Death is not something this society likes to dwell on. More often than not, it is just swept under the carpet and socially best forgotten. However, the Tibetan Buddhist masters are all about what happens when we die, and have answers for question we have, but don't dare voice.
This audio-blogs looks at what happens after death, describes the various kinds of bardo states, and goes on to describe how we can best prepare for this journey that we all will take.

This video needs more views and more people need to read the Tibetan book of the dead. Death doesn’t have to be completely unknown we can develop a relative understanding of what happens when we die if we take the time to do the proper research and practices

The mind is a scary place we don't understand the unconscious. We are a mystery to our own self. It's very odd being a conscious unconscious entity. All very disturbing to say the least!

And even lucid dreaming, you may become aware you are in a dream but you must ask yourself why am I still in a dream? If you are aware that ur in a dream and the dream is suppose to be of your own creation then where are you.It`s almost like maybe although ur aware somehow u must be unaware of this reality ur creating.It`s just very strange

So nicely said. I thought a lot more about the Bardo after seeing the movie "Jacob's Ladder." The script by Bruce Joel Rubin was beautiful. On a personal level I sometimes think about the 9-day induced coma I experienced years ago. Did I actually come right up to the threshold of Chikhai bardo?

I find it fascinating to contrast Dzochen (Tibetan) Buddhist teaching,as well as Plato's,with the Near Death Experience stories. The NDE community may be as close as we can get to 1st hand experience. It seems that they challenge everyone's preconceptions,and they compel me to rethink my own. A few strike me as simple delirium,but the profound impact of most seem to point to much more than just oxygen deprivation. Science and Medicine finally are taking a serious look at what they mean.

Michael Erlewine, in this video at 14:04 is saying: "Seeing the true nature of the mind ... ". The mind, the mind, the mind -- but why only in preparation for death? Is that not apathy creating or depressive? How about learning all about the mind for the purpose of vastly improving one's ability to live well and very successfully, or to learn how to help much better and more effortlessly, this world needs all the help it can get. I know a book that's 491 pages long and it teaches about "Is there mind or is it just a wild rumour?", "What is mind -- er, if it really exists, 'cos I've never seen one. Why, have you?", "Does everyone have a mind, 'cos I don't see much evidence of this?", "What is the mind?" "Where is the mind?", "Is the mind the same thing as a brain?", "Is there just one mind or are there more minds to a person?", "Can I learn how to improve my mind or minds?" "Is it possible to see the mind?" "What can other people do to my mind, that I don't know about?", "Can I repair my mind, say, from hypnotism or drugs?" "Can I improve myself or my whole self by improving my mind and learning how to operate it better?" -- yes! yes! and yes! Ask me directly (and you can check out my other posts below to see if I know anything). Reply this or any of my posts and ask me.

In return for your kindness, Micheal, please permit me to provide for you the following (please note: I am a student of Lord Metteyya Buddha, the most recent re-birth of Lord Buddha, though most Know or have heard of the individual, the mortal, that he once was, who had the name Gautama Siddhartha. Okay, that's my background. And sorry, I won't expand on "Metteyya" here. [Okay, Part 1] 1. "Enlightenment" is best explained or described in the manner of the first person who achieved that state and then went and taught others about. I will save the sanities and self-blame of many when I tell you that Lord Gautama Buddha, having become the first to both achieve "enlightenment" and then going on and teaching others about, well, near the end of the physical workability of his body, so, when Lord Buddha saw that he would have to "drop that body" as it was, er ... used up (for lack of a better term), he confessed to Ananda and some few others that he had failed in his intention and mission to bring to be a vast number of other human individuals who had also achieved enlightenment. He said it was a "failure" of his. He also said that he had offered too much of a promise -- that if one learned and carried out his (Lord Buddha's teachings), that one would achieve "enlightenment". Pardon me, I do realize I've not yet provided a (succinct) definition (and perhaps an "action definition", as Lord Buddha says to do, as this is the most natural and easiest to understand type of definition: most people give a "descriptive definition" which leaves the one learning that definition (descriptive definition) having to also solve this: "How then does this actually work?" Which is the "action definition" of a word or concept. The mind finds "action" or "actions" easier to understand than "descriptions". Pardon me for the light detour, for straying. I'm only hoping to provide as Metteyya provided for me -- over more texts, words, diagrams, gestures and the like). Lord Metteyya Buddha said, the reason that he, as Gautama Buddha told Lord Ananda and some others that he had failed was to make clear that the full promise implicit in his intention and teachings, that anyone and all humanity can and should strive for and achieve "enlightenment" by following his teachings and instructions (and by observing (Lord Buddha's) admonitions) -- is that it is and was his one betrayal of others. Since any one who heard his words, any who put the effort into then achieving enlightenment, did not always achieve enlightenment. In fact, as Lord Metteya Buddha stated: Most, and of course, there were, and have been, very, very many who grasped, this, Man's first chance and Man's first provenly workable reply to Man's greatest hope: that hope of becoming free from never-ending suffering and other undesired and undesirable afflictions. Lord Metteyya Buddha said that he had failed by betraying this vast number of those who took him up on his word; he had tried his very best (as Lord Gautama Buddha) to create an ever increasing, and continually successfully, enlightened number of individuals. But, over many years working to achieve this result, he (as Lord Gautama Buddha) had made the ("awful" -- this is my own additive to the sense of the HIS words, as he related this to Ananda and some others, as I feel for Lord Buddha) discovery that he was only able "to make a handful of actual Enlightened Beings" out of all who had come to him or who were under the supervision of his advanced (monks. And please know that Lord Gautama Buddha had both male and female monks as his staff). Lord Gautama Buddha then explained his discovery. I cannot relate HIS discovery, it is ... sorry! It was a most astounding discovery! He discovered THE EXACT AND FACTUAL REASON WHY (what? 99% or more of his other students/"followers" failed to make it and become "enlightened". He, as Lord Gautama Buddha, made the discovery very late in "his life" as Gautama. Too late to begin and produce a workable solution; the problem or obstacle discovered was so unexpected and so massive in scale. So Lord Gautama Buddha made Ananda and the others present, a promise, he said he would not rest until he found out just how this (humongous -- my words again!) this "problem", the "obstacle" could be being created and maintained, and how to undo it so all others (the 99%) who had been unable due to this "obstacle" to realize enlightenment, would then be able to definitely do what Lord (Metteyya) Buddha would then have produced as the "advanced" teachings and instructions which would include the handling for the previous (insidious -- my word again, but very accurate!) obstacle which had not been known before, which Gautama in his process of achieving enlightenment, had not himself suffered from ! The clue that Lord Gautama Buddha realized was ... Oh! I mustn't say! It's too advanced; it requires some self-experience of the new teachings otherwise it is rather shocking so will be handled by others, even the willing, as unreal or unconfrontable. Due to the length of time it would take to investigate and track down; to then observe and study; to learn and understand; to the find or produce a workable answer/solution which would work for all the various types of individuals that make up Man ... Well, Lord Gautama Buddha told Ananda that he would have to leave and go wherever his quest took him. And for as long as it took to get all this done. You may get a very true sense of the scale of the problem/obstacle Lord Buddha sought to address and resolve when i tell you that he told Ananda that he would have it figured out by And, this he did. He, Lord Gautama Buddha told to Ananda his "prophecy" of what was to happen; what was to come and, why it had to be done that way. And it is an astounding thing/prophecy. It, Buddha Gautama's prophecy, explained what was to come and how he would return to finish the job (or providing Man, all men, with the knowledge and tools to finally achieve all that he had promised and more!) Ananda asked Lord Gautama Buddha, "How shall we know him?" Buddha replied, "The Buddha that will come after me will be known as Metteyya ... ." In addition there exist Tibetan Buddhist scriptures which are very specific: "When he shall be seen in the West, seated in the Western fashion, his hair like flames about his noble head, discoursing, then shall the inhabitants of the Three Worlds rejoice, knowing that the emancipation of all sentient beings is imminent. Then it shall be called the age of the blessed because it will become commonplace to achieve emancipation in one lifetime." There was more to Buddha's prophecy, such as what would the state of the world be at the time, and why. Plus why he would appear in the Western world rather than his beloved Eastern world, in which he had spent so many lives. Now, all this and I've not yet explained "enlightenment". But, I feel one may understand as to why I did not just throw at a definition. But rather, that I've now provided many unknown facts which one should find then make understanding what enlightenment is, more complete and satisfying, in a natural way. So, on to the explanation of "enlightenment" as achieved by Gautama Siddhartha and a handful of others before the appearance of Metteya Buddha in very recent times.

[Part 2] Okay, "enlightenment": Gautama Siddhartha, accompanied by the ever-faithful Ananda, he just decided that as he had finished looking into all the existing different schools, practices, existing wisdom and knowledge of the time in Asia; as he had found it all to be insufficient and in many cases not really workable, he had decided that he was going to make one last all out attempt to break through the (barrier? barriers?) which he had found had defeated all the top yogis, gurus, swamis and more. And which he himself, so far, had not broken through, either. As they had just come to a river, which river due to seasonal rainfall, was swollen and rushing along with water -- Ananda looked at Gautama's thin, starved body and said, Lord I am filled with concern. And Gautama -- still furiously working on achieving enlightenment, even in that situation, distracted, asked Ananda what the problem might be, that gave him concerned. And Ananda admitted that he feared for his Lord's well-being, as Gautama had not had a proper meal for quite some days, his body was thin and lacking full physical strength. And, Ananda added, the river is high and has a strong current which (Ananda) said would likely sweep Gautama Lord to his death. At this Gautama paused and considered, looking at his faithful friend and companion, Ananda, Gautama said, Okay then, take my arm and see me across this water. At first Ananda baulked, and when asked why by Gautama, Ananda said he was still fearful for his Lord's safety. Couldn't they wait until the river subsided or find a safer crossing place. Gautama was so determined to understand why and what the difficulties were or whatever barriers were there which had prevented all others from achieving enlightenment that he could not tolerate the thought of waiting. So he commanded Ananda to help him cross that river, saying he was certain they would make it. He said he had to reach the other side so they could get to a tree he could see for him to then be able to sit there and continue with his (mental) work resolving a means to achieve enlightenment. Ananda assented, and taking hold of Gautama by one arm then proceeded to struggle with him across the flowing force of that river. They arrived to the other side, clambered out of the waters and Gautama immediately set off for the tree he saw which he was to sit under. Upon arriving at this tree, Gautama sat down and looked up at Ananda saying, I am now going to commit (everything that I have left) to find a way to breakthrough and resolve how to achieve enlightenment. And please Ananda, do not for any reason, no matter how long I take, whether it is a day, two, three or more days, do not interrupt me even to offer me food or drink. Thus spoke Gautama, utterly committed to achieving that which no other had achieved and which he himself had so far also been unable to achieve - "enlightenment". And he ordered Ananda not to let anyone at all approach or intrude or interrupt him. To tell them that he, Gautama Siddhartha was now completely committed to achieving enlightenment, right there, under that exact tree, with no further intrusions or food or water -- because Gautama saw that he had to do it now, himself, and not accept any sop or distraction. Ananda was beside himself with concern, he knew that what Gautama was also saying was that he, Gautama had now so committed himself that he would not broke any easing or break from his all in effort, that Gautama Siddhartha was saying he would not rise up to his feet ever again unless he broke through and found out how to achieve enlightenment and to do it, himself right then and there. That is, Gautama was saying he would either succeed or die in the attempt, but he would not permit any more distractions to this task and whichever end it would have. Ananda was forced to watch over Gautama as Gautama put himself through the process whereby he focused what remained of his life force and intellect and intention to the task. If I recall correctly, one day went past, then another, Ananda becoming more and more severely distressed at the signs and his own conclusion that he was watching his master die. Another day went by, Gautama never rising, never taking any notice of those that approached to chatter or to make offerings such as food or water to this become well known sage. Never taking notice even of whether Ananda was still there or not. On through morning, day, evening, night, and on into the next day, never relenting, never eating, never drinking. Finally, days later, Gautama suddenly stirred, focused on his faithful Ananda, and told him the remarkable news -- he had done it. He had resolved what was preventing himself from achieving enlightenment, and, he had then proceeded to do the actions required to then factually achieve enlightenment. And when he could, now Buddha Gautama, he told Ananda what he had done to achieve enlightenment. Gautama Buddha told Ananda that he had analysed and looked through much information then it struck him that he could not remember certain portions of certain "past-lives" of his of many thousands of years previous. Gautama had then attacked this problem: Why could he not recall just odd sections of a number of past lives of his from mere thousands of years before this life (as Gautama)? So day after day, Gautama had sat there, intellectually attacking this mystery until he succeeded and discovered the reason. Now, having the reason, he sought the solution, all without interrupting himself or stopping to inform Ananda. Then having found the solution or solutions, Gautama, again without stopping for a break, immediately began to "process" himself to break through the barriers he had discovered using the techniques he had developed to effect this. After some time, Gautama opened his eyes and declared to Ananda that he had done it. He, Gautama, had achieved the regain of all his living experiences, meaning complete recall of his past lives, which gave to Gautama a fabulously huge wealth of experiential knowledge and learned data. With which he was now resolving and answering many, many mysteries, unknowns, and complexities which previously had been impossible of resolution. With this, Gautama was now a Buddha, an individual who had achieved the state of "enlightenment". And with this write up, for all you good people, you will now be able to understand what "enlightenment" is. And no, there is no half-way house to enlightenment. It is all. Everything. The final thing that many do not understand or are confused about or, may not even realize is this: Gautama Buddha, once enlightened gave this goal as the most important goal: the state of "bodhi" (the Tibetan buddhists apparently call this, ... No, I am not a Tibetan Buddhist. And to my knowledge, I never have been. I've never studied there scriptures, never attended any of their schools, seminars nor any Dalai Lama "visit". So you know. I learn directly from Metteyya Buddha, in real time. Such miracles should not surprise considering who my teacher is! They called "bodhi" "Bhodicitta", apparently. In any case, Lord Metteyya Buddha says the word "bhodi" most closely means a "Clear" in English. A being who no longer has his own Reactive mind. He is a "Clear". It is worth emphasizing, when he achieved enlightenment, and went on to create only a handful of other enlightened individuals/beings, Gautama Buddha did not know there was a state to call a "bhodi". He only discovered that this state "bhodi" needed to be achieved, to ensure that (regular) human beings could then easily and definitely achieve full enlightenment. Thing is, it took Gautama Buddha another 2,538 years (or thereabouts) for him to finally breakthrough and produce the full discovery of what a "bhodi" is and how to achieve this with any human being -- even the psychotic human beings! Then, they could go on and achieve what had clearly been proven to be impossible -- only a handful out of, what? millions? who had striven for decades doing everything which Buddha had provided for them to do, in their honest, full-blooded attempt to also achieve enlightenment, the state of a "buddha", and they had all failed except for just a handful ?! Wow! The state of "bhodi" then, while discovered out of severely disappointing and very extreme experience to be the crucial formerly not known stepping stone or step towards the state of "buddha", was itself proven to be a highly valuable and truly remarkable state. And today, it is now available to all! Which means that Lord Buddha's promises are all now available and achievable, and all in one "lifetime".

In the video from 07:56, Mr Erlewine states what he says is the understanding or the position of the (Tibetan Buddhist), in his words - namely "According to the Buddhist teaching, we are now, and have always been since the beginning of time in a state of profound ignorance." And he states that "many religions say kind of the same thing that ignorance is the cause of this or that." "Ignorance is therefore an important term to understand." "Buddhists don't subscribe to the idea that we once were enlightened but have somehow now fallen. That's Platonic; Plato said that. That we originally knew but now we've forgotten, fallen out of a pristine state and have to get back there. The Buddhist view is that we have forever been ignorant and 'ignorance' here means literally, to be ignoring; in ignorance, ignore, to be ignoring the truth, ignoring what is true. Ignorance is not some state of unconsciousness or stupidity but an active ignoring of the true nature of the mind. Well, I am very happy to report to you all that the above has all been resolved. Consider just one proposition of just a small part of the new discovery: What is the actual happening was: We, every one of us, was once all knowing. That is, we each one came into existence being aware of everything; knowing everything. And then, to have a "game", to have "interest", to have "fun" and "sensation" -- we by decision, gave up a very great deal of the "allness of knowing" with which we were originally endowed? A major part of "game" or "play" then was "to find out in order to ... I don't know, say -- win the widget or win the girl, or something?" How about that? How does it fit? Plato then would seem to be the real deal with his assertion. The Buddhist (Tibetan) seems to have degraded from what Gautama Buddha said, by the way. It would seem hardly a Tibetan Buddhist has actually achieve true and full enlightenment. For why? For 'cos one would not make such a gross error when knowing, from enlightenment, that one knew all at the START. But that one gave away or "put away" his ability to know-instantly, anything, anywhere - now, in the past, in the future (since "time" is a contrivance, to have "memory" and "future" and "present time" -- see?) but all knowing of all right then. What's the fun or game or interest in that status? Huh?! Now consider this second proposition -- both developed out of the new discoveries (of Lord Metteyya Buddha, by the way). Consider this handed-down version of Plato's (on this subject of "ignorance"), consider that there may be unknown factors or factors which have not been but should have been considered right in there along with "forgotten" and "fallen out of a pristine state" and "have to get back (in) there". Consider this not known before; not related before factor: "Game". What if some smart-ass or wicked-ass all of sudden gets the bright idea of causing other guys which he sees out there, other guys who come and interfere with his "game" or "his stuff". And he eventually gets annoyed sufficient to put his thinking into high gear as to what to do with those "troublesome" or "pain in the kneck" other guys? Guess what, he comes up with a really banger of an idea and goes about "selling" to the "troublesome", "bothersome", "disrespectful of (him) and of (his stuff)" guys the idea that it would be fun to do this. They think its a great idea (to do "this", whatever it might be ... hear me out ... ) and they go to it like the blazes. After a while he gets back to them and shows them "the fine print; the small print", and yes, you have you first "contract" -- see where this is going? Now, why would anyone ever keep to a contract, or accept that a contract exists? Ought to listen to a Contract Lawyer one day -- wonder when I time that particular trade began?! So this "proven to be a contract -- you guys signed up to" contract, now you've got to observe these here finer details instead of enjoying yourselves heedlessly all the time. Time for some "pain". And its all off to the race or down the drain depending on personal viewpoint. Likewise, the "bad memories" concerning "contractual obligations" start to kick in, as does resentment against the cunning contract device. All sorts of other new action now starts as do secondary or entirely new additional "contracts", "agreements" as to what should be, what can't be ... and the rest of it. [Please continue to Part 2]

To say we have forever been ignorant or ignoring makes no sense since that would mean we have forever had some form of consciousness. It makes more sense that universes are born and organisms evolve within these universes. However in the in between state when one awakens they realize the universal mind where information can be shared between beings using light as the medium.

I have read the Tibetan book of the dead or the Bardo even though it is cryptic in its use of strange deities maybe culture related due to karmic thoughts on ones belief and understanding of the afterlife to be a dream like world of illusion so I conclude every night when I go to sleep and enter this Bardo like pre death experience called dreaming or pre-death experience of the after life even though in my dream state I am not aware of my body or at times even aware of me dreaming if you were aware that you are dreaming it is generally called lucid dreaming hey wait a min I am dreaming and no longer the participant in this play or actor for I now have become the observer and self aware that I am dreaming. I did a lot of lucid dreaming in my younger years and could become aware most of the time that I was dreaming. In the so called waking dream or this illusory reality I am also aware that I am dreaming a form of enlightenment to a degree. Since reading about the Tibetan belief about the Bardo I have come to realize myself that dreaming when I sleep is another manifestation of the Bardo we would experience at death since even though we have not completely separated from the body like death at night when you sleep your body is motionless and appears dead to those watching you sleep with the eerie feeling as they watching you sleep they are also aware that no ones is home and the body is sleeping in a death like state but in the dream state the body slows down all activity is really slow heartbeat is slow as well as breathing usually the ears are still active and in some case you can still hear stuff like music but your bodies ability to move is disabled. Well this is what I believe when I go to bed and start dreaming so no I do not have any fear of death I am 57 just got to figure out how to escape the lunatic asylum without any attachments or desire to be or not to be since that is where our suffering begins since it eventually ends in failure. I am in no way more spiritual then anybody else when I say this since I have my demons to conquer that are of my own making karmic wise in this reactionary illusory Universe of ours. I made the above comments without really going through your video but after hearing you say that our waking state and dream state is actually acknowledged as a form of a bardo state that is new to me since I read or understood the Tibetan teaching on the bardo states referred only to the after death states like the clear light one and then the illusory dream like states to follow to draw you into rebirth and not the pre death states like being and dreaming interesting since it supports my understanding of dreaming.

+Douglas Brown I have long suspected our ability to become aware during sleep, ie. lucid dreaming, enables us to glimpse into what death might be like. Some upon death don't even realise they are dead (same as accepting the oddities which may occur in dreams) The art of lucid dreaming prepares your awareness to decipher your mental realm.

Maybe when the Tibetans say life is a training for death they are talking about dreams.Dreams are a reminder of how unaware we really are and even in a lucid dream we can be aware we are dreaming but eventually you have to ask yourself what place is this? If you are aware that ur in a dream and the dream is suppose to be of your own creation then where are you.It`s almost like maybe although ur aware somehow u must be unaware of this reality ur creating.It`s just very strange

I have been experiencing something weird. What everyone calls astral projection. It was beautiful sometimes. Then pretty creepy or scary. Lol I got stuck in some black area. There was nothing there. Except some being that I can't remember. I freaked out at first. Then I closed my eyes. I was telling myself to calm down. That I needed to feel love. It took me a second but I did. Then I was asking questions. I can't remember the questions, the answers or the being. Lol All the important things. Well I got scared after a few bad experiences. So I was trying to stop it. Which it did stop. It lasted awhile. Until a couple weeks ago. I laid down on my side and it was over. I got up off the bed. Then looked around. I just knew I was going to turn around and see my body. Which is exactly what happened. I refused to look at my face. I was touching my leggings. It felt so real. It was the weirdest thing. To see your own body. While your standing over it. Then I remembered my husband was in the kitchen. He was talking with my brother. So I ran in there. I seen them standing side by side. They had their backs to me. Just chatting like normal. I had a bright idea of screaming his name. Then I got slung in my body. Glad it happened fast. I had some walls between myself and body. I'm going to read this book. Just wondering if anyone knows if that book explains this. I stopped watching those new age channels. They don't understand what they are playing with. I never thought about learning what Buddha had to say. The Bible doesn't explain this. That I've read. I guess it could be in a missing Gospel. We all know the Vatican kept a bunch hidden. I think all religions are connected. Anyways, Leave a comment if you have advice/answer. Thanks

Padmasambhava did not go far enough. He went deep but his consciousness did not achieve solidity. Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds." Gospel of Thomas, saying 22 What is he seeking? Oneness with the Universe? Or, eternal life? Padmasambhava believed that life is a cycle of birth and rebirth until one finally achieves realization. Eternal life is a life outside of linear time. And what must you have in order to live? (80) Jesus said, "He who has recognized the world has found the body, but he who has found the body is superior to the world." Anyone that has traveled out of their earthly body can understand what Padmasambhava knew about the moments after death. But OOBE's are a byproduct of the search. They are NOT a higher level of consciousness. And the kundalini vibrations are also byproducts of the search (The "visions" that come with the chakra stimulations are what matters, not the vibrations). What the kundalini yoga's interpret from the top of the head chakra is incorrect. They focus on the light instead of looking around. After the tickling, when you see the white light, look down and around...then behold...The two have become one. But when the hearing begins to fade and the sounds of the Kingdom come, you will have to make a quick decision. What will YOU do? For on the day that you were one, you became two

This sound all good and well. But the same question always arises to me when talking about religious ideologies: How was the knowledge of that specific belief system acquired? This is true for all religious ideologies. How was their knowledge acquired? In this Buddhist case, I found only one vague story about a buddhist monk who died and came back with some knowledge of the bardos. But that story sounded funky. Not because it's written in a book means that it's true.
@rapisode1
@rapisode1 2 жыл бұрын
The amount of symbols and metaphors that we daily believe in, without checking their validity, is enormous. These monks were much more thorough in their research into reality than we are actually. The only way you will ever find out is to understand the theory, and then practice it until you get it. Scientism has destroyed the framework of inner subjective reality as a path towards knowledge, because from a material standpoint, there is no subjective experience. No scientist ever has located a single thought, only a vague Fmri scan that highlighted some brain activation. The inner world is actually where the magic happens. You have to put your money on your own subjective experience.

The thing is don't most physicists believe there are multiple dimensions now? Don't most scientists believe there are probably parallel realities right on top of ours? These bardos are just parallel realities and worlds that is right next to ours.... Doesnt matter you can't see it sense them doesn't mean they aren't there.... I cannot understand why the concept of Merit earning one a human life instead of an animal. What the hell about human beings is much better than that of an animal? I suppose if your of really low merit being reborn as an animal humans use in factories would be terrible, but what about a bird or a wolf, a fish, a whale that's makes one think this is lower or worse than a human? In the grand scheme humans seem lost and self destructive, how is this type of life earned with merit? Oh wait yeah, the concept that living in strife is the fast path to being released from the wheele,,is that it? High merits being born into a human life so when they die they get the hell off the wheel for good.

Humans can achieve nirvana due to our level of conscious. This means we can escape the cycle and for some reason only humans have the ability to achieve nirvana. Animals, because they are mostly directed by instincts can't achieve nirvana hence are lower than humans. It kinda makes sense but I'm no scholar so I can't really give u a good explanation.

Im sure some religious tradition says animals cant achieve Nirvana, but I cant agree or see any way a man could prove this. Besides if we look at Nirvana from a certain point of view it is a way of thinking and feeling not a "realm" as in a out of earthly dimension like the Christian heaven like our human mythologies often describes it.
