@@opensourc I always find funny how people overhype the heroes of the past. Maradona was great, but the only thing he had over Messi is the fact that he lead Argentina to a world cup win; other than that, the club career and goals, assists, playmaking and overall influence on the game goes hands down to Messi, but more than anything, Maradona had 3-4 brilliant years at his peak, and beyond that he was a shadow of himself, while Messi is playing at world-class level for almost 15 years and counting.

People seem to be forgetting that prime Messi was elite with pressing and defending with the team. He'd track back and take the ball and build up play. He'd track back and look like a left back. He'd track back and look like a defensive midfielder. People need to make more edits of younger/prime Messi defending and pressing.

I think this s a secret why messi maintains at the top level for 15years+ and hardly injured. he knows his limit he knows he s aging and cant run the whole 90mins and he adapts his play style run only when necessary for the best result

In today's football, all players should defend at some points! Messi could defend well! but if he wastes his energy in defending he will not have enough to attack! Messi should be free to do what he is great at: play-making and scoring!

When people say he doesn’t defend.. he doesn’t do it often bc it is not his position and he uses efficiency to maximize energy as a forward. With age he tries to not waste unnecessary energy even more, so less defending actions will be seen. HOWEVER! it does NOT mean that he isn’t capable of defending and plus when he does it, he defends in the smartest and cleanest way possible and doesn’t just take clear a ball he takes with him and starts a play forward. Amazing!
