@Twin Reverbs Are Loud I was in Iraq in 09. I don't know if its all true what you say, but I am proud of what I did over there. I do know for a fact that those people for the most part glad we had freed them. Unfortunately, they had been under a dictator that controlled every aspect of their lives for so long, they are not able to do for themselves. Hence, ISIS filled the void. What is funny, the democratic party is wanting to do the exact same thing to the American people that saddam did to his.

California ain’t what it used to be at all
@unclemayhem6696 Жыл бұрын
@@thelonehussar6101 That’s not true. California still has plenty of great, fun and safe places. Yes, the politicians and criminals have become more corrupt in recent years and people vote way too far left for my taste, but in spite of that it’s overall a relaxed, good place. You have to be aware of and avoid the bad areas. There always have been unsafe areas. Try not to buy Into all the modern hype and sensationalism of the media. You don’t hear about the countless good things from those people but the few bad situations and places. Sensationalism draws viewers.

He was wayyyy too conservative for modern California. The South would proudly claim him though I'm sure.
@unclemayhem669611 ай бұрын
@@Jonandbrianshow He lived in California until he died which was only seven years ago. Most people who don’t reside in California don’t realize just how conservative many Californians are. Also, in spite of some of his songs Merle was a little more liberal than most people are aware of.

+Rich Dudley Thank you for your kind reply, and (I know it's decades overdue) a very cordial Welcome Home. A bit about me: US Army Reserve, enlisted, tours in Iraq and Afghanistan (as far as my youth... I'm 44 years old:-) ). I first heard this song after I returned... and loved it.
@richdudley74288 жыл бұрын
KonradAdenauerJr When you are 68, you too will consider 44 young :) Thank you for the welcome home. I have striven these many years to make sure people respected military personnel, even if they disagreed with the military action being waged. I was an AF PJ who served 3 tours in Vietnam between '67 and '72 when I was medically retired. I came home to a country full of people that spit on me, pelted me with rotten vegetables and screamed vile obscenities at me. And I couldn't kill any of them! I have a ribbon rack in a shadow box with a tomato seed stuck smack dab in the middle of my Silver Star, almost like an attachment.
@KonradAdenauerJr8 жыл бұрын
+Rich Dudley That's an interesting place for a tomato seed to land in. When I was in college in the early 1990s, I had this professor who had been opposed to the Vietnam War during her own college years, and who conceded that the antiwar protesters had made a huge mistake by treating returning vets the way you've described. When returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, I never experienced such a mean "reception."

Im sure alot of people are its a song about blind national pride theres alot of that going around right now. Men fought and died for this country as men fought and died for Nazi Germany as men fought and died for Imperial Japan. Are unrealized ideals don't change the fact that were a sick society that lets children die without health care that lets veterans go homeless that lets our American Companies and Farms to hire illegal workers legally and profit from cheap labor whilst treating the workers as criminals we are a hypocritical society these ideals of freedom, liberty, justice are nothing more than that untill we truly realize them. Theres obviously worse places to live of course but in America we all taught from an eary age to believe in these absolutes that we are a free and just society. Ultimately this becomes the biggest obstacle towards actaully achieving that society as drones of fools view change as a digression from are already "perfect society" you hear it from right wing media all day how all will be lost if they lose power they sell optimism not practicality they sell those ideals those absolutes ingrained in us that we already live in a fair and just society and they use that to make us fear positive change. Now im not saying the left is only seeking positive change either though, pc and cancel culture and the censorship of art music, and especially comedy is sickening to me it weakens the ability for art to truly reflect culture which its has for all of time. The tribalism as a whole is destroying us we cannot communicate . Countless brillant minds from Socrates to Carl Jung emphasize that only the power of the individual can truly save humanity. People need to throw away there seals and deviate from the norm so we can begin trying to live by our conscience. I personally cannot and I think most of us are just too lazy to. We would rather be the bloodsuckers of the world knowing when we stuff our face others are starving not just around the world but our neighbors too. Its a hard reality to face and truthfully alot of people just don't care and they just hide behind patroitism. There the people who don't really believe in freedom, liberty, and justice they believe that things as they are benefit them and thats good enough for them to wave there flags around and say "Ill kick your fuckin ass if you talk bad about America" there patriotism lies in there need for security and there fear of change. All Im saying really is boy do us humans have a long way to go huh?

This song could've been written today, and it would be just as applicable. Many of these liberals are constantly complaining about what an awful place this country is. If they can't handle living in the greatest nation the world has ever seen because of a problem they've made up, then they are more than welcome to go live in one of these horrific communist countries that they are always so busy praising. God bless America, and those with the courage to defend it.

I think rings true of all the things America stands for.Like no more prayer in schools.on more pledging to the flag that others have fought to keep this country FREE--and if you want to burn our American Flag--forget it--go try that in another country and see where it gets you--Like Merle says IF YOU DONT LIKE IT LEAVE IT and I say don't let the door hit you in the BUTT when you leave.SO SCRAM.

Glenda Easley Well, I hate to be that guy on KZfaq, but ehhhh, flag burning is protected free speech, and organized prayer in public schools is showing preference to either a particular religion or religion over none in general. Matter of fact, most Western countries protect flag burning. I believe it's a Nordic country that actually protects the right for people to burn their own flag in protest, but has a law against burning the flags of other countries. Seems fair to me! After all, it's the stifling of free speech that brought us here to America.

For today's country music that is still traditional, I've recently discovered Sturgill Simpson, listening to it now. It's an interesting mix of classic country and rock, thanks to youtube autoplaying on me, I'm enjoying 'you can have the crown/some days', 'long white line', 'it ain't all flowers', 'living the dream', 'life of sin'. and if you like the women in country, the current Kacie Musgraves and Ashley Monroe are easy on the eyes and doing unique but still traditional country.
