The fills Bonham does here especially towards the end are much more complex and incredible than the studio version. You can see how much more Bonham improved as a drummer in the two years since the 77 tour, even though he was already phenomenal.

This song was written while Plant & Page drove through the Sahara desert, they visited Morocco & fell in love with everything about it. Plant still visits there often. My understanding, it took a couple years to get the music just the way they wanted it. This is the song the band is most proud of.

Nice going, Phil. At the concert you just watched (1979- Robert was 30) many folks said that Robert had already lost his voice (nodes operation) in 1974 (I think it was)... that he was washed up. Well check out the same song from Celebration Day (2007- Robert was 59). He may have lost a high note or two, but he still had top performance chops. And, btw- the sound is better. One of the differences between English as spoken in England and English as spoken in America is the length of vowel sounds. Americans often use the long vowel sounds where Brits keep them short. All this is a preamble to saying that the e in Knebworth is short (like the e in egg) not long (like the e in each) It's not pronounced Kneebworth.

The '79 Knebworth concert was 1 yr before the band broke up (after drummer Bonham died). If you love Kashmir you might like watching them perform it at the 2007 Celebration Day concert in London, nearly 30 yrs later (with Bonham's son Jason on drums). You must understand the context, bro! At that time, LED ZEPPZLIN, didn't played since 2 years, because, of all troubles they had since 1977, (Robert's son who died, Jimmy Page, Jonh Bonham, taking too much drugs, like cocaïne, alcohol, etc....)....And, at that period, the young bands, were playing PUNK music, they were saying ROCK is dead, LED ZEPPELIN was an OLD, HAS-BEEN BAND for the teenagers, in 1979😂! They were jaleous, that's all! Unable to create such a great music! BUT: AT KNEBWORTH, 400,000 peoples came to see LED ZEPPELIN! They stole the show! Even, if it's not their best concert, they gave the stupid, arrogant, punk bands, a very hard lesson, about music! Especially, that version of KASHMIR😂✌️🖕Peace from France bro✌️👍
