The carbon is only 20 % of the problem the other 80% is the ash that you can't see inside.Yes you will get a result but it will only last until you put back that 20% carbon because the chemical you bought only dissolves carbon not ash.To dissolve the real problem the ash,you need 25% hcl to 75% water,stop off the narrow pipe and keep filling and emptying the dpf every 30 minutes.The colour of the water when flushing will be dark pink (ash) .Flush out until clear. Now you have cleaned the main problem.

Wouldn't the HCL affect the metal housing of the DPF?
@Pohmell188 ай бұрын
@@AM-dn4lk It's dilluted and theres one guy who did experiments with DPF materials. It slowly dissolved ash but did not react to metals. Obviously it's a 2 step process. remove carbon deposits and then remove ash. 99% Commercial chemical cleaners just remove the carbon and not the ash itself so pretty pointless considering he took the filter out and went through all that trouble not knowing he didn't actually clean it. Yeah, this video is not about cleaning the DPF but just removing carbon. You could see at the end how bad the flow through the filter still was.
@cjc11037 ай бұрын
There's some more videos by a guy who experimented with all kinds of chemicals. I'll cut to the chase: Remove DPF from vehicle, soak in a plastic tub (obviously wear gloves, safety glasses, protective clothing) (1) Precleaner commerical drain cleaner (sodium hydroxide) - removes soot, (2) Pool acid (muriatic/hydrochloric acid 32%) diluted 4:1 with water - removes ash. Soak for a couple of hours in each solution then rinse. Gets all the ash out. Pressure cleaning may help rinse but use low pressure or you'll damage the ceramic substrate. 4:1 diluted pool acid won't damage the stainless steel DPF case. Then reinstall and do a forced regeneneration.
@markanthony2845 ай бұрын
Yep ...totally true, if you don't tackle the Ash problem it will only last a very short time, all those so called " DPFCleaners in a bottle" are a short term fix only, you NEED to dissolve the ash for a totally clean virtually as new DPF ....Fact.@@Pohmell18

Had one of these 204s with DPF issue. Dealer said it needed a new one! Friend took it to me and I put it on Star. There is a way of forcing DPF regeneration in the car which requires Star and driving the car to a certain temp + over a certain speed for 20 mins or something like that can recall details just now. It worked - Car regenerated it's DPF same day on a test drive and didnt bat an eyelid after.

I'm on my 12th year with the same diesel equiped Ram and have never had any work done on the DPF. It goes weeks between highway trips and have never even seen the DPF regen light come on. The truck is supposed to regen about as often as the range of one tank of fuel. Apparently some owners of the 6.7L Cummins have had particulate filters get full to the point where the truck won't regen (not sure how they get to this point). The solution posted on line is to drive the truck in a gear that has the engine over 2,000 rpm and after a time the truck will start to show the DPF filter level go from 100% to 90% to 80% to 70% at which point the regen will start. There are also reports that extended use of the exhaust brake can make the DPF filter level drop.

Hello there, I am hoping to get some advice before purchase. Vehicle in question 2014 GLK250 w/ OM651 2.1 liter I inspected the vehicle and test drove it today with some findings from my OBD2, it appears there may be some DTCs my scanner is unable to read because it gave a message indicating something along those lines. Detectable codes are as follows: p2201 Nox Sensor circuit range/performance Bank1 P2033 EGT Sensor circuit high bank 1 sensor 2 P2084 EGT Sensor circuit range/performance bank 1 sensor 2 P2201 code repeated Check engine light on and constant. Drive-ability was good, nothing abnormal noted. Tailpipes appeared to have some sort of white corrosion/powdering on them? This is my first experience with a MB diesel since w123 300TD, so quite a bit is new to me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.The only repairs I could find in service records were for an ECM reprogram, a key replacement, and a non-descript "wiring repair." Only recall outstanding on carfax was Takata passenger airbag.

Such problems only occur when driving short distances. My Mercedes regenerates its DPF after exactly 1000 km and everything is fine. The vehicle now has almost 300,000 km with the first DPF and I know people who are still traveling over 800,000 km with the first DPF. The problem is the people who buy the wrong car. Diesel is for people who drive long distances. Active DPf regeneration can only begin after 10 km. Then another 20-30 km are necessary to complete the regeneration. if someone constantly drives less than 10 km, they definitely have the wrong car. The DPF is full again after a few weeks.

GREAT video! My USA model 2009 GL320 is burning oil like a quart every 500-700 miles. DPF code on, and power loss. Hope it can be removed like you did. What if the guts were knocked out of it to unclog it and you put it back on? Will the diesel still run? Less restriction probably a wonderful thing.
@rich74472 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the Mercedes diesels, but the Cummins, Powerstrokes and Duramax run great with the DPF core removed. You have to trick a couple of sensors or add a tuner to avoid a check engine light. I unplugged my EGR valve in the closed position and have a check engine light that is on all the time. Since I'm used to ignoring the TPMS warning lights it doesn't really bother me.

@rich74472 жыл бұрын
I would be concerned about an engine that is only guaranteed to get good performance for 60,000 miles/100,000km. My current engine really wasn't broken in until around that mileage. No need to clean the EGR, just unplug the valve so it can never open. Pumping soot back into your engine is a bad idea to start with. If you want to keep your turbocharger at peak performance cool it down properly. Engine shutdown delay systems make this pretty easy (vehicle runs until turbo temps drop to a level that won't cook the oil).

@quepaso5683984 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. You'll destroy the CAT. I work at a dealer and don't recommend this method of cleaning. If your issue is due to short driving which prevents the system from doing a self regeneration, regeneration can be done manually with the scan tool. If you want to attempt this cleaning method, check to see if between your CAT and DPF there is room for an exhaust clamp. If so cut the pipe. Also check with your dealer for warranty coverage first. Exhaust components often have warranty extensions.

Hello, I noticed that you were doing all of your cleaning in the same direction as the exhaust flow. I would have guessed you would want to be doing all the cleaning and rinsing in the opposite direction of the exhaust flow, to effectively be BACKFLUSHING the filter - am I missing something or do you think it makes no difference? I'm getting ready to do this on my TDI and never done it before, but logic would say to backflush rather than forward flush...?
@mercmantips4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct it will be more effective if you do it the opposite direction of exhaust flow, but on this case the opposite direction of the DPF has a long exhaust pipe which is curved, so the jet wash wouldn’t be as effective opposite way, thats why i done it this way because i can get in really well with the jet wash..
