Meshtastic LoRa Encrypted Radio Comms for SHTF

LoRa, (LOng RAnge) radios use low frequency and power and can transmit for possibly up to 100 miles. In addition to this each radio can use the other radios to form a network or Mesh to convey information. While these radios pack a lot of functionality, in this video I'll only expore their ability to send text messages via radio waves even if cell towers are down. Great presentation. I love new gadgets and this one interests me. I'm a former Navy Aviation Electronics Technician, Radio Operator on P-3 Orion's, Private Pilots, Boat builder, Horseman, Organic Gardener and of course an Amateur Radio Fella. Thanks for your comment and your hobbies. I forgot to mention being in the military. I think that’s a big one too. And gardener another one that I thought of but forgot at the time of scripting. Built intricate model railroad landscapes as a kid with dad, dad was scuba and I prefer skin diving and windsurfing, boy scout, pilot lessons as a teenager and RC airplanes, first Yamaha 3 wheeler when I was three (1984) raced 125's later on and now prefer enduro, both my son and I can hit sub-moa at a hundred yards with his bolt action 22LR. Loving the world of making analog electric music, programming, Raspberry Pi, Bitcoin, LORA, etc.. Freedom.

If I understand this right, which is by no means a given, it's one of those technologies where the more people who have one, the better it works. In other words, if you have a device and you're hiking in the mountains it's not going to be proximate enough to another device, that is also close to a device to get into the mesh. I doubt if that device could even reach a mile on its own.

I think that you understand it right, but it’s also no means a given that I understand right. If you are hiking with friends and you are out of cell range then you will all be able to communicate together. Or if you are camping then you could set up a node in a tree at your camp site. Folks claim to get “miles” of reach but I think I’ll just have to see for myself. Thanks for your comment!
