Mark Farner is a great musician and person. Still married to the same lady for almost 50 years and still doing shows.

The look on your faces !!! Pure enjoyment. One of the most underrated bands ever. You’re right there was something in the water in the 70s .

I lived down the road from where these guys got going. Grand Funk, Bob Seger, Motown what a time to grow up in Michigan.

I am 74, I have seen GFR a few times, Rock Festival Roadie, worked at 4 festivals. GFR never failed to have a stunning show. Their sound went through you, driving you backward.

GFR is one of my favorite American bands, the ultimate party band. Creativity in the 70's was totally amazing, some of the best generations musically.

The music of the 70's was so good because it was a rebirth of ideas written to music by many amazing musicians. A rebellion of the status quo in turbulant times. This also includes music of the late 60's.

Grand Funk Railroad was one of the top 70s bands. So many hits. I put them up there with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zepplin, and the Allman Brothers for their hard rock, many songs, and enduring popularity.

My older brother took me to see these guys in April of 1971 in concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit, just before I left for Vietnam.. a good memory during a trying time..

These guys sold out Shea Stadium in New York City faster than the Beatles and Led Zeppelin….and they opened up for Led Zeppelin and were so good that Led Zeppelin unplugged their stuff in the middle of their set.

Their Grand Funk live album in 1970 is still one of my fav live album's ever. This song was on it and done even better, imo.

At a friend's house watching football, after the game (and a few beers) we put the' 'Grand Funk Live ' album on the turntable. Loud. Wife comes downstairs. "You don't turn that down, I'm leaving!" She came back eventually. When I listen to Grand Funk, so do the neighbors.

Mark Farner is a wicked frontman that will give you 200% on a normal night ✌️🙂 The 70's was the best.... I lived about an hour from Boston, Massachusetts and every other week one of the greatest rock groups would be rolling in, saw many of the greats it was fantastic, one of the most remembered were these guys. The Rock Gods lined up for us during that era the best rock bands in history were all around during time, and it will never be equaled.... but now, with these videos, everyone can look back and see what we were lucky enough to be part of, and if one of our favorite bands was in the area, well, it was only an hour away from history 🙂🎸

Excellent song choice. I was in a band a few years ago, and we played a mix of country, blues, rock, r&b covers etc. We would usually end the show with this song. Folks loved it. A lot of people have never heard this song, and some that have, had forgotten about it. We also would occasionally play another GFR song called "The Railroad". Y'all should check it out. You will enjoy it.

The were just that good...and original for several years just a three man band with an incredible sound. Mark Farner is one of the most talented musicians to ever walk onto a stage...

The addition of the keyboard to the group at this point really adds another layer of depth to their sound that sets it apart from everything they had done before. At this point, they were bigger in the US than The Beatles.

This is my favorite song and version from GFR. You have to remember that Mark is both the lead and rhythm guitarist.

Mark ,, singer, wrote it when he was 15 years old.

They were the ultimate stripped down power trio at the time. Just raw, unvarnished, bluesy rock, without any gimmicky ornamentation. After those first few albums they opted for more radio friendly, "pop" arrangments. But always super tight and musically expressive.

Love the truthful reaction! I saw them 3 times in the early 70's. The 1st 3 albums were fantastic!

Mark Farner WAS and still DOES ROCK n ROLL..!! He wrote, sang and played better than almost anyone, and remains one of the most under-rated artists of all-time.! Grand Funk Railroad was the #1 LIVE Arena Band of their time and maybe ever..!! It's a shame Don & Mel will not forgive him for being the guy who got the money... BUT, he was GFR, and the 3 were incredible, and had a super run, their best friend & Mgr, Terry Knight,, fucked them over badly. All 3 still play and at 75 Mark can still sing & play well.... but they tour separately. 'Grand Fraud RR' and 'Mark Farner's American Band'. We hope for a reunion before it's too late....

Every now and then, a performer and/or band will give you goose bumps that only last for a few seconds. Whether it's a certain note or group of notes or a certain fading vibe, it goes right to your soul and that is when you know it's something special. There are only a handful of musicians that can do that and then it's gone.

Now that's why they sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles, like 2-3 weeks faster. They were the only 2 bands to sell out that venue! Mel, on bass always said it was really weird whenever Mark took his shirt off... all the women in the audience started removing their shirts too!

There’s a popular story about GRF and Led Zeppelin, touring together in Detroit, Michigan. LZ’s manager did not want GFR opening for them because he was afraid that GFR would be more popular (that night anyway) 😆….

Great reaction !! Love you guys and how much you are enjoying GFRR !! In their day, they ROCKED !! GFR Always gave it 110% and Left their hearts on the stage. Mark wrote "Heartbreaker" when he was 16 yo. They had a RABID Fan base. When they opened a show for someone, they always "Up-Staged" the main act, even Led Zep (Half the crowd left when Led Zep came on.)!! Led Zep never let them open for them ever again !! When they opened for Rod Stewart and the Faces, the crowd Boo'ed Rod Stewart off the stage !! When promoters finally realized just how popular they were, GFR became the "Main Act". GFR became known as the originators of "Stadium Rock". They filled stadiums across the USA and Europe and sold out Shea Stadium in New York, in 72-hours !! The Beatles took 3-weeks to sell-out Shea !! I saw them twice in 1971 and they were AWESOME !! That year, at Pirates World in Dania, Fl. the Promoters sold 15,000 tickets for a outdoor venue, that only held 10,000 and the people who couldn't get in rioted and over-turned 3 City of Miami police cars !! If their manager (a friend) hadn't taken every penny and all their rights, even the guitars and Amps !! He left them NOTHING, or they would have been the biggest Band EVER !! Their leader and front man Mark Farner is still rock'in today, after decades of legal battles to finally, get the "rights" back enough to play GFR songs again !! GFR is the best thing to ever come out of Flint, Michigan (except maybe the GM Buick). There is NO GFR without Mark Farner !! WAKE UP R&R Hall of Fame !! It is criminal GFR is not in the HOF !!

I happen to see them perform live in concert back in the mid 70's and they were more than I expected. As time had gone by there was tension brewing behind the scenes. They had disagreements on which way the band was heading. They had unpaid tax problems, they had bad management problems and other personal issues. Eventually, they tricked the lead singer and frontman Mark Farner into signing (unwittingly) his rights over to the band. How can such a great band just disintegrate and implode? Fans have been begging for YEARS for them to make a comeback. Right now they sound like a cover band. The grand flunk railjob!

i have a theory on the 70,80 music of course its just speculation but all of the bands GFR Zeppelin Clapton all of them were Delta Blues based bands, today and the last 20 years not one of them are.We also had real drugs back in the day

This video captures them at their prime in a prime environment , A Stadium. They are a stadium band. the last video inside looking out, they were in a TV station and the engineers tried to stunt their sound because they were pegging the meters on the studio equipment. Hence the poor sound quality on that. This is where they belong ,set loose in a big venue
