I took a gamble on a "for parts/not working" listing for a Mesa Boogie Simul-Stereo 295 rack power amp. This video follows this classic amp's path from scrap to redemption. I use the LAG Spitfire guitar preamp to test the 295.

That Lag preamp sounds fantastic! How serendipitous that your 25 year old unfinished project had just the part you needed, too. 🍻

Great stuff Michael! Looking forward to more bench work from you! I have a 1988 295, with the controls in the back, superb amp 🤘

I think this is my new favorite channel. Michael...please do a studio tour! How many guitar amps do you have? How many RIGS do you have? Do you have any recording outboard gear? Let's SEE IT!!!!!!!

I enjoyed that. A lot. I love watching amp repair/restoration vids. I had no idea you had an electronics background. Would love to see more of this on the channel. Maybe some preamp mods… Give’s a peek inside that blue light studio pre 😜

I really enjoyed making this vid. I'll do more of this as I have some good electronics builds coming up.

Nice job. Good thing it didn't need a full recap.

This is the good stuff! There isn't probably a lot of viewership for this, but I love it. Also not sure if you were avoiding playing we die young, but coincidentally I was playing it just last night.

This is really what I love to do. Build and fix stuff... and collect rack gear. I have a curse of never being able to play riffs like the original. ;)

@@michaeltoren I feel your pain ;) I was never the kid who pulled everything apart to see how it worked (I was too hesitant to break the little fancy we had :-D), but now with channels like yours I'm fascinated by building and fixing. Or just doing maintenance operations yourself. It opens up many possibilities in collecting too, when you're not strictly limited to working and good shape units!

I own a simul-class 295. it must be an early version because there is only a volume knob per channel and it is located in the back. There is no presence knobs either. I use it with my Tech 21 psa 1 or my ADA MP1 Classic. Best power amp ever IMO. I sometime use a Peavey 50/50 when I'm too weak to carry it around. LoL

@Etienne me too, same layout, mine is a 1988 🙂 Agree a total monster tone with any decent pre amp.

Damn at the filter caps in that thing…Far cry from the modern 2:90’s they make now….Never heard one of these..I imagine it’s loud…I love old power amps..My main one I use is a Marshall 9005 from 92….
@michaeltoren
@michaeltoren 2 жыл бұрын
This one has a lot of caps. They really don't make the big power amps like they used to, which is good and bad. They are much more portable now but they do lack the beef that comes from the big transformers. The 9005s were great too!
@scottpeters4401
@scottpeters4401 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaeltoren yeah,these days,portability takes precedence over sound to a large degree….I love my 9005..it’s huge,it’s heavy,but it sounds great…It’s my favorite out of all the modern amps I have tried…I would love to get one these old 295’s one day…Does the Simul Class thing really add that much to the sound?…I used to think it was kind of gimmicky,but I have never tried one…..

Nice, I have the 295. Also a quad, bass 400+, d180 and pulse 360. Have you heard of Risson?
@michaeltoren

The Bass 400+ s a beast! I use it as an amp by itself and as a power amp for my preamps (via effects return). Haven't heard of Risson. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the tip!

Hello my name is Pete I live in Tampa Florida I have a Mesa boogie Simol class 2: ninety everything lights up,fans running,Exterior bus fuses are all good but my 6L6 tubes won't light up,any suggestions?

Sounds like the heaters aren't getting power in the tubes. This would be a second circuit off the main power transformer.
