It is assumed that Mesão Frio started in a Mansio (inn from Roman times) on the old road that connected to Amarante from Lamego (See the video • RESENDE - DOURO | Teso... ). there is a reference to Mesão Frio in a document from 1059 as "mansio frigido" which seems to confirm the existence of a medieval inn in this place. In any case, it is a village that, when passing through it, gives us a magical gateway to the Douro Wine Region, a World Cultural Heritage Landscape and the first demarcated wine region in the world.
