Faulty Turbo caused engine to auto/over rev, a lot of blue smoke from exhaust fuel injectors damaged, cylinder 2 piston and engine bore damaged seizing engine...

You recon the chain jumped and piston hit the injector?

I think these w212 Mercs are dogs- I hate mine on all counts- sooo cheap quality. I have owned my car for 6 weeks...in those 6 weeks more issues than I had from my old 99 w202 petrol in 10 years. Today my engine felt a little rough while doing 70 mph on the motorway- AND it lost some power... so I slowed right down and pulled onto hard shoulder and turned it off straight away and got it recovered. many hours later when it had cooled down I checked a few things myself as I know a few things about cars. I checked oil level (all good- it was 3/4 on dip stick) checked header tank for oil- seems fine) and so decided to start it- it started with knocking (not huge) but it knocked...turned it off straight away- then fired it up immediately- it knocked less and on tickover is quiet..rev it (1500 rpm) and it knocks. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? OIL PUMP FAIL? INJECTOR FAIL?

I experienced the same problem and had to rebuild the engine from scratch. It was oil sucked from the turbo worn out bearing into the air hose on the discharge side of the turbo.... but this in itself should not cause the damage because the oil would burn continuously... what caused the over-revving is the accumulation of big amount of oil in the intercooler which is located lower than the engine...then when you push on the accelerator this big amount of acculated oil is drawn towards the engine causing over revving (even if you turn off the ignition the engine continues to run until all the oil is exhausted)

same thinks in w 204. c 200 cdi engine completely damaged at 475.000 klm. you think there is chance to happend by blocked DPF??

Wow that was a bad runaway, plus the higher rev limit from the remap didn't help. Is your preferred way to remove the engine, split the box and lift it out the top?

Yes defo remove the gearbox first as its rear wheel drive its very easy

Good day mercman. C200 cdi w204 can you take engine out with gearbox attached from the top? Or its advisable to leave gearbox in if u using engine jack at home. Thanx

It will be near impossible to take engine and gearbox out together using an engine jack, this might be possible if you remove the whole front of the car (bumper, panels etc) i think it will be easier of the gearbox is removed first..

@@mercmantips thanx. I dd remove everything and took out the engine with the sub frame. The other thing my power steering pump is having wierd sound, was advised o change oil but seems like it not oil because they old it its original oil. Considering new pump. Any idea?

Hi, these OM651 engines don’t really have a problem with the crankshaft much, the main problem with these engines is the timing chain...

What was the mileage??

Original mileage was 86,000 miles, but the car has been remapped, so possibly caused because of the remap and some harsh driving!

So you took the engine and the transmission together from the top ?

No gearbox out first, then engine out, just my preference

@@mercmantips the engine and the transmission with the subframe all down because it's easier .. because the engine does not rotate i don't know the reason yet

With all due respect I’d say you’re wrong, these engines are known for injector failure and I’d more than likely say cylinder 2 injector failed causing the resulting damage. Just my opinion

Well in these circumstances you can never know the exact reason why it happened, so you could be right, but in this engine there was a lot of oil in the intake pipes...
