It's not as bad as one would think. Most of their riffs repeat (albeit over the barline) so it's a matter of memorizing the riff and then just getting used to the repetitions as it cycles over the 4/4. They definitely rehearse, and practice too, but the music isn't too bad if you take your time and sit with it.

Personally either somewhere in the middle of the set, or at the end is perfect. There's a certain point of playing drums where if you push past, you'll pretty much tap into almost endless stamina. I've read Gene Hoglan in SYL/Death days would play the majority of a set with ankle weights on, then take them off towards the end for more endurance demanding pieces.

It's in between Lethargica and Demiurge, because they're relatively less intensive songs for Tomas to play. They're a bit slower and easier, so he gets at least a bit of a rest before and after Bleed. It's a pretty well-designed setlist to accommodate for how demanding Bleed is.

hell yes. he is on it here. Brutal. Not a flat scream to be heard. That's true aggro vox. None of that cliche death metal stuff. So over the bear growl "im so scary" sound from 1990 that so many bands still do unfortunately. What Jens does... you cant cheat with it. You cant learn any tricks for it. He screams raw mostly mid range. Shit hurts. Trial by fire. Just gotta do it to build and a physical tolerance for it over time.

He has gotten so much flak over the years. But, also to me, he has become such an integral part to the quality of this band's sound. I honestly don't know if he has gotten better over the years or maybe I just learned to appreciate him more, but I could not imagine Meshuggah without him today. In any case, his screams grew dear to my heart and I see his originality; like a commenter before me mentioned, it's not cliche death metal stuff. I salute him to staying true to his style!

If it hurts when you sing, you're doing it wrong. I'm pretty sure he got there through proper vocal training. I don't mean academy, but actually training his vocal cords to withstand the fry. You don't get this good by wrecking your vocal apparatus. No such thing as tolerance. It's like saying you can build a tolerance to cutting. It doesn't work that way.

1) Serious kudos to Per Nilsson for coming in and doing solid work - it ain't easy to jump into this band. 2) I haven't made it to Bleed yet, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how well these tunes are coming off live, and sometimes slower than the albums. This band continues to be my favorite band ever - they rarely disappoint!

Bleed is one of those songs that are popular for a reason. There's so much going on with this song. The catchy main riff and the anthemic vocal structure are in total antithesis with what Haake plays. Meshuggah's songwriting is just phenomenal.

I kind of feel like that’s how a lot of people would be during a show of theirs. You have intentions of going to a metal concert, moshing a little, laughing, screaming, and having a great time. But you ended up at a Meshuggah concert. You stood there with your hands on your head, glued to one spot on the floor, mouth agape and barely blinking for an hour and a half. Never taking your eyes off the gentlemen on stage. You were completely blown away in a way and on a level that you didn’t even know was possible. You walked out looking for validation to your response to it all. And you got it, because all you could see was shock and disbelief on the face of everyone else that was there as you all slowly and quietly piled out of the venue.
