Hey guys, thanks for joining me tonight. This was an interesting amp to dial in. Please keep in mind that I only had 10 minutes with this amp before I shot the video.

On the Mark series amps, the BMT controls are not really for BMT. They are before the preamp which is different than most amps. They are more gain controls than eq, similar to a boost pedal. Basically bass should be almost off completely, treble all the way up, mids around the middle or lower and then use the 5 band eq to actually adjust BMT. The 5-band eq is after the preamp and before the power amp.

@@TONEWARSgearshow Great review, love the Majesty too. I have been so tempted to get one for many years now. But every time I think I'm about to pull the trigger, that price tag punches me in the gut! I know it would be worth it in the long run though. As a testament to their quality, my sales rep at Sweetwater told me they have an almost zero percent return rate on EBMM guitars. The new Sabre guitars they have come out with look really nice as well.

This is so important but when you get it you really see how versatile these amps are. Personally I like running mids high on the prepre and completely cut on the graphic.

They are originally based on fender blackface amplifiers where the tone controls are immediately after the first gain stage. Unlike Marshall where tone controls come after the distortion being made in the preamp. It’s the difference between putting an eq pedal before an overdrive vs. after the overdrive

Finally a proper metal demo of this amp. I like your tone on mark 7 mode both with or without OD. Interestingly, the position of all the knobs is very similar to what how I dial an amp sim. On mark V demo, I usually see BMT knobs are either set too low or too high and the EQ is what makes the final tone. Overall, I like all the tone you get on this demo even the one you dislike.

Ultimate awesome job on the video Jarrod as I watched from the beginning. What's really cool is your awesome demo of the MK 7 with the Mesa rec 2x12 cab....and Ola's demo with the Mesa 4x12 cab. Great insight hearing with both cabs. I can see Mesa purposely coming out with a "MK 8 infinity" amp in future to follow this one with 2 graphic EQ's . Smart on their end if they do..!

Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you got a chance to watch the whole thing Tony. Yeah, this amp really surprised me. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. The reason why I say that is because of the issues I had with the MKV 90. This one is so much better.

@Nik-zc5ro
@Nik-zc5ro Жыл бұрын
The channel eq is pre gain stages thus it kinda works like a boost. The 5-band is more what you find on other amps since it’s post gain stages. That’s why a lot of people feel no need for a boost on a mark amp.
@axepharaoh
@axepharaoh Жыл бұрын
Jarod, excellent job! Finished the video with a real sense of the amp sound! A few explanations: - Treble: yes, it adds gain, BUT, the knobs SHARE the amount of signal, so if you max the treble, your Mid and Bass knob are useless, that's why you generally set up for a thick sound for chords (treble at 2, 3 max for enough gain) along with bass/mids, and engage a boost if you want tight chugs, this way it tightens but doesn't take away the bass and mids from the gain, it's nice to know its there tho, if you don't have your pedals, crank it. Mk VII mode: if it's a Mark / Recto crossover, it'll probably be kinda loose, so like the recto, it'd need a boost to tighten it. Again, kudos, using only extreme settings doesn't get us a sense of the amp sound, but you went through the full spectrum and it's clear it's a fire amp. I really hope you do a JP2C comparison and tell us what you think of the difference in the room. Cheers!

I'm not normally a Mesa guy- at least not since the MKIV. But this thing is a beast, I'm digging the voicing of the MKVII mode, I think with some brighter speakers could be some real flavour country. But as always I think the MKIV is the best Mark- the extra inate compression over the 2C+ just makes all round suited to a wider variety of metal genres. One of the big deals with this amp tho is the dual Poweramp Bias- easy swap out between 6l6 and el34- I would love to see the difference with EL34's.

Was just doing A-B-A testing of my MKIV vs my JP2C today mic’d between a Mesa 2x12 and Marshall 4x12 v30 loaded cab and my god the MKIV ALWAYS reminds me how fugging good it is. I basically never touch it and only use it for channel 3 on kill and it’s just an animal. I found myself trying to get the JP2C to sound like it, which is dumb bc the JP does the MKIIC thing better and has a better lead channel capability and control imo (I use the 2nd channel for riffing and 3rd for lead). Anyway, long winded way of saying I agree entirely!

great review as always...one thing i'd love to see is how the mk7 mode works for solo's...u can't beat the 2c or mk4 mode for rythm, but where do you go when you wanna kick in for leads onstage? i still subcribe to the 3ch idea of clean, rythm & lead...without having 20,000 pedals

I played a Boogie 50 Cal + combo for a decade. Once you experience what a Boogie can do every other amp sounds like cardboard. It was built like a tank. I changed tubes three times in the decade I owned it, and I played the hell out of that amp just about every day. It took tumbles down long staircases, fell off loading docs, and barely had a scratch. Best amp I ever owned. It tore the face off my Marshall stack. Monster amp. I wish I still had it.

Mark 7 mode is not for me either. Kind of a shame. My ideal mark series tone is the Mark IV through and through. Dry, percussive, and tight but more modern sounding than the 2C+. The Mark 7 mode sounds like they were trying to inject some rectifier DNA into the mark series and it's just not really my thing. Then again, I've never been a rectifier fanboy either. At least not the 3 channels. I had a 2ch Tremoverb at one point and that thing was kick ass.... but I've never played a newer 3 channel I actually liked. My ideal high gain tones these days are definitely the EVH 5150s, both the EL34 and 6L6 Stealth heads. Thanks for getting the demo out asap though. Pretty sure this is still the first demo I've seen where a boost gets used.

This is the better demo I've seen of the amp, still not sure about it, i have a mark V, bought a jp2c a few days ago, but unfortunately mine came defective, so hoping by next weekend I'll have a working JP2C. I've had really good luck out of the Mark V, you really gotta put a lot of time into tweaking it, little here and there, I've been able to dial in some stuff that was inline with what my Mark IV did. I've noticed on full power mode with the V, switching to 2C+ or IV mode seems like the bottom end drops out, But I've found using Variac power and triode mode helps bring it back. Seems like the VII retains the bottom end on most of the modes, so that's a big plus alone. Maybe I'll pick one up later this year.

upon watching this video, I decided to go with the EVH Stealth, I'm having trouble choosing between the 50 watt or the 100 watt

Get the 100watt. Fuller, meaner and more tone sculpting options. The Easter Eggs in it are also amazing

I fail to see how this amp improves upon the Mark V by any significant difference. Do you agree?

I think the gain structure is much better on this one.

Even though I enjoyed this amp, to me it doesn’t stack up against the jp2c purely from a metal perspective. It def. Offers more versatility however

For metal I think the JP2c is better, the double GEQ is great! Actually I’m a metal guy 90% of the time so channel 2 on this head might yield some nicer bluesy stuff than my JP I love the JP and it has gain for days I don’t think the shred switch is needed We all stick a hot box of some kind on the front end anyway So I’m wondering if the VII is just more versatile for the every genre guitarist I hoping to try a VII and focus on channel 2 Besides that they sound almost the same to me with the JP having a higher gain ceiling almost to high, (just kidding you can never have too much gain)

Dude, I need this amp! Is it true bypass? Does it have a sweet spot? Is it transgender friendly? Covid compatible? Can it get Eddy's "Smells like teen spirit" tone? Asking for a friend

les utilisateurs de Boogie Mark Series sont tous constipés avec le 7khz (sur l'égalisateur) dans le négatif!! Éssayer le avec le 7khz dans le positif vers +1db et vous verrez que c'est beaucoup mieux comme çà!

I’m still not a fan of that series, they are so brash, tears my ears up, but it definitely nails that Metallica Kill ‘Em All tone

Is it me or does this amp have way too much bass? The sounds from this amp are a little bit extreme with the hyped bass. The demos of this Mark VII give me ear fatigue which I never seem to get listening to most amp demos. It sounds massive but not in a good way, I am happy that I didn't end up buying this amp I think it would make my ears bleed after 30 minutes.

You can definitely adjust the bass down as much as you want on this amplifier. I usually boost my amps so I like it a bit on the thick side.

Really bad amp. Too dry with a poor harmonic content. Made for metal? Not really. You have to use an od in front to achieve more saturation and that's really annoying considering the price. The Revv generator 120 Mk3 totally destroys the Mesa in terms of fullness and features.
