Eddy Merle Watson was born on February 8, 1949 in Deep Gap, North Carolina. He was named after Eddy Arnold and Merle Travis, his father’s favorite singers. His mother was Rosa Lee Carlton, daughter of fiddler Gaither W. Carlton. Merle spent his career as a two time Grammy Award winning guitarist with his father, legendary bluegrass flat-picking guitarist and 2011 Inductee Doc Watson.
