Thanks for the video. I've wondered what fails in those switches, and if they could be repaired. Now I know just to buy a new switch. Thanks!

Broken headlight switch melted the headlamp sockets on my r129. This thing is a fire hazard. Get it replaced ASAP if you feel its broken. Excellent video

Thanks for the video. This damaged plastic fixation guide can be 3d printed i think. Problem is to get drawing or make one for 3d printer.

Great video, I'm in the exact same situation. When you rotate the switch you can hear it crunch the broken plastic with the crushed fixation. After seeing this video I just ordered a new one. Not worth my time. Shout out to Jonathan's douchebag comment. So glad he cleared up the fixation and detents, It's completely obvious what you meant, but hey cool comment Jonathan 👎👎👎! I appreciate your video!

Nice part explosion (literally). After seeing how mine failed I ordered two. I installed a new one and I keep the second one in the trunk as a spare. If this switch fails and you are on a trip, you will likely be stuck without headlights. It's an easy part to install and could save you great expense and frustration if you have it with you. Same reason I travel with a spare ignition coil for my 96' S500.

I'm kind of late to the party, I know, but I wanted to share my experience with this since I have had these headlight switches fail a few times on my cars as well. There is an earlier version of the switch, which was installed in W124s up to about 1989 or 1990 (at least on European cars), it has the detents integrated within the metal part of the switch and, as a result, doesn't have this issue. I put one of these in my 1992 and never had a problem since.

great video! thanks; any idea on why the center bulb won't work? Do you think that's fixable or should I just buy a new one?

Thanks for the great explanation! I have replaced mine 5 years ago with used one and failed. Then replaced the second one month ago with used one and failed recently!. There was a brand new china made but I wonder if it durable?! I'm about to change it now and I'm confused what should I do chose? Used or aftermarket new?

What can it short for example? Could it affect how the car runs?

Good evening, what are the typical age of those Mercedes cars having light switches of similar condition?. Will Mercedes W211 be also having this problem once reaching 20 years old?. Thanks.

@vsandvs hey viktor, do I need to disconnect the battery when taking this switch out?
@vsandvs9 ай бұрын
I do without but it's preferable to disconnect the battery.

Nice video! I see this problem all the time as well. One thing though... "fixations"? Interesting word choice, but i think the word you're looking for is "detents". Detents.

Lol. Yeah, English is not my native language. Thanks for a tip. Detents. That sounds better
