Note: this Video was uploaded on November 13th, 2021 but didn’t go live until the afternoon of November 14 because it took KZfaq 16 hours to upload and then several hours to process because of the length and Quality of being 4K.
In this video we will be covering the exact root cause of the phenomenon of increasing idle rpm when reaching operating temperature.
This video primarily covers the M 116 & 117 engines 3.8L, 4.2L, 5.0L and 5.6L but is also applicable to M 120 6.0L V12 engines and basically which operates by the suction principle ( Saugermotoren ).
We examine the relationship between timing chain and camshaft offset errors and how they produce additional vacuum with rise in engine temperature and the different options available to correct the issue with simple methods to a full engine rebuilt and how to determine when what repair method is good enough.

I just wanted to thank you for all your videos ,I worked as a factory tech in ny,In the 70-80 i along with the German techs.on problem cars.I forgot a lot on the Ke system,I own a 1987 560sl that I purchased it in original condition with 71;000 miles.always doing something on it thanks again Doug

Hi, question instead of adjusting a used ebay ICV why did you not buy a new one? Also, I have a 92 500sl and having a cold start problem. The car is hard starting. If I crank it for 4 seconds and turn off the ignition and then restart in starts right up. If I just continue to crank it till it starts it takes 15-20 seconds and then barley starts. in both cases it has a rough idle till it reaches temp. Once it reaches temp idle smooths out more or less and the idle will flux between 650-850 and back to 650 when the ac kicks in it will drop back to 650 is this a sign of a faulty ICV? I was thinking of replacing with a new one and rubber too. I also need that tubing do you take paypal or check I have never used a cashapp how does that work

I have 1986 560SEC. I watched all your videos relating to idle speed control. Is the control signal that is going to the speed idle control coming from the ECU? You indicated in your videos that it takes about 1.4 amps to close it. When closed, does this lower the idle speed then?

Which control signal are you referring too? My guess would be the rpm signal which Mercedes / Bosch calls the TDC signal. This signal originates from the ignition control module and goes to the fuel pump relay, a/c compressor relay, idle speed control unit, ECU and ACC And, yes, the more closed the idle speed control valve is, the lower the idle rpm. The idle speed control unit drives this valve with a pulse width modulation controlling the current. However, the control unit can source only approximately 1.1 Amps this is why the spring may have to be readjusted

@@inovahightechltd thanks for the summary. Is the 1.1amps coming from the ECU? If so, then at which circumstances does the ECU send the 1.1 Amps to the idle control? My car idles at 1000rpm and there is no change in RPM speed if I disconnect the plug from the idle control, hence, I’m assuming that the AC was not sending the signal, or a faulty wire connection?

@alansgarage8545 no, the ecu has nothing to do with idle speed The idle speed control unit controls the idle speed

The idle speed control unit and idle speed control valve are two different parts. The idle speed control unit is a black box with pins on the bottom, same size as fuel pump relay and sits in the passenger footwell under the dash
