Welcome to my sewing room...I hope that you enjoy our Quilty time together today:)
In this video I am talking about my new sew along for the
MERCANTILE SAMPLER QUILT and showing you how to make the first Sampler Block called BIRTHDAY CAKE.
I am using the 2 1/4" and also the 4" Trim-It Rulers to trim the half square triangles in this block.

Thank you, Lori, for taking the time to provide your tutorials. I started watching you with your "Bloom" tutorials. I have the kits for Bloom & Autumn Love but have yet to begin sewing them. My husband of 50 years passed away December 2022 and my life doesn't seem to have purpose. I would sit with him while he read & I would listen to your tutorials with my headphones. I feel my sewing skills are still borderline beginner/intermediate and I am still trying to get the courage to begin sewing again. Your instruction is so detailed which is wonderful for someone like me. You are a blessing to all quilters! Thank you.

Lori you are a great teacher and I appreciate that you share your experiences with quilting to me and the world. I’m a quilter and I always put your videos on while I’m sewing. Hi Lori! Hope you are well. I have missed seeing you here on your You Tube channel. Looking forward to your new book Prairie Home coming in November. I love all the fabric lines you have come out with and your ideas on ways to use them. I have noticed that you are revisiting some of your fabric lines such as Calico and Autumn and that Prim is going to be reprinted. I hope someday you will re-visit Farm Girl Vintage. It is my most favorite of all. It brings me such joy to work with it. When I am working with this fabric line I feel like I am out on the farm on a bright sunny day and that makes me happy! The colors in this line are so bright and cheerful!😊 I love looking through both of your Farm Girl Vintage books there are so many fun ideas! The hard part is deciding which project to do. I am thankful that Fat Quarter Shop still carries the Farm Girl Vintage line but I am always afraid at some point it won't be available, so I hope that you will do a reprint of this line someday. I appreciate you and all you do and share with us. Thank you!❤

Good morning. I usually do not make comments, but I have to say that I love your fabric line. It brings new inspiration to my quilting world. I have been quilting for 30 some years and watching your videos have taught me new skills that I did not know. I am always learning new tips. Your craft room is such an inspiration that I have had to reorganize mine. As other quilters have stated your voice is very calming and soothing. Thank you - nice little block, er more like big block and pretty fabrics! I love your pin magnet too - it looks like a flower with stamens blowing in the wind from above - very cute! Always amazed at how accurate everything is. I bought some double pins to try - takes a bit of getting used to, but much easier than using two pins separately, taking them out, trying again etc!

I love the method of piecing a block and then turning it into a circle to easily applique onto a four patch. You continue to show new and different methods to make beautiful blocks. Thank you for making this video. ❤

Hello Lori, Loved watching the first tutorial in January, and though I am a bit behind I am going to catch up between today and over the weekend. Love the way you teach, so detail-oriented which sometimes I need in sewing! The circle ruler is the one tool I am looking forward to receiving in the mail soon, however I do have a couple of tools that I can use in the meantime. I plan to do 12 of the 25 blocks for a smaller project, so I went through my stash and purchased the rest from the list I will need. Looking forward to this and more in the future. Thank you for sharing your talent !!

I have completed this first block. Thanks again for all the hard work you put in to prepare all these sew alongs and choosing all the fabric to make it possible. I have enjoyed all of the sew alongs and, though I am getting older, i hope to be able to make a few more and watch all of them. Too bad i cannot live to be two hundred years old to make plenty .....but unless they find a formula, i lll just have to be content with live reality and do my best to stay in good health and safe as long as possible.

Anybody else thinking about using one fabric to sew the circle on instead of 4? Each block would be different fabric though. Somehow to me this looks busy. I would like the pieced block to stand out more and thinking this would help. That being said I really love this quilt, it is so different with the pieced block being centered in the white circle…love, love.

Love it, Lori! Thank you for the great tutorial. I was anxious to get started and I made my first 2 blocks but I trimmed my background before I appliqued. I won't be doing that again and will have to measure to see how much I might have lost.

I always put my quilt project in its own Artbin box. I like to keep my binding on the Riley Blake quilty tool. I love to keep my blocks on the design boards during the process. I have my different seasonal fabrics in their own decorative boxes/totes. For instance my valentines fabric is in a box design in hearts, my Christmas fabric is in decorative Christmas theme boxes. I have a dresser that has 3 drawers. One has my different battings, one has all my fusible, and one has my different quilting tools. I do like organization. It’s helps when you are doing a project for sure.

I love this series! The blocks are challenging and beautiful and Lori is a wonderful instructor! I goofed on my 2nd block when I did not realize Marigold Legacy and Lettuce Legacy share the same stock number and just pulled up the one FQ that had that number on the salvage, not noticing that the Lettuce Legacy was there but had no number on the salvage. But I am not going to redo! I will just read more carefully in future!
