here is the rest of the license plate backup camera install PART 2
from routing the cable from the front foot well... continuing on from part 1 where we left off after i dropped the signal cable behind the stereo unit and dropped it at the passenger foot well whee the center trim meets the carpet....
in this video i show you how to route the cable from the front passenger foot well all the way to the rear boot area next to the fuse panel in the trunk
how to remove all necessary parts to run the cable safely and securely all the way to the rear SAM fuse panel
i also show you how to modify the camera housing in order to fit the camera into the license plate light slot... depending on the type of camera you have and how it is made , you may not need to do so...i show you my way of tackling the issue where the cable was in the way of fitment
due to the length of the video i decided to break it all up into 3 parts
so in the next video i will show how to wire your backup camera to your reverse light so that
you can prolong the life of your camera
have it only running once you engage reverse gear
rather then using a 12v switched power source, which would have your camera running as soon as you switch your ignition on....
which would in turn degrade the life of your camera
hence why its important to wire it to your reverse light
i will show how to use 3 methods of wiring to eliminate the chance of introducing inconsistent video, noise/fuzzy lines and or error messages on you instrument cluster due to wiring it to your reverse light...
due to the nature of European cars especially Mercedes with their SAM units Signal Acquisition Module...all signals sensors and electronics go through the SAM and if it detects anything that is inconsistent from amp to voltage drops to sensor changes and etc....it will send an error message and display a fault.... basically any electrical fault can be detected by the SAM module...
hence why you should never splice or cut factory wires.... unless done right it will introduce issues with inconsistent electrical readings.... which is why when tapping into your reverse light you will need to use either one of these methods to wire it correctly...eliminating errors....
these methods are
using a rectifier
using a capacitor
or a relay
any of these methods will suffice and work
being the safest and best way to wire it
all this will be shown in part 3
so be sure to tune in for the final part of this reverse/backup camera INSTALL

be sure to watch the next video when i show you how to connect the power to the reverse light using a rectifier a capacitor or a relay so that you can eliminate the possibility of noise/fuzzy lines jumping screen or inconsistent connection, which can be introduced due to connecting it to your reverse light ....becuz Mercedes have a SAM unit that detects signals/voltage drops and fluctuations in electrical connections and when it sensors something is different or unstable it sends an error msg to your instrument cluster dash, which imay cause the noise/fuzzy lines or inconsistent video signal...so using a rectifier, a relay or a capacitor will solve that issue..all this will be shown in the next video

Great video but i've encountered one problem...iv installed the camera in the same position as you have in your tutorial, but iv found that the camera actually blocks the light coming from behind it (from the licence plate bulb) and fails to illuminate the left half of my licence plate sufficiently. Is there anything I could do to prevent this, as failing to have my number plate sufficiently lit while driving is a driving offence here in the UK.. plz help!

ok so i know exactly what u mean.. if u want more light need to get different camera... becuz yes it does block license plate light i suggest either boot handle or use like oem fits in square gap next to license plate light

if ur ocd then get the trunk handle one its abit more centred and wont make ur lucense plate lights look off and funny or yhe other only suggestion id recommend would be the cameras that sit in the spare slot on rither side of your trunk liner

I did this same camera set up, Can you please tell me or if you have a part number for the rear license plate led bulb that fits inside the rear camera slot? as the stock one I have is one whole solid light/bulb plug in piece

hey bud... welcome and thanks for supporting my channel... so are you looking for the camera that fits in the license plate light or in the spare slot next to it .... most pf these livense plate led bulbs/cameras are like that....hence why i wanted a boot handle camera instead as its more centred as well ....

so i just check on ebay and did a quick search for mercedes w204 oem reverse camera ...and i could see they sell a few different types of cameras.... there are ones without the led bulb and jist thr camera which could fit in the spare slot next to your led license plate light... amd of course there is trunk handle aswell...there is also oem style camera which fit in the same spare slot next to license light

as I know there are two types of screens in w204. Mine is one does not pop up outside.. I feel it doesn't support camera . Does it?

i think it does..u need to look at the back and see if there is a green fakra connection ... usually it does support it

yes but just also remember that itwill mean tht your camera will run as soon as u switch on ur ignition

MIKEYZ VLOGZ thanks. Looks like the setup I got has the 12v coming out of the wiring harness, so I just connected it and that works. Don’t know if the camera is always on or not, but working now. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.

ok so i did a video on bling adding bling to w204, and in that video i show how to remove the rear strip panel and access the rear camera area , the boot handle is just as easy to install, you have 2 screws to remove from inside the boot area after removing all the lining , and then u can remove the boot handle there is also a plug /. wire connector , then u can remove the handle and install the one with the camera, pretty straight forward..but im here to give the best advice i can without being there physically , so can only do so much .. hope it helps and good luck with the installment

no never had to it's not really a common fault with these cars ...however I do believe if you ever needed to change it you would.need to have it reprogrammed to sync with your esl ... removing the eis is pretty straight forward ....why do you ask

pr do you mean the esl ?? do you mean the ESL electronic steering lock? EIS is the part your key goes in and the ESL is th e device that locks and unlocks your steering wheel when you input and remove the key from the eis ignition switch .... if your referring to the esl yes I have replaced the motor in the esl before I did a video on it if you look through my channel and also I show how to remove the EIS as well in part 2 of that 2 part video.... feel free to check it out.... if you could.be more specific in your questioning I could answer you more thoroughly dear friend .... always here to help fellow subscribers .... hope you can show your support and subscribe to the channel and hit that notifications bell

When I put my key in the ignition it will not start nor will the instrument cluster lights come on. I have to keep on playing with it inserting back an forth for it to work l. Just started yesterday.

@@TheStillfly656 definitely seems like your having the most common issue my friend...which is the ESL I did a video on that just have a look through my videos tou willnfind a video.... hopefully it can be of some use to tou and possibly encourage you to DIY saving you $1000 or more ... have a look and see how you feel... many ppl have had success using the video however I will state attention to detail is crucial...hope you fix the problem...wish u all the best mate

that red cable is for car models either a reverse canera trigger switch ..meaning wen u enter reverse it knows to trigger the camera to turn on.. similar to the remote switch of an amplifier... its mainly used for aftermarket gear units ... but for w204 there's a setting you can choose to trigger the camera once u enter R

I've bought a camera that looks identical to yours. When I removed the licence plate light, I discovered it was a sealed unit with a LED bulb that cannot be used to illuminate the licence plate-camera. So I need a bulb of some kind of socket that will fit in the camera housing. Do you know the specification for this? The sites where where you buy the cameras say nothing about this problem. They just assume you plug in the old licence plate bulb, which I can't.

Im not sure i understand what u mean.... so your license plate camera doesnt have a bulbs socket to install the facctory light bulb for your license plate ? Is thay what u mean? It was designed to house the t10 bulb

hey mikey, i broke my AUX port whilst installing an android screen. Do you know where i can find the cable kit and where it plugs into ? The part number is 039 545 32 28. Is the connector under the scuff plate on the left hand side like the W203s? Thanks for showing how to remove the side panelling will give it a try.
