Thanks for this video, followed your description to the letter and mine works now! Had to use a little WD40 to get the final spruce for the gas struts but all works now! Thanks again!!

Awesome. Thanks very much for taking the time to show us. I'm down for this.

The car actually did this when new. If you just replace the struts and grease all the hinges it works but with poor design not for long. Seen a few new reviews where it did it.

Putting a link to the screws in the description would help everyone a great deal.

Hilton, I think people should have the option to choose their own supplier in their own part of the world. The info to search for is in the video. My supplier wouldn’t ship to Australia for example. Cool videos by the way 🙂

@@PeteDay Thanks Pete. After replacing my gas struts my trunk was opening by itself, albeit slowly. I used a similar method but different components today and now it springs to life like a jack out the box. I'll be doing a video on it with a link to your video. 😉

Hey Pete, seen how many views you suddenly getting? :) I put a link in my video to yours so people can see how and where to drill ;-)

thanks so much Why didn't jaguar do this in the first place.
@jasonnicholas37222 жыл бұрын
Why? The thought of drilling holes in the boot of my car would have given me nightmares. I cut larger holes in a rubber washer so the washer sat on the plastic peg already in place and used a little gorilla glue to hold it in place. It's less evasive.

I can't see how, on video, the bolt has anything to do with the gas strut. What am I missing? I pick my new xfs v6 tomorrow 😁

Worked for me, and all working perfect, no new parts and have 2008 xf, wouldn't recommend the depth, shorter say 15mm would work

Would the existing struts have improved with the introduction of the two screws? I’ve just replaced my two struts and it isn’t much different using the key fob but works much better using the boot release button inside the car.

I tried this and didn't work for me, but I realised right before I started that my screws, while being the right size, actually had 8mm heads instead of 10mm. Being impatient I decided to have a go anyways, but after doing one side I noticed there was zero difference (not like in your video) so have ordered new 10mm headed screws and will try again next week!
@xl1200r5 жыл бұрын
Just done mine,but broke the head off one of the self tappers but it sticks out the same distance as the one that worked,maybe use a 3.5mm drill as it would be easier to cut the thread.maybe now use an extractor to remove the offending self tapper or just leave it,still works a treat though.😁

Hi, I have just ordered the screws to complete your mod on my 2008 XF, Can I ask if you also have a fix to enable the boot lid to close as well as your boot lid appears too. I need to slam mine to make it completely close. Your advise would be appreciated. Thank you for a great video on the auto boot opening
@PeteDay2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. I’m sorry that I can’t help you with the closing issue; it’s possible that one of the power cables in the boot loom may have broken. I have heard they can be repaired or the loom can be purchased for around £100

What does the bolt actually do? I dont get how it allows the boot to open fully
@PeteDay6 жыл бұрын
Hi Azan, the depth of the bolt head puts a bit of extra tension on the spring that opens the boot which gives it the momentum to open the boot wider. If yours doesn't open fully, then lubricate the hinges and the strut pivots with light oil or silicone spray lube.

What's holding you back
@jgvmusic87823 жыл бұрын
you need to replace the struts on the X-type, the ones fitted only have a 450nm rating...(Not enough)... 600nm works a treat :) and then as with the XF you need to pack the actuator with around 2mm of something to raise tension in the lid slightly to help it get moving
Can you not just screw into the rubber/plastic tab?
@carfanfan6 жыл бұрын
You can't, its a flimsy little thing. Just pull it off and drill into the car. Water doesn't get there so it won't rust. You can treat it with some rustolium or even grease before putting your screw in.
@stevechapman65515 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Also this mod will not make any difference if your struts are worn out and weak.
@martinhuusfelt17832 жыл бұрын
Just buy a new pair of gas shocks problem solved. And don't ever lubricate the shocks it doesn't need to and u just break them further down.
@stevechapman65515 жыл бұрын
On older cars, this by itself will not work. New struts are also required. If you choose the correct size self tapping screws which are thick but very short, there is no need to drill a pilot hole either.
@gamewithgreg5 жыл бұрын
What do you define as an 'older car'? Is my 2012 XF too old?
@stevechapman65515 жыл бұрын
@@gamewithgreg Mines a 2013 and needed struts, which fixed the problem, so yes a 2012 model will probably need them too. See my post on Hiltons video.
