Mercedes-Benz C-Class DTM "D2"(1994) driven by Bernd Schneider - Two 90s Legends at Monza Racetrack!

What you see in action is the 1994 Mercedes-Benz C-Class DTM driven by Bernd Schneider, five-time Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters champion who won his first title in 1995 with the W202 model. After 22 years, on the Monza track, two DTM legends, the 1994 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti driven by Nicola Larini and this Mercedes driven by Bernd Schneider took the track again! Both champions of the DTM's golden era have covered 3 laps in parade bringing tribute to two great car brands that have written unforgettable motorsport pages. Specifically, the C-Class is equipped with a 2.499cc engine (152.5 cu in) M106 V6 90° naturally aspirated engine, not very heavy, only 110Kg thanks to the use of a lot of light alloys. Front, longitudinally mounted, it develops a power of 400hp (298 KW) at 11.500 rpm and a torque of 300 Nm (221 ft-lbs) at 9.000 rpm. The body is mainly made of carbon fiber, adopts a 6-speed sequential gearbox and traction is on the rear wheels. Reduced the weight, only 980 Kg (2160.5 lbs).

Quella che vedete in azione è la Mercedes-Benz C-Class DTM del 1994 guidata proprio da Bernd Schneider, 5 volte campione del Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters che nel 1995 con il modello W202 si è aggiudicato il suo primo titolo. Dopo 22 anni sulla pista di Monza di sono riunite due leggende del DTM, l'Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti del 1994 guidata da Nicola Larini e questa Mercedes pilotata per l'appunto da Bernd Schneider. Entrambi i campioni dell'epoca d'oro del DTM hanno percorso 3 giri in parata portanto tributo a due grandi marchi automobilistici che hanno scritto pagine indimenticabili del motorsport. Nello specifico la Classe C monta un motore V6 90° aspirato da 2.499cc (152.5 cu in) sigla M106 poco pesante, solamente 110Kg grazie all'impiego di molta lega leggera. Montato anteriormente in modo longitudinale, sviluppa una potenza di 400cv (298 KW) ad 11.500 giri/min ed una coppia di 300 Nm (221 ft lbs) a 9.000 rpm. La carrozzeria è principalmente in fibra di carbonio, adotta un cambio sequenziale a 6 marce e la trazione è alle ruote posteriori. Ridotto il peso, solamente 980 Kg (2160.5 lbs)

I had one of these cars. Mine was a C200 from 1994. I'm fond of this car. I don't know if I would have bought a kit like this, maybe if I had the C36/ C43 AMG version, but not the others. However, it remains a jewel, the most beautiful DTM of that period together with the Alfa-Romeo 155 V6 Ti/DTM 👍

What a Car, what a noise and what an era of DTM and great to see the legend that id Bernd back in the car and the Alfa didn't sound to healthy not did that rear box look fitted right.

Yes, the Alfa exhaust pipe was fixed afterwards, the other pilot on the Alfa was Larini. What a golden motorsport era the 90s!👍

@@Italiansupercarvideo Un periodo che tutt'ora rivivo con le Mods di GTR2; oltre alle stagioni DTM degli anni '90-'00 c'e un fantastico Pack con tutte e sottolineo tutte le vetture turismo degli anni '90-'00 suddivise in campionati nazionali, tra cui anche le stagioni dell'ITCC Italiano del 1993-1996! Ovviamente non può mancare il BTCC con tutte le auto che abbiamo imparato a conoscere anche grazie a quel fantastico videogame per PS1 che era TOCA Race Driver ^^

I'm not aware of any use of this engine on-road cars; I think it was developed specifically for the DTM car.

This is a good question, but I don't have the knowledge to answer you. If I'm not mistaken, these cars are now managed by Mechatronik.

@@Italiansupercarvideo it’s possible they converted m119 v8 heads, cut down and modified, on to a v6 block. Pretty impressive engine and package. Many thanks for the videos, keep em rolling. I see you get very good access?

@@bernardwarr4187 Interesting what you wrote; I hadn't thought it could come from a V8 engine. The day I filmed the entry to the track, at least up to the pits, it was pretty free.

@@Italiansupercarvideo always great film from you. My understanding is Mercedes’ did not have a 4 valve v6 in the 90’s, so must have taken the pattern from somewhere for this DTM project. Definitely a classic

@@auberge7 I had a 1994 C-Class W202 C200 petrol, and I loved that car. They were also the years in which this model ran in the DTM. You can imagine the affection and memories that bind me to this car 😉

Amo la 155 V6 Ti ITC/DTM, penso sia uno dei più bei prodotti dell'industria italiana nel motorsport negli anni 90 ed un gioiello del genere non poteva che essere Alfa e prodotta e concepita da quei geniali tecnici che formarono il reparto corse. Detto questo l'altra DTM per eccellenza era appunto la Mercedes Classe C. Massima ammirazione anche per questa vettura. Averle riviste entrambe, con Larini e Schneider alla guida è stato fantastico 👍
