I have a 2005 SLK55, a 2006 BMW Z4M, and a 2009 Boxster S with PDK. My favourite is the SLK. Hard to argue with the V8.

What are your thoughts on the Z4M? I really have been wanting to get one in convertible form. I have only driven the 3.0i model but the manual steering rack and S54 engine are super appealing to me. The IMS issue with the 2nd gen Boxseter is what is really keeping me away and the Z4M seems like a hidden gem that is still affordable.

@@katanamast279 Exactly. The IMS issue put me off he 986, ergo the 2009 Boxster. Was looking for a Boxster, found he Z4M. The Z4M is a riot. Difficult to be smooth at first because the throttle response is immediate. Once you get used to it he car is like a big Miata. take a test drive, you won't be disappointed.

I’m trying to decide between a 09+ 987 Boxster S and a facelifted R171 SLK55, how would you compare the ownership experience of the two? Looking for a weekend streetcar, not a full on sports car by any means.

@@jakebarnes9018 I have a 2006 SLK55 with some slight aesthetic mods as well as performance mods. All black plastic has been painted iridium silver to match the car. Carbon fiber hood painted to match. Custom drilled blaque diamond wheels. SL55 antennae swap. Bilstein coil overs, a tune and straight pipes back after the primary cats(secondary at deletes) I live in Laguna Beach and I frequent some ritzy hotels as hangout spots both in LA and OC. The car consistently gets parked out front of wherever I’m at if I use the valet. I doubt you’re getting that from a boxster with any amount of mods. It’s also very very quick. It’s more fun to race super cars you know you’ll lose to than anything else because it’s never by more than a couple cars from 60-120. Slk55 is a fricken gem and a ridiculous beast. IMO the 2006 with the 6 pot calipers is the one to get. Those are the same calipers from the slk55 and clk63 black series cars. Only the 05/06 standard slk55 has them. After that it went to 4 pot.

Both drivers should drive both cars otherwise there is no comparing of one against the other.

The Vario roof on my 55 squeaks a lot. But that V8 torque the Boxster can’t touch

Budget convertibles tested with the roof up. Rear drives are all pushed down the road. Physics.

Porsche cab omg against Mercedes hardtop, please the proportions are so ugly. Drive them with the top down, what the sense of testing a cab.

Well, I'd say that if you're recording a video of a convertible I'd imagine the wind/road noise would be a bit distracting so I'd have thought it prudent to do this. Alternative being a drive with the top down, then recording a voice over review :). I personally like them both but for slightly different reasons. Much as I love the Porsche 911 (I drive a Cayenne), I'm not a convertible kind of chap with two exceptions - hard top convertibles like the MB or the Porsche Targa. I'm somewhat inundated with Porsche cabriolet 911s when searching for my 996/997 options (and yes, I know Justin has an opinion on the IMS bearing replacement, but I would absolutely get it replaced or only consider vehicles that have had it done).

All cabiolet cars are great cars when they have a manual transmission. All automatic transmissions are an insult for that kind of cars. Period!

There’s a thing called… preference. And another thing… practicality. Most people are looking for these as daily’s (weekend car people don’t really care about reliability as much because it’s their 2nd or 3rd car). Just saying. Manuals are cool but not practical in todays world unless you stay in a flat area that doesn’t have congested traffic.

FFS different regions/countries pronounce things differently. RELAX. Japanese say 'Matsuda" not MAZZZZZDA like you And you don't see Japan all over you for it. CHEERIO GUVNAHHHHHHHHHHHH
