That's right - I am trying to merge digital and analog. Best of both worlds. For the past 15+ years as a graphic designer I have been trying to level up my digital photography gear until I peaked buying a Sony Alpha 1, the most sophisticated hybrid mirrorless camera on the planet. But then I found out I like to shoot medium format film cameras that don't even have batteries, like the Hasselblad 500CM. However, liking it does not necessarily mean that I am good at it. So I invite you to watch me fail and hopefully succeed after all!

‚Accomplished‘…, ‚teach‘…, ‚route‘… ,professional‘… - I don’t know if there are such things. But I am here to share the journey. I have learned none of the things I do in a traditional way. I am approaching things by just doing it and failing A LOT! Let’s do this together so yall can learn from my mistakes!

@@nicarnold I don’t think that there is one route for everyone. But you explain your way and a lot of beginning creatives look for examples and inspirations. I mean I see so many people doing video while their work just don’t match the success they pretend to have acquired over the years but your ref. and your inner thinking definitely justifie the legitimacy of being admired upon.

As an A1 owner my journey has been similar (I've owned the 500CM) BUT if you want the next level challenge go Large Format Film. It's where it's at! Riddled with challenges that after 1 year I am still facing but I love it.

Great first video. Subscribed. I used to use an older Hasselblad (1000F), and I loved the experience for all the reasons you talked about. You could try doing your own developing, you can get some very interesting effects using outdated film and using different temperatures and developing times. If used enough you will grow into the Hasselblad. Seeing properly exposed 6x6 slides on a light box is a delight.

@@nicarnold yes and compared to those easy automatic handling cameras from sony etc, the hasselblad will always be a camera that is hard to handle because it just requieres time to set focus and set the frame etc. and of course there are other moudular cameras like the 500cm but in terms of optics its always something special about it, especially with the wide angled lenses.

Yeah I mean then again at what point do you consider yourself a professional? Is it when you’re making money with a profession? In that case I probably am a pro camera user. But I am completely self taught like many of us and it feels weird to call myself a pro with no education in photography whatsoever. It’s the beauty of our generation to have access to all of these tools and basically just experiment with it. Glad to have you here!

I'm 70-year-old man and been shooting from the age of 15 with film. A person is not worthy of a Hasselblad until you master film, just my opion. Jump forward now, Starting with a Lumix G9 when it came out. If people would start with the roots of photography and not use fake photography your good hits in film will be around 98 percent. Hi, just found your channel and (excellent) videos. I also have just got my first Hasselblad (500c) and like yourself am hoping to get a more 'hands-on' experience of photography. Having shot mostly digital and 'assisted' 35mm cameras for street photography I am looking to 'slow down' and take a more relaxed, leisurely approach to photography, ok admittedly with more frustration and a lower success rate than with digital, but hey-ho maybe enjoy being more involved with the process. Really enjoyed your channel and humour and have not unsurpringly subscribed. Looking forward to following you on your journery. (yuk! I hate the word journey) bw gordon

Subscribed! Been there and I went back to film after working with REDs and all sorts of other high end gear. Still shoot digital occasionally, but film is a lot of fun. To go along with your time playing with acrylics and chemicals you might want to check out “souping” film. It’s where you throw other chemicals into the developing chemistry or pre soak the film in chemicals before processing. Just be sure to do this yourself and do not send a souped film to a lab. It can mess up other people’s orders.
