Hi Guys and Gals,
In this video I had a couple from all the way down in Croydon fetch their beloved Mercedes Sprinter up to us for a Full Raptor in Gunmetal Grey and Black.
I think you'll all agree that the finished result looks awesome and the colour is definitely one of my favourites.
Definitely a head turner now and not just a plain old white camper anymore.

Hi Shane, love your work! I've done quite a few paint jobs on cars here in the states. (Being a bit older than you) I notice you aren't wearing ear protection when you run your grinder! Brilalint video love the finish. May I ask what psi did you spray this at? I’m looking for exactly that finish. Like a grip tape smooth finish. All videos I’ve seen using the shalts type gun seem to be quite rough and not sure about using a gravity spray gun and thinning so much for it. So yeah wondering how you get the soft texture. And did you use plastic primer the plasticsLook forward to your reply 🙌🏽

Thanks, glad you like the video 👍 Raptor was thinned 10 percent and sprayed at around 60-70 psi through the vari shutz gun No need to use pp on the plastics just scotch them up with 180 grit and it will adhere fine👍

Can you get wide angle nozzles for the shuzt guns? My thinking is that it would help limit the spray strokes being visible when it’s dry?

As far as I'm aware they don't do a wide nozzle, you have to dust the final few coats to eliminate the striping. You can use a hvlp gun with a wider nozzle but the texture isn't the same.

Hi Dave, I have used various products in the past but currently use bilt&hammer deox gel, it's a bugger to remove the residue normally but I've found that nuetrarust rust remover actually works best so it kinda gets a double treatment 👍

Hi Shane, keep up the good work. Watching this video i have a question, can you provide details of what metal filler you use and how you use it/how you sand it out etc? Even in an upcoming video if you go into details about filler i’d find it very useful. Also when it comes to getting rid of rust and bringing it back to bare metal, is it a grade of sanding or are you using an angle grinder right down to expose metal without cutting through for example? Thanks keep up the good work

Hi mate, believe it or not I actually had a segment in this video where I showed you what filler I use and how to mix it but the bloody camera was at the wrong angle and you couldn't see it lol. All you could see was me waffling on lol. I'll drop it in to another video👍 I grind as much of the rust out as possible with a grinding disc before treating it but sometimes use a wire brush cup on the grinder too if it's deeper. Cheers 👍

Hi Steve, cheers for the sub 👍 the Raptor can go from kind of a smooth fine texture to coarse. All depends on how you mix,/apply it. Cheers

Thanks Simon, in regards to durability I'd say raptor as wraps usually only last around 5 year. Also with a wrap it's doubtful they'd remove any dents and blemishes too, cheers 👍

Yeah I'm always in the neighborhood...I wish lol. I'd say 3 or 4 bottle's for the plastics etc depending on what texture you want 👍

There is a couple of different ones in the vlogs already and I've got a few different ones lined up for the beginning of next year bud. Most people do seem to be bringing crafter's though, They're a popular van it seems lol.

Thanks 👍 It doesn't have a Ral code. If you get in touch with Marlow paints on eBay they'll sort you out. You could ask them for the same shade they sent me as it should be on their files👍

That's not one of my vans bud, that belongs to a site maintenance company, the lime green is reflective stickers, would look cool in raptor though lol.

Great video. I would love to ask you a few questions. Is the raptor really that forgiving with applying with breaks between areas and just a single coat ? Also with that poor lighting in the shed such a good job. 👍

Thanks, glad you're enjoying them 😊 Raptor isn't as forgiving as people think, if the bodywork is shite underneath it will show. In regards to layers I generally give a couple of heavy coats and then anywhere up to half a dozen flash coats. I tend to just film the first coat, would be an epic movie if I filmed them all lol Have recently upgraded my lights, much brighter now 👌

Hi bud, my favourite treatment these days is deox gel, great stuff and really eats in.

How many days is a customer without the van so you can complete your work?

I usually work on a 2-3 week turnaround but it can vary depending on how much damage I find.

You're welcome bud, wasn't a typo, a lwb crafter takes around 24 bottles. I usually buy the kit off Marlow which comes with the tint and activator and 3 five litre tins and then a 4 bottle kit of black for the plastics. Around £700 just on paint then materials on top...not cheap lol.

Hi, for a van this size it's usually around 21-24 bottles. I generally buy the 5l tins though, easier to tint a batch 👍

It's a textured finish like a gritty kinda sandpaper is best way to describe it. You can however adjust the texture and make it a bit smoother or coarser , thanks.

Hi mate, the colour is gunmetal grey, it doesn't have a Ral code. It's similar to anthracite grey but a bit bluer. If you speak to Marlow paint on eBay just ask for the gunmetal grey they supplied to me, the colour shade will be on their database 👍

Think it's down to personal preference bud, personally I'd go for a Citroen relay, galvanized so no rust and they're 6'2" wide so you can lie width ways in them if you're not over 6ft 👍
