I have owned my Mercedes EQC 400 Sport (base edition) for about three months now and I have to say that Rory has got his review super correct here. The EQC is not built for aggressive bend driving. It is built for comfort and refinement which most Mercedes ordinary drivers appreciate very much. I have driven both Audi E-tron and Jaguar I-Pace, great cars, but none can compare with the plushness and comfort of the EQC. Driving the EQC makes you feel really special compared to the rivals. I have also done over 280 miles on a single charge on road trips. You tend to increase your range as you live more and more with the car. The weight is perfect for the regeneration as I often arrive at home with the same range I left home with having driven around town for nearly 20 miles. So three months on, I am still loving it. It puts a smile on my face daily. Thanks for a great review!

Hmm. Not sure. Seems beautiful, but that infotainment system, inefficiency and price I would rather get something else. They are using the Mercedes logo to deliver something poor and rushed.

Rory is an excellent reviewer. I watched this having owned an Audi E-Tron 55 for the last 18 months and he covered everything I needed to know to decide on my next car in a years time. The weight distribution and brakes issues will mean I will stay with the E-Tron as I use it extensively off road for my hobby working my dogs so the door step is also a bad idea for me. The E-Tron wins hands down having such a low centre of gravity as well as the 5 different ground clearance levels which are invaluable for an SUV in off road conditions. Thank you Rory.

Cracking video as always!!... Would still go for the ipace. The weight issues are just none existent with the Jag because its been designed as a ground up EV, not just a rebadged gas guzzler... I can’t see the Model Y having anywhere near the build quality of either.
@ColinFox
@ColinFox 3 жыл бұрын
Really? "nowhere near". So you expect...what? Body panels all different colours? Maybe falling off? Perhaps the car bursts into flames for no reason? Come on, this incessant hacking on Tesla is beyond stupid at this point. Tesla cars are the safest on the road. Period. That wouldn't be possible if their build qualtiy was even a fraction as bad as haters make it out to be.

Model Y will be car of the year 2021 taking over where the model 3 left off . Jags mercs Audi’s and bmw also don’t sit at the top of the reliability standings and they don’t match up well against Tesla when it comes to producing BEV’s, better shut lines atm yes but performance, tech, range, rechargability, vertical integration not even close
@dzerres
@dzerres 3 жыл бұрын
@@iandavis8725 Not true. Everyone is mixing up "initial quality" surveys with "reliability". CR wasn't reporting on reliability and Tesla has no reliability issues I'm aware of. MB was part of that dieselgate scandal too. Tesla takes care of your charging concerns; all those other manufacturers just throw you to the wolves.

Great review - but I do think that MB is a company where, at least for this car, the beancounters had a bit more sway than the engineers. This platform doing double duty for ICE and an EV drivetrain saved hundreds of millions in development costs. MB will likely do a bespoke platform for EVs eventually, but we're still in a transition phase, where EVs and ICE options needs to be side by side for many companies.

Considering car manufactures (expect for Nissan) only got into the EV market around the same time the Tesla 3 was announced, it's normal for them to be behind. Tesla is already implementing auto-pilot while these guys are barely starting to comprehend how to set production plants for EV cars. At the end of the day, the EV market is still fairly small and green, and lots of manufacturer still can't justify switching. I'm sure most of them still think it will be a fad. Additionally, battery technology is the bigger price. Building an EV car isn't the problem, it's having batteries with higher charge per kg. Whoever manages to do that at competitive prices, will revolutionise the EV market.

@@MrWhiteVzla True on many points. The automakers are just getting started sure, but regardless, it's still a great thing to have competition and not be focused solely on Tesla. As for charger networks, there's Electrify amongst others that are helping build a lot more charging networks than people normally think. The main reason not many have adapted to EVs yet is because the cost of investment into BEVs (take into account the battery tech, platforms, networks, etc.) alone is worth billions. Some just don't feel ready yet.

Been driving my EQC for 8 months now. First things first: that running board that Rory so likes - I immediately barked my shins on it when we took one for a test drive. I pointed this out to the sales rep, he tried it, and agreed with me - he also would not get that feature. It looks cool, but for normal sized people it's negative rather than positive. Fortunately, you can opt out of having one. I find the driving experience more positive that the reviewer. Both my wife and I tend to drive our cars quite hard, if not squealing tyres hard, and if anything she finds the braking too harsh, I have to turn regain off because she gets 'sea sick' with it slowing the car every time I take my foot off the throttle. We certainly haven't any trouble stopping the car suddenly and securely should a traffic light turn red at the last second. NZ roads are maybe not quite as windy as some of those narrow English lanes, but understeering is not something we have encountered. Unlike the Hyundai Kona EV we sold in order to upgrade to the Merc. If there's one thing I would complain about it's actually the MBUX. It's too complex and not intuitive, and I've had to get advice how to do this, how to do that ... and still haven't managed to create a 2nd 'user profile' for the wife. Next time we get close to the dealership ...

I agree - I’ve had mine for a similar period and find the brakes completely fine and secure. There is also much less body roll than other SUVs of this size. I think the reviewer is off the mark with these assessments

EV enthusiasts, especially the tesla ones, always used to argue how they can charge at night and wake up to 100% and that they don't drive more than "x" miles a day. Then other EVs come out, the range may be a bit less, then all of the sudden it's a different story and it's not good enough. So now the argument about home charging and only driving "x" miles a day becomes irrelevant? Hypocrisy.
@bullittuk

SDav21 it’s you diesel driving EV haters that made range an issue not Tesla, they just knocked the range issue out of the park and the fact is the diesel producing manufacturers can’t match a Tesla with their EV’s
@daniel_960_
@daniel_960_ 3 жыл бұрын
Still valid arguments. Sure many can live totally fine with home charging and medium range, if so that’s a good argument to get an ev. But an EV with more range, faster charging and a better network is still a lot better. This makes an EV a viable option for the ones who for example want to travel with it.

Lol the 30% cheaper Model Y beats the EQC in range, performance, cargo space, safety, tech, charging speed, charging options. The ONLY reason to buy the EQC is you want the badge. Which is fine for some people, but just know what you are giving up to do so. The EQC is a decent effort but heavily compromised.
