Mercs Arcade conversions compared from Amstarad CPC through to the Commodore Amiga. OGDuffy looks at the Capcom arcade original game of Mercs and then gives his verdict on the best home conversions.
Firstly we take a look at the Capcom arcade original game of Mercs, which was the official follow up to Capcom's classic shooter em up Commando.
Following this visit to the arcade classic we then delve into the home console versions of the day namely the Sega Megadrive / Genesis rolled by the Sega Master System.
Then onto the 16 Bit computer conversions featuring the Atari ST and the Commodore Amiga.
And finally, the usual suspects known as the classic 8 bit computer systems from the day featuring the classic Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and the Amstrad CPC.

Great video. It was reallly heartbreaking the sorta home conversions we had to settle for back in the day on our Commodore 64s… AND they would put Amiga screenshots on the box as well. Absolutely criminal.

This was a fun watch seeing all various versions of the basically the same game. I didn’t play any versions of this particular game but spotted your bubble bobble arcade machine which brought back many memories on my first ever computer the C64. Many consoles followed after that when our parents had enough to purchase for Christmas’s etc.

Glad it fetched some memories back !!! When I do these VS videos they usually spring memories from our youth 😉 I started out on a ZX81 then Speccy before a C64… As you say was all down to money back then as we never seemed to have much😎🍺

Ya Mercs is awesome, i found it out in the wild at a CEX I go to infrequently. Had no idea what the game was about, but once home I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be very fun to play.

Mercs on the Mega Drive is a fantastic conversion even if it doesn't have the 3 players the original mode makes up for it.

Had the Sega Mega Drive version. Awesome game! Think there was an Arcade mode & Story mode option but I may be wrong. Those were the days 👾🎮😊

awesome video OGDuffy. That was a great fun game at the arcade especially in 2 player mode with a mate. I never did get to play any of the home versions.

On a rare occasion i never had a Streets of Rage game in my megadrive Mercs was one of my go to games as a kid for the system, glad it was the better conversion of the arcade port as well!

I have only played the Amiga and the Sega Mega Drive versions. I like both but the Mega Drive version is the better one. A great action arcade game that still holds up.

Mercs for the Sega Genesis! Even though it was heavily cutback...man did I love it. I got it when it first released and I still love it today. Duffy, you have got to play Shock Troopers on the Neo Geo MVS. The second game was decent as well but nowhere near as good as the first.

Mercs is one of those old Capcom gems that still holds up today. I first bought the Amiga version back in the day, but it's terrible compared to the Arcade and Mega Drive.

When wonderboy was beside ghost and goblins in the arcade,I would of went to wonderboy,10p didnt last too long on g and g for me.i don't remember mercs. Commando had a fun start where you wave bye to the helicopter

MD version was the first game I played on that system. It was OK - played the amiga version at the time (cracked with a cheat) and it was acceptable!

Oh great games but the one for me was cannon fodder which was more fun. Mercs reminded me of cannon fodder but with real looking soldies haha if you know what I mean the best bit on cannon fodder was they all had names and went up boot hill if you know what I mean. I could see myself playing those 2 games would be fun night 😊 but as stated cannon fodder was the best

At last .been way too long . Once u see the name of shame tiertex u know the home conversions not gonna be great . The amiga version did at least have smoothish scrolling Megadrive version was very enjoyable and i owned it back in the day
