Summer is the best time to present a car together with a caravan. Such a combination was launched by Corgi in the late 1970s. The Mercedes 240d is a beautiful model that is perfect for pulling a caravan. The models shown in this video are in 1 : 36 scale. My kit needed restoration and I had to replace the windscreen in the Mercedes, which was cracked. I also show in the video how to make the missing trailer hitch. I made the box for this kit, which is based on the original company's very presentable one. I thank you for watching the video, I publish car repair videos on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I remember that I had one of these, and was glad that you had painted the car blue, as that is the colour of the one that I had. I enjoyed many hours of playing with the car and caravan. I do not think that Corgi put the badge on above the radiator, as it would be broken off easily, and I don't think that the children who were given these to play with, would notice that the badge was missing, if it was not there to start with. The one that you have repaired looks very nice, and I wish that I could go on holiday in it now, if I could shrink myself small enough to go on holiday in it.

Den Mercedes hatte ich als Kind auch, nur leider ohne Wohnwagen. War eben gebrauchtes Spielzeug aber in guten Zustand, und als Kind kümmert es nicht ob gebraucht oder neu, Hauptsache Spielzeug. Hast es schön restauriert, mir gefällt es.

Den hatte ich in blaumetallic („Metalliclack“ hat mir mein Papa damals anhand dieses Modells erklärt) und rot-weißer Markise. Er ist irgendwann ziemlich heruntergeritten gewesen, hat zum Schluss diverse Crashtests erdulden müssen und ist dann in der Schrottpresse namens Schraubstock gelandet…😂. Nur der Wohnwagen ist noch da, allerdings ebenfalls ohne den Ring in der Kupplung. Die Idee mit dem Metallring ist klasse. In meinem steht eine Blumenvase auf dem Tisch. Im Jahr 2000 habe ich doch nochmal ein ziemlich schönes Set ersteigern können, das heute im Regal in meinem Büro steht und mich daran erinnert, wie schön analog und gesund die Kindheit in den Siebzigern und Anfang der Achtziger war. Auch mein Technik-Lego ist damals gnadenlos bespielt worden. Heute kriegen die Kids teure Sets, bauen lediglich ein Modell fürs Regal und machen sonst nichts mehr damit. Digitales Spielen raubt wohl den Spaß an der Realität. Danke für das schöne Video!🤝

Another one of my beloved childhood models, although I hated Corgi's idea of going from 1/43th scale to 1/36th, which meant that new additions to the collection blended very poorly with older models. I don't think it was ever explained, why they did this, but it happened at a time when Corgi and others were "dumbing down" their models, starting with the change from classic wheels to Whizzwheels/Speedwheels, followed by loss of jeweled headlights, loss of plastic taillights, loss of license plate stickers and - worst of all - loss of working/opening features as the casts got worn and needed replacing. This Mercedes-Benz still has opening doors and boot, but had it been released a few years earlier, I'm pretty sure it would also have featured an opening hood, revealing a chromed engine and maybe even some engine details in a separate black plastic piece. I think that maybe Corgi made their models bigger to compensate for the decreasing levels of detail and function? My first encounter with this model, was the car alone, silver with blue interior, like yours was before the restoration. This was followed by the Gift Set with the car in blue metallic (like your restored one), brown interior, and the caravan in white, with blue stripe, white roof, red/white canopy and a potted plant on the table! A decade ago I reaquired both the solo car and the gift set, the latter in mint condition in a tatty box, while the solo car is rather miserable with broken suspension (rattling around inside) and big paint chips. Your restoration is, as always, excellent and a pure joy to witness!

Hallo Paul, wieder einmal eine schöne Restauration. 3 Restaurierungsschritte hätte ich anders gemacht. Das englische Kennzeichen vom Wohnwagen passt nicht, weil der Mercedes ein Linkslenker ist. Die Markise am Wohnwagen hätte ich mit einem weiß und blau gestreiften Decal geschmückt. Die Anhängerkupplungen fertige ich immer aus den Kappen von alten Reißverschlüssen (sieht dann sehr authentisch aus). Das Spülbecken im Wohnwagen, die Zierleisten, Türgriffe und das Logo am Mercedes hätte ich verchromt. Aber trotzdem ist es eine schöne Arbeit. Ich wünsche ein schönes Wochenende.

Ich freue mich sehr über Ihren Kommentar. Ich habe darauf gewartet, dass jemand das Thema des gelben Kennzeichens anspricht, denn als ich es aufgeklebt habe, ist mir aufgefallen, dass das Mercedes-Auto für Europäer eigentlich das Lenkrad auf der rechten Seite hat und dass das ein bisschen dissonant sein wird. Tatsächlich wäre eine Verchromung des Waschbeckens eine tolle Sache, um den Innenraum des Anhängers aufzuwerten. Allerdings kann ich mir nicht wirklich vorstellen, was du mit alten Verschlusskappen meinst. Mit freundlichen Grüßen

@@PaulRestorer Hallo Paul, vielen Dank für die Nachricht. Reißverschlüsse haben am Zugmechanismus (also da, wo man den Reißverschluss zuzieht) zur Sicherung der Ziehlasche diese Kappe. Die sieht genauso aus wie die Kupplung von einem Anhänger. Es gibt sie in verschiedenen Größen (für Kleidung, Etui etc.) Oben auf der abmontierten Kappe klebe ich noch den Verschlusshebel, dann sieht es richtig ''original'' aus.

Takes me back to my childhood caravan holidays in the early 80’s, only we had a V-reg Peugeot 305! I was really hoping the Merc would be a nasty gold-beige colour to kind of match my memories! 😢

Very nice! Do you have any of the Corgi Mack trucks? I had a yellow flatbed and the white Esso tanker back in the day. It’d be cool to see you restore them.
