in this video and due to a common problem with the MAF sensor, i replace the ecu in this car without using any special equipment for coding etc...
the car was running very rough and was struggling to start from cold, gas mileage was awfull.

Very good job.I had never got in touch with those mercedes A series ecu's,but that looks like very poor engeering.New subscriber.

Hey again. Little update . I got another ecu and an eeprom programmer. I copied my firmware with the programmer and flashed it to the new ecu. Mounted everything back and it worked. Only thing is with the old ecu I had p0100 and p0110 … now I have p0170 which is also related to the mafs. I checked the mafs in the new ecu when it arrived and had good continuity values in the multimeter. It also seemed very clean. I will try to clean the blades with carb cleaner and also get adaptation reset at the mechanic and see what happens. If I keep getting the p0170 I will try to replace the sensor blades with the ones I bought months ago and put in the old ecu.

Today I replaced the blades and resetted adaptation. Still p0170 but very different lambda adaptation. It was 1.4 1.6 before now it’s 0.72 0.72 … this car is a pain in the a$$

@PSICompanyPerformance If you had a bad ECU but you found a working ECU with the same code (Sorry if this is a stupid question im very lacking in knowledge when it comes to this)can you just replace the old bad one with the new working one completly?As in just take out the old one and put in the new one without ant soldering?

I bought the one in the video from my local junk yard but because i live in a country where you can still find a few of these in the road, its not that hard to find these in the scrap.. Good luck

How did you go..I have a problem with my ecu...When the car starts to warm up it shuts off and doesn't start but when it cools down it starts again...I'll get an ecu and change the chip like you did in the video do you think it will work ..the ecu codes are not the same, they only have the 1.6 petrol engine?

thanks for watching. you will have to match the codes on the ecu for a better result, because it might not be exactly the layout inside. good luck

Got p0100 that won’t go away and melted plastic on mafs. New blades made no difference. There’s also a trim resistor soldered for IAT. Thinking of buying a working ecu and swap the chips. What temperature did you set in the hot air station? I will ask anyway price to copy my old one on the new one. Thanks

Thanks for watching I set the temp on the hot air station to around 300 degrees celsius but other temps will also work it may take longer if a lower temp is set or vice versa. Good luck.

@@chriz74 i moved the chip because the mafs are so fragile that i rather replace the chip. The solder i use 430c

@@PSICompanyPerformance Thanks for the info so far. I ordered a working ECU , what flux did you use ? On Amazon there are some chip specific flux without alogens and low in viscosity

My question would be if I have two identical ECUs. One is bad and the other is good. If I pull the chip from the bad one, will the good one work? The type number and msn ,version is the same

Unfortunately, the exchange was fruitless. Only the ventilator whirred after ignition. All the numbers were the same. Also the year of manufacture. The display shows the kilometers. But that's it.

Hello, I did this in a class 160 year 99 with a second hand ecu and the electric fan only turns on, what happened? , thank you

Thanks for watching. In mercedes cars when the fan, it means that there is no communication with the engine ecu... Make sure to double check your solder points and tge orientation of the chip(flash). Good luck

Hi..I have the same problem..only fan turns on..i cant connect my diagnostic..i check all solder points more times, chip orientation is ok , i tried 2 types of solder.. no change.. ...what can be the solution?

@@rolis618 that is very strange.. The ecu can be damaged or not compatible... It works very well for me every time.

are the chips placed in the same direction, could it be that they are not compatible? Can this be corrected by reprogramming the ecu? Or would it be better to re-solder the chips where they were originally? thank you

@@arielochoa3968 the orientation is the same just make sure the solder points are perfect and that the ecu is compatible and is in working order..

Yesterday I got a second ecu to try this . Swapped flash, same behaviour. Car starts and stops. If I rev up and down I can keep it on but it will stop the moment I stop revving. So I put back flash in the old unit and swapped mafs. Same behaviour. Had to put all old components back together. This method doesn’t work.

Thanks for watching. This car in this video got fixed this way because i have diagnose exactly what the problem was.... You may have 2 ecus with the Maf broken (very common) also you can have air leak on the intake, bad fuel injectors, bad coil pack, etc....this fix in this video is in case you are sure a) your MAF is broken b) you are sure the second has a good maf. @@PSICompanyPerformance I think the problem is when you change the mafs adaptation must be reset. Something you didn’t do and for some miracle it’s working anyway. How many car did you repair like this ?

@@chriz74 i have done a few over the years but if you leave the car running it will self adapt after a few minutes. i never had to do the adaptation of the MAF on these older cars. good luck

@@PSICompanyPerformance the car doesn’t run. It starts and stops immediately. People in forums tells adaptation must be reset. I don’t have any vacuum leak nor anything. The car works with the old faulty mafs and a trimmer resistor soldered to pin 2 and 3.

@@chriz74 with the resistor will work but if the outside temperature changes the car will struggle to run properly. like i said the adptation of the new used maf makes sense i never had to do it but i think you should try that. the next 140 or 160 that i get with that problem i wil try that too and see if it makes a diference for me. thanks for the tip. good luck

Here’s what happened. Got an ecu, swapped eeprom car starts and immediately stops. After trying some times car is dead completely. Put back eeprom in my ecu and moved the mafs from new one to old ecu. Car starts and stops immediately as with the new ecu. I tried only 2 times and then removed the ecu, put back old mafs. Car starts. What the heck!?

Somebody in a forum mentions soic8 chip . My understading from this video is there is no soic8 on the ECU to move, only 29f200 is that correct?

@@chriz74 are both ecus from the same engine? Iam just saying that because that has happened to me when i tried to put 1.6 ecu on a 1.4 engine and the engine would flood with petrol and would stall has you described...
