No power to airmatic compressor, tested cables, replaced fuses and relay, rebuild junction fuse box in passenger floor board, and also tested valve block level actuator sensor. This was the only way i could get power to the compressor. I have also followed wiring from compressor to passenger SAM Module (fuse box) and still no current flowing through wires. Im stumped. Anything else i can check? Comments appreciated!
Update: Ended up converting to coil conversion. Customer could not maintain let alone understand an airmatic system. I probably could have ran a switch to supply power to turn on and off the compressor but i would also have needed a way to monitor the quantity/lbs/bar of air in each strut and that would have been too complicated for the owner to use lol. But this is just a video clip of what i did to test the compressor since i wasnt getting power to the connector and neither replacing fuse and relay or new compressor did not solve issue.

Great job brother...my s 500 been sagging passenger side rear only daily...well today both rear are down .and now compressor isn't engaging.... front are still up...i have my s430 model i retired for parts now...i am learning from youtube but yours got right to the point.... thanks a bunch...now if ya know how to squeeze, more horsepower from these s 500 feel free to inform us ...I've done pulled cats off and mufflers... flowMasters from axle back woke this benz up...now let's focus on suspension...

Found out today my front was dropping in mins to full bottom. Checked tire pressure, was at 21 pounds, inflated it to 35 lbs no more sagging! almost took it to the shop! whew!

My suspension is down. Relay is fine. Fuse is fine. I’ve tested the compressor which is also fine. When the car turns on the compressor does not turn on though. What could it be

@@dsingh11 airmatic control valve block. Its near compressor. It has all the air lines attached to it.

Prier to bypassing to get the compressor to run did you have power to the buttons on the dash which lifts it?

Yes. It ended up being the compressor control valve though. Ended up doing shock conversion on this car anyway

I need to know how put air manually to the shock. I try many ways but the have a. Line valve whit 3 wires and the air don t pass thru. Some help please 😢

Not sure how to do that, but if your airbags are not blown, you can replace the valve block thats located near the compressor for airmatic to fix issue.

The valve body tells the computer when to power the compressor and for how long and valve body is responsable for what shocks need air. Replace the valve body just happened to me

AHhh!!! I was wondering WTF told the computer to turn on the pump. I just jumped the relay to send power to the pump. Thanks for the recommendation Juan! Will report back sir!

Couldnt get power to run from fuse box to compressor, customer ended up converting to strutmaster coils. It was about a grand for the kit.

It work for my 2001 s430 but it still didn't air up my struts. Like him I have a new pump and block valve and relay. Is it the airmatic control module that not giving power to the 40a fuse?

myincensesmoke .com not sure exactly. I would first scan it with a benz scanner like the icarsoft i980 obd2 scanner to see what airmatic code its throwing and see if it will give you a code pointing to the module at fault. Are you not getting voltage at the compressor either?

tech manager hello, I just bought a 2004 s500, with aromatic not working. Are both plug on compressor should have power or just 1? I have power in 1 of them but not on the thick connector. Thanks

Guys, there is a fuse block located under the passenger floor board. Check all fuses there first.

In the 5.27 the wiring dagrim the green go to realy in 85 . Wher is go the anther line red with grey .. any help . Thanks all

No, relay and fuse was fine and compressor was good too. The issue was caused by airmatic valve block. Ended up converting to traditonal suspension.

I turned my car off and heard a steady stream of air coming out of the hood area and then I heard a clunking noise that was loud coming from the pump area. Is this the relay switch not telling the aromatic pump to shut off and it’s violently shaking due to insufficient air flow?

It may be the compressor or just the lines connecting to it. Check all air lines connected to it. Its common to have air leaks going into the small plastic external filter as well. Not sure about clunking noise though, thats weird.

@@Crunchykyle I never have tried. I guess it depends on if it is stuck in open or closed position. If it is stuck in on position and car is raised then I would temporarily pull the airmatic fuse.

Hello, if i connect it like this, will all my 4 struts raise up if my car is on the ground? I ask because i cant start my engine due to blown head gasket. Thanks.

If you supply power to the compressor it should raise all 4 struts yes.

I switched to regular shocks and want to disable the air pump should I pull the fuse or really or both

My S550 compressor works, it builds up a pressure, but the car won't raise. Replaced valve block, still no luck.

Check the voltage of the wiring going to the Valve Block, probably rat damage. Also check for leaks.

Would that raise the car cause i open the relay and press it and pump comes on but doesnt raise

Are you sure your air struts aren't blown? Usually the top mount of the airmatic struts in the S class seperate and leak from the top. Verify your air struts can hold air first then check the level sensors also. If those are in the wrong position it will either raise too high or drop super low. In the instance of that video, I just used power and ran it straight to the pump to verify it worked still. It ended up being the airmatic control valve that was causing it to not get power.

Anyway the question is you changed to regular struts did you have to change all four or can I just change the two up front?

What year and model? S or e class? If just the front is dropped you most likely have leaking front struts. But you should hear the compreasor making noise when its on. You would have to do all 4 if you converted it.

Is a s430 2001.. the compressor does not come on.. I put a diagnostic machine on it but the diagnostic machine doesn't really read Mercedes-Benz but it had one small area where I hit suspension and I hear a noise on the passenger side under the hood like something's trying to come on, I assume that's the compressor..

@@bevhoney-b2184 remove the compressor and try running power to it or do the bypass i show in video to verify compressor works. Most likely the top of the front air struts are leaking. You can use sealant to seal the top of the strut but if they are completely blown they will need replaced. Better to just convert the whole thing and never worry about air shocks again.

no, its just a quick way to determine if your compressor will engage letting you know theres an issue with the airmatic valve block

I would do what people in the comments suggest and check the valve body because I did not troubleshoot in this old video. The owner of the car decided an air ride suspension was not practical for them and I ended up converting to a conventional shock and spring setup.

I had the same problem and it was just a loose connector on the back of the valve block. You must press the connector in VERY firmly.

It ended up being the airmatic control valve that was causing a break in the circuit to power the compressor. On that car we ended up eliminating the airmatic and converting to traditional shocks and springs.

I never figured out what it was, this video was to show how I ran power to compressor to verify it wasnt bad and was from another unknown issue. I ended up removing all airmatic system and doing coilover conversion on this car.

all you have to do is take a jumper wire pull out the relay go to terminal 87 and 30 on relay push relay back in socket or leave it out compressor will start if it is a good compressor ., your way is not a by pass.

Well regardless if it was an actual bypass or not, the airmatic system is junk on all Mercedes Benz vehicles. Resolved with a traditional shock and strut setup. It's no wonder why they stopped using hydraulic and air ride setups in their suspensions.

If you have ever ran an add-a-fuse , this is basically doing same thing but the ghetto way lol without a fuse and just running wires from the compressor connector straight to power in fuse box. (At the time I just attached wires to an existing fuse to supply power). Sorry for shit quality vid and explanation haha

So airmatic relay is good but no power to airmatic fuse? Have you checked to make sure the wires to electrical connectors for compressor arent broken. Its common those wires get cut or broken. I never had the time to do more troubleshooting in the video. I just ran power to the compressor to verify it wasnt a compressor issue. I would check the airmatic control valve also to see if it has power to its connectors.

Hello all, I've just purchased a w220 320 CDI with the same issue, compressor not working, so I did the quick fix to check and it worked straight away, the problem no power to the 40 amp fuse. So I assume the fuse box has to come out to see why no power , does any one know how the fuse box comes out or any reference to a video for it. Thank you all Regards H

I believe it ended up being the control valve that's right above the compressor that was issue. We ended up converting to the regular shocks eliminating airmatic. I thought I showed the bypass with the wires connected to the fuse in passenger side fuse box?

I ran wire from one 40a fuse to the other so it would have power to that circuit. In the beginning of video I show it briefly.

a used Mercedes Benz is a money pit. If you are not prepared to spent a lot of money on repairs on a used Mercedes don't buy it!

It wasnt that bad actually. Spent about 1k to fix. Converted suspension to strutmaster coils instead. This customer could not afford to maintain an airmatic system. As far as money pit, ive personally seen and worked on more chevys that were money pits than any mercedes owner ive ever dealt with. Honestly u gotta pay to play regardless of make and model.

A decent used merc is less of a money pit than most used fords, I buy at 3-4 years old and sell at 9-10 and am on my 3rd successive E class estate and all have ended up with well over 250,000 miles with little more than servicing and normal wearing items. Conversely used Fords seem to need a lot more maintenance and replacement DMF, Turbo and other expensive stuff plus bearings, bushes etc. galore. I know which one I'll be getting next.

@@davidjohnson1778 , I agree with you . I love chevys and basically all I've ever owned (including corvettes ) . I then have owned many Mercedes and I'll own a Mercedes over a chevrolet any day. Maintenance costs may be higher on the Mercedes (but i do most maintenance myself). The Mercedes gets better performance and better engine durability.

Absurd. It is a lot of money spent if you go to the Mercedes dealership each time. - I have my W 220 now for 4 years and expenses are SMALL. Many things I simply do myself. Used eBay parts are cheap, and I mount them myself. Replaced the wiper motor, which was $30.-. But I see a lot of people who tell me how expansive maintance is. And they wonder that I still drive my W220....

Check the airmatic control valve first located above the airmatic compressor.

Man!!!!, I went outside and jump it just like you did and that got me to now when now air is not getting to the struts. I tend to go under and be sure the pump is blowing I’m currently trying to see if I can find how to test the air block. Don’t mean to be long winded but I’m so excited with jumping it off and it working THANKS 🙏 TO YOU “a life saver” I was asking due to having to jump it do you think replacing that SAM module would solve having to jump it

@@pebobryson4681 yea if air isn't getting to all of the air struts and you jumped it to verify the compressor works, then it is definately the airmatic valve block above the compressor. It distributes air to each strut

One more thing, everything on this system was working fine except when it was below freezing it would be on the ground in the morning but would be fine once it warms up in 10 min or less I had a problem with the battery had to replace it and the motor when it fell to the ground and I’m where I am now 🤷🏾‍♂️but again SUPER thanks my man

@@pebobryson4681 no need to replace the sam module. If you have an icarsoft i980 scanner or something similar to scan benz with, you should be able to see if there is either an open circuit or the module being "implausable" aka bad.
