Masha Allah it is amazing the way your parents brought you up. I can also proudly say that I didn’t give in to the pressure of this society and my parents and clearly refused to take any dowry with me and I make it clear to my would be husband too that don’t expect anything like that cz I have always detested this dowry system.. even though I had to hear comments now and then from in laws but I m proud that I did it that way and Alhamdulilah I have two daughters now and I hope I can bring them up with integrity and faith in themselves rather than being ok with being treated as a commodity.

You probably don’t know in Baloch culture nobody gives jahez and I feel so proud to tell this to my non baloch friends and they get quite surprised. Even the whole cost of the wedding is paid by the groom’s side which includes food, mithai and cakes which is distributed to all the guests during wedding, brides wedding dresses, clothes, gold jewellery and some other things. But still most of the bride’s mother and family member gifts her dresses and some gold, not in all cases though.

Sent us to convent of jesus and mary murree. Me and my twin have a Bachelors degree in Dentistry from Fatima Jinnah Dental College and our younger sister who is a year younger went to Baqai and did her MBBS. All 3 of us are married and settled. Unfortunately on the second day of my shaadi one of my sister in law came and said (aap ke yehan jahez denay ka riwaaj nahi hai) I was so disgusted ... I am now settled in the UK practicing dentistry but i often get to hear julmas like (aap apnay jehaz mein layee theen) Sick people ...
