www.motorbeam.com tests all the entry-level luxury SUVs from Germany, the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 and the BMW X1.
This entry-level luxury SUV segment was started by BMW with the X1 back in 2010 and Audi quickly made the Q3, launching it in 2012. Mercedes finally entered the segment with the A-Class based GLA, launching it in 2014.
All these cars are quite different, being targeted at those who love SUVs and want a luxury car at the same time, without having to spend more money for a ML, X3 or Q5.

Had my heart set on a used GLA. It looks great in photos and videos but when I inspected one in person it just looked like a hatchback, no bigger than my Corolla.

WE have the bmw x1 sport line and it is one hell of a ride, and has a sporty interior.It might not have the best looks of the lot but it feels really good to drive especially when u engage it in sports mode, it just shoves u back into seats !! My moms loving the car at the moment and i feel its the car to buy ! i know most of guys might be like why am i telling u this , but just wanted to inform u guys thats all! :P

excellent review! love that you went over what real world drivers expect from day to day. in the states, the x1 is a bargain and most would have it finishing first! bought the sdrive28i because of its incredible mileage. paid $21,000 USD for a 2013 previously owned car last year. still has most of its warranty and saves a ton on fuel!

Good review for Indian standard , The only thing I would say is please keep in your lane while you are driving @5:00 to 5:43 you are right in the middle of the road line marking .I know that you dnt give a dam but think of your safety and other road user . Wait for Q2 it great !! it's Releasing in Nov 2016 in Europe but not sure in India . Value for money .

Let me understand you: You are test "driving" cars and testifying that the BMW is the best performing, handling, braking among the three and yet you have Audi placing first? At this price segment it is clear everyone is going to be driving their own vehicles so please don't pretend driving isn't the most important aspect of owning a vehicle. You are a journalist but not a driver. IF YOU ARE READING THIS: do not buy a car that doesn't drive as well as the other. In the end you will be regretting the steering and driving feel you left behind for less important features that quickly get dated. And if you are researching a car this person is not the person to credibly rate them. But he already told you that in his driving comparison.

John D looks like you missed out a few things. This is India, people don't give the most emphasis on driving alone because they buy this car to feel special and make a statement, the BMW X1 with its looks has the least visual impact which matters a lot to buyers. The Audi Q3 has the best space, most features and most importantly quattro, it can off-road which the X1 can't. If you want a car for driving, get a 1-Series or 3-Series, not an X1.

Your subscribers will never regret buying the best driving car/SUV/Crossover. The comparisons of size are minuscule at this price segment. These are all entry level. The looks are largely subjective and none look as good as the next level up across the car manufacturers. The most clear point you made yourself was how well BMW drives comparatively. This is not furniture. It's a driving machine where safety and enjoyment are all in the handling. In the German car segment people want to feel the road. Otherwise, buy Lexus. In terms of space or looks this is the entry level segment so you will never look as good or be as big as the next segment.

John D there is no Lexus in India. There is a reason why the Q3 is by far the best selling car in its class in India because people don't give heavy emphasis on driving. You should visit India and understand the Indian market.

Just another video where you see only three cars traveling on the road. Having the posibility to make a video with these three cars I would have preferred to see something concrete type are all 4x4? OK let's put to the test at this point once and for all so showing which system and better. Nothing challenging, I would say, a climb a piece of off road etc.

Ilie Grigoras we couldn't take all cars off-road because the Mercedes is front-wheel drive and the BMW is rear-wheel drive, there is no all-wheel drive option for them in India.

It sucks when the reviewer decides for the viewers about the good and bad looks of the cars. The choices of good and bad looks actually are related to sense of aesthetics and thus vary from different temperaments and personalities. The young kid here is deciding that how BMW looks old and so is non appealing and the Benz looks new and so is eye catchy. He can not generalise this. I prefer the elegant and classy old school looks of the cars.

Would prefer X1 anyday over the other two german rivals.Driving the Audi Q3 is like performing a surgery wearing oven gloves,(Honda city would give you a better steering feel). Merc GLA on the other hand has no punch at all.X1 beats the shit out of them when it comes to handling performance,acceleration & steerig feel.That's what a car is supposed to do. Ultimate driving machine.💪

Weak review. Based mostly on looks and a lot of unjustified bias. The comparison should be against three all-wheel drives as well. Perhaps this is a fair review in India. From a US perspective, this review does not stack up. The X1 finishing third is laughable.

Dan Sivertson only the Audi Q3 comes with all-wheel drive in India, rest don't. BMW only offers the X1 with rear-wheel drive while the GLA is offered in front-wheel drive only.

Motor Beam, were you TROLLING with us in this shootout? Audi Q3 is an Off-Roader? Seriously? It isn't even good enough to be considered a SUV with cars like Mahindra Scorpio (True Off-Roader and also the best, has MILLION titles in Off-Roading rallies), Land Rover Range Rover (Great Off-Roader with 900mm of wade depth!), Mahindra XUV 500, Tata Safari Storme but is called a great Off-Roader here! LIARS! And also, I guess for you people, thinking of winner is not hard, this formula gives you the winner without even thinking: 1. Ford always winner 2. European Cars next 3. Americans get this position 4. Japanese or Koreans have this position reserved 5.Indian Joint Ventures (like Renault/ Suzuki) will have this preference 6. Indian brands are the losers NO MATTER how good they are

Four wheel drive does not make all cars suitable for off road. BMW offers the 5 series with X drive which is their all wheel drive. No one would dream of taking a 5 series off road. In fact a true off road car will a low gear transfer case and a diff lock, something most soft roaders (as they ought to be called) do not have. My 2 pennies.

All these luxurious cars (more than 1000cc)aren't suitable for Indian roads. ..its absurd and shameful for us because you can't drive more than 60 to 80 kms per hour average speed. ...and seeing the ever and always growing population, the traffic congestion problems are heart throbbing menace on all Indian roads. ...hence I request to ban on the manufacturing of such high speed cars
