There are so many choices in this segment that I can't honestly say that the GLA is the right car. There are so many new cars about to come into this market that it might be wise to hold on until we know what the competition is doing.

The gla 250 has cruise control auto windscreen wipers and lights up in dark at night , 4 diff drive modes but iv got it in automatic it’s a lovely drive,

Good to have some straight talking about a car! They really need the newer 2.0 unit to try and quieten it but its still just a jacked up, pretentious hatchback. Looking forward to the return of the Sunday service!

+EinkOLED less than 10 really. Drones are only just getting affordable and now the laws will change meaning the end is near for the affordable part.

The drone shots are great... but I'd love to know what this car is trying to be. Too shallow (low roofed) cabin to be an SUV, yet the raised ride height means that it's trying to say something.... but what?

It might be Mercedes ticking a box that they make a car in that segment. I drove the petrol version in the UK and the spec is far far better.

A Mercedes dealer put my mum and dad off one of these saying it is not a full merc (shared Nissan bits) compared to his old c class so he bought a new one of those it even has this engine and it does sound rough sometimes.

Is this essentially a Renault Kadjar with slightly different styling and a Merc badge? I'm not convinced the hook up between Renault and Mercedes is a good thing for Mercedes.

There are parts sharing for sure but exactly what those parts are isn't all that clear. I'd buy a Qashqai if I thought it was a Merc with a Nissan badge but not the other way around

The refinement, or lack thereof of that engine, is utterly shameful for a premium brand. The three cylinder diesel in a Kia I drove a while back sounded about as refined.

Maybe the petrol is better. Buyers considering a Skoda, VWs don't have mercs in their list.

This thing doesn't compete with the XC60 [the GLC does that] but with the Nissan Qashqai, or just about with the Honda CRV. It really doesn't compete very well with them. However, some people will pay extra for the badge, but truthfully that badge signifies more 'rusty delivery van' to me these days than anything.

Add a little more and you could drive brand new 3 series or Jaguar XE, yes in basic spec, but this Merc also in basic trim. A new generation maybe better but I still did not get point of small expensive SUV, less practical then compact or middle class estate.

Reliability has also allegedly been a bit off recently too according to Mark Cadogan. Bob, a good review making me scratch my head wondering what this car is for, when a Toyota or a Mazda CX can do the job better.. Heck, I'd even look at what the Koreans are doing..

Your GLA model in your country and state don’t have the same features in Australia. I have the same model, I have panoramic sunroof and every feature you can think of with power and comfort. Price for 2017 was also cheaper than your country. Your data and vehicle comparison is horrible.

Your buying a badge. And more power to them if they find fools to buy them. Same with BMW. What did Clarkson once say "if BMW could, they would charge you for the air in the cabin".

Yes, buying the badge and years of rip off servicing and maintenance costs. Mercedes & BMW for mugs and snobs!

Brian Cullen I don't think all mercs are, but its the same with BMW, you only get the real deal if your buying closer to their top tier models. They both do genuinely good luxury cars. But then you get the entry level stuff that is no better than say a Mondeo, but you'll pay a 20-50 premium. then you have stuff like in this video, that seems to be aimed at the same type of person that the entry level stuff is, but are alot older with more expendable income. Still sucked in by the badge, and will look past the premium they are paying, for a less premium experience. They would of driving a 318/320 BMWs or A/C class mercs for the last 20 years. A Ford is beneath them. Though I can guess, that the people that by this merc, won't be checking out what volvo, vw, skoda etc are offering. They will be comparing this to the equivalent BMW, and if this seems better value than say an X3 then they buy this. Totally discounting the rest of the market, as 'obviously them lesser brands will be worse'. So the only Compition for this car and merc in general is BMW, and vicevera.

God, that center console with the screen sticking out is incredibly hideous. To be fair though, it's on par with the exterior of the car.

Mercedes know what they are doing with diesels. Some of the most reliable diesel engines are large capacity low bhp. That's why the old 2.2 nissans 2.2 hondas 2.2 Mitsubishis run for a lot longer without the issues associated with smaller engines. Audi 2.0 tdi 170 bhp was a turd yet the 2.0 tdi 140 was fine. Volvo 2.4 D3 again large capacity relatively low bhp. The more they try to squeeze performance from a diesel the more problems are likely. Stick with what I call the lazy diesels, they'll outlast you when looked after properly

You´re probably right in most of the things you say. But I have to disagree when it comes to the look of the car. I think it has a beautiful design, and to me it doesn´t look weird.
