suffered some serious / fatal accidents due to a combination of design flaws, technical problems, maintenance errors, and pilot errors.

supertrix101 - Despite it’s reputation, the DC-10 remained in service for many years after its early troubles. People flew on it - even those like me who didn’t like it, because it took us where we needed to go. I feel much better about the 737 Max than I did about the DC-10. The Max is an excellent aircraft which had one horrible defect. It’s been fixed and it’s time to move on, in my opinion.

A note: the MOTORING segment of the CFM-LEAP startup is typically faster (a few seconds). The reason why the FADEC motors the engine longer in this case was because the engine was still hot from the previous shutdown (EGT initially shows 196 deg), and needs to cool down first to reduce the chance for a Hot Start

I personally would feel very safe on the Max when it comes back into service. After all the fixes and inspections by aviation experts the 737Max aircraft will probably be the safest aircraft in the sky. There is absolutely no way Boeing would allow one more of their aircraft to go down because they know they would never recover and all the airlines would take their business to Airbus. So I personally feel the 737max will be the safest aircraft in the sky, Boeing simply can not afford one more crash to happen or it's over for them. When the 737max comes back I will happily fly on one and I would feel safe putting my family on one.
@Acroposthion
@Acroposthion 5 жыл бұрын
Boeing’s 737 is only the *most successful and safest* jet aircraft series in history. But hey, you DO get a little more hip room on an A320.... Media conjecture and hyperbole do not make for an unsafe aircraft! Operators pushing malfunctioning aircraft into continued service = problems. Operators pushing for minimalist ‘Difference Training,’ will inevitably get what they paid for.

"Can you take the simulator for a quick spin around the block?" - Difficult. They've moved the indicator lever, so until Petter finds it, he won't be able to let other planes know when he's turning left or right.

This aircraft has gone under more scrutiny than any other aircraft has. However, I completely understand why. The good news is now that the aircraft has been cleared to be put into service in the USA and Europe, it will be the safest aircraft in the sky bar none!

@2point7182818284590 2 жыл бұрын
This aircraft doesn't even have an Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) which is mandatory since years for new planes but got lobbied away somehow. No, this absolutely is not the safest plane and it definitely never will be as Boeing already made clear that they never ever will upgrade the 737 MAX cockpit to current safety standards.

On the NG each one did a different part of cutting out electric stab trim control (one was for the autopilot side of thing, the other for the electric trim on the yoke). On the MAX now they both cutoff everything, and one is the primary and the other is just the backup. It's pretty crucial in the whole ET302 case if you've read the report

A leading cause of death is being unable to handle the situation of newly exposed hidden edge cases within the uncompensated parameters that arise AS A RESULT OF TOGGLING AUTOPILOT ON OR OFF. (mostly, OFF) I.e. Air France 447 -- could have continued to fly _through the storm_ with AP ON and flight parameters resulting only from compensational feedback loop.
@zyxyuv1650

@@GVTSounds You're right about 447 *with an old aircraft only* but I am referring to the fix - i.e. flying a Boeing 828 with AP1, AP2, AP3, ((AP4)), RP1, ((RP2)) and AP3, AP4 have redboxed physical locality and flight sensors on isolated power, and AP3 cannot be disengaged unless Emergency is declared. If the plane is able to execute a disallowed procedure (while not in declared Emergency and before control by AP3 and RP1 or RP2 OR AT ANY TIME by RP2 and AP3 or AP4) without arresting the pilot, it means that the procedure was never specified to begin with.

The 1960s are in there, they have used Futura in quite a few places of this new plane. This font was also used all over the space programme back in the day. Although it’s a nice font (timeless and geometric, designed in 1928, Bauhaus), one would really design a custom font these days that works particularly well on screen. There is really no reason to make everything look like some sort of terminal mode basic pixelated font stuff. Even if it needs to be very basic - maybe it’s more stable this way - the fonts could be changed. The choice of font matters even in a car when it comes to reaction speed. How long it takes you to read something is just quite vital, especially on an aircraft.

I saw a A350 cockpit video. And now... When I see the 737 cockpit even the Max. Seems a very old. I kinda liking more Airbus now, I have been a huge Boeing FAN. But the A350 is just fantastic!

The A350 has a spaceship cockpit. I hate it when it doesn't look like an aircrafts flightdeck.

Leonardo Corrales - Boeing have always been conservative about changes to the controls. That’s a good thing, in my opinion.

Flying an airplane is not like driving a car! Driving license is for life, pilot license has to be maintained, periodical checks are needed. New plane or new cockpit means new Type Rating, e.g training e.g. time and money. And nobody wants to spend money. For this reason looks MAX as older 737 to be flown with the same type rating. And also, aviation is quite conservative becase every screw, literally, has to be certified which costs again lot of money and time. New cars are made every 5 years, planes are in service for 30 years and 60.000 to 150.000 flight hours.

Could you show us the MCAS operation as it still exists before any software fixes are implemented. Then another video after the software fixes, microprocessor fix, autopilot fix, and runaway trim fix so we can verify its safe to fly in ?

Beautiful screens that u can watch while falling of the sky... btw Boeing should reanimate the 757 to compete the a321 neo in medium haul aircraft market, its excellent performance and gorgeous look would make this piece of engineering unbeatable competitor to all of aircraft produced by now.

Is the information displayed on the screens interchangeable between screens? What if one of them gets damaged during flight? I observed some of the information was being displayed only on one screen. In short , there must be some redundancy in information display system. I would like to know about it.

If you look where he pressed the "info" button to change the co-pilots display there is a selector knob that allows you to change what each of the inner displays, display.
@Valantir
@Valantir 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it works exactly as you suggest. One screen goes down and you can put it on another display. Pretty sure (not familiar with the max but with other plane) you could lose 3 of 4 and still have all the info you need

Do jet engines experience extra wear when not running for prolonged periods as on the currently grounded 737max fleet? Thank you.
@trellofello7473
@trellofello7473 5 жыл бұрын
No abnormal wear whatsoever. Having said that, most of the operators of the grounded aircraft are doing periodic engine runs to keep the engine seals/components etc. lubricated. They will have many checklists to go through, and many hours of work to get an aircraft ready for flight after such a long time being out of service (estimates are between 100 to 150 hours of prep work, per aircraft).

Like blabla said, I doubt he made it himself, there's tons of his fans that are artists so someone probably made it for him. In terms of software, I'm 99% sure it's Adobe After Effects with a plugin called 'Element 3D' by Video Copilot.

Thx for the video. I’m looking at bidding the cseries or the Max and am trying to make a decision. I have to admit, the max cockpit is nice. I like it a lot more, minus the size and the fact that you cant put your suitcase in it.
