This is the real GOAT ! 4 world cup = 3 Wins. 17 years old hattrick in WC still nobody have done these things. He scored over 1k goals in his career also.... He beat up all European teams back in the days they did a tour every year in Europe. All respect for all other legends, but this man was something else ✨

In 2015, France Football (the magazine which awards the Ballon d'Or) went back and evaluated how many Ballon d'Or Pele should have won if it had been available to players worldwide in his era, instead of only Europe. They retroactively awarded him 7 Ballon d'Or (for the years 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1970).

Pelé played in Europe. For Santos he played 130 games against European teams, and scored 134 goals. Just to mention a few FACTS: In 1959, playing in the Valencia Tournament against Inter Milan of Italy, at the age of 18, Santos won 7-1. 4 goals from Pelé. In the same year, in 1959, they faced Barcelona, who had just won the Spanish Championship and the Copa del Rey. Santos won 5-1. Pelé scored 2 goals. In the 1962 Club World Cup (Intercontinental Cup), Santos faced Benfica, current champion of the European Champions League, and Eusebio's team. Santos won 5x2. 3 goals from Pelé.

I was a teenager when Pele came to the US to play for the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League (predecessor to MLS, 1968-1984). Pele played for the Cosmos for 3 seasons (1975, 1976, 1977), and I saw him play against the St. Louis Stars in 1977. Besides Pele, the Cosmos also had Georgio Chinaglia, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto in their lineup. Regardless of the sport, each generation of players builds upon what the previous generation did.

I'm 34 and say he is the GOAT because I have in mind a vision when he use his skills in today and it would work today. That means something and look how fast, strong and his movement is perfect ! It's not just that...everybody wanted to defeat Santos back in the days and he have more goals than matches against eupropean teams...he destroy them all ! That's why he stayed in Santos ! To me that loyalty is 100% love.

As if my other comment weren't overkill... I enjoy your reactions immensely. Your knowledge of football, tactics, technique, etc is impressive - encyclopedic, even. I respect your insight and analysis immensely. And yet, you absolutely lost the plot with one of your final points. When you say, "I didn't see Pelé play live, but I did see Messi, therefore I have to say Messi is better", you show your hand. If you had said, "Messi is the best player I've ever seen in real time", I'd be with you. He's the best player whom anyone under 50 has ever seen in a live match. That doesn't make him the best ever. As for crediting subsequent players as more skilled for elaborating on tricks and techniques which Pelé (or Puskas, or Cruyff, or whoever) pioneered/invented, I find that argument equally weak. Is a physics professor at a modern university more of a genius than da Vinci or Newton or Leibnitz because he's learned of discoveries subsequent to their lifetimes? Of course not. Is a modern general greater than Ghengis Kahn, or Julius Caesar, or Alexander the Great or Miltiades, because his army can move faster and hit harder with modern firepower and mechanized equipment? Again, of course not. One should not defer automatically and unilaterally to an older person simply because he's older. But one should certainly assume that the older person has seen more and is likely to have broader knowledge. When you've been about long enough, you learn two things. First, you learn that your father was much smarter than you ever have him credit for being. Second, you learn that whatever you thought you knew to a moral certainty in youth, is not nearly as true as you once believed.

6:30... but it isn't just the skills, though. Like you said in the beginning of the video, Ronaldinho is arguably the most skillful player the game has ever produced but he was not consistent enough and didn't remain on top for a long period of time. Pele also has accomplishments. Shy of the Copa America, Pele won everything in his career. And for those who would argue Ballon D'ors, France football redid their Ballon D'ors from the its inception to when they allowed non-European players to win it and Pele won it a then-record 8 times. Won the world cup teice, techincally 3 times. Played against all European giants and put a whooping on them. The guy was unreal. He will remain the Greatest the sport has ever produced until further notice.

Pelé is the GOAT, its not about who you saw bro, Pelé is the greatest for the same reason that Jordan and Muhammad Ali are the goats of their sports, they trancended their sports, Pele was named athlete of the 20th century above all these legends, he was named player of the 20th century by fifa over Maradona, Di stefano, Cruyff, Beckenbauer all the greats, Messi aint the best athlete of his generation... Pelé was honored in the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth and gained the title of Sir, he is way bigger and more important for football´s history based on legacy, Now if we talk about quality on the field, as you said, Pelé had everything, he had everything that Messi, Maradona, CR7, Ronaldo, Zidane had.... he is the best player of the biggest compatition World Cup, the only player who was crowned the king of this sport called football, he has the record for most career goals recognized by the Guinness Book, 1283 goals, In every FIFA award he was at he was called the greatest of all team in front of Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Zidane, Ronaldo, Messi, CR7... he was always recognized as the GOAT.

Di Stefano knew everything. Pele invented everything. Football is this magic you know today because of him. When Ronaldinho played for Barcelona 2004/2005, the people always watched and thougjt before the game "What will he do today?". That's what Pele always was: people from EVERY place of the world when was watching he playing got impressed by a knew dribbling, passing or magic play that was never seen before. That's why these new generation cannot know completly the great impact he did.

Pele actually was tested in Europe as Santos made milionaires tours across Europe and Pele destroyed them. And this irrelevant cause brazilian football in general was superior at that time. We won 3 out of 4 World Cups in that period. This clip is really good but there are others even better and more complete. Pele was the most complete player ever. Beside this skills, he dribbled and shot with both legs, head, he had free kicks, assists, and a beyond belief vision, and his athleticism is compared to CR7 wich is the highest level at nowadays in this matter. Pele was the ultimate football player.

During the time of Pele Brazil won three out of four world cups. The only time a European team won was in 1966 when Pele was attacked like crazy. The majority of all Brazilians played in Brazil. That would suggest they had the best league in the world. Also he did actually play against European teams in friendlies. They were going full out and still he scored a ridiculous amount of goals against them.

He should watch and react to "Pelé era el futuro" video here. It's more complete. And about defenders, at the time there was no red or yellow cards, so Pelé was hunted during the matches. And last: Pelé won 3 World Cups where all the brazilian players played in brazilians teams. That's shows you how strong was Brazilian football back in the days. Vasco da Gama, brazilian team, in 1957 beated Real Madrid (4x2) that just won the Champions of the time, and days later scored 7x2 against Barcelona. That's how good the teams were In Brazil.

You started the video saying that Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are better than Ronaldinho Gaúcho, due to the longevity of their careers. Taking this criterion as a principle for defining the best player in the world, there has never been a better player than Pelé and add to this the world titles he won, three in total, and also the number of goals scored. In his entire career, 1283 goals in 1363 games!

Vasco x Barcelona of Guayaquil in 1998 the brazilian team couldn't sleep the night before the game: there were fireworks the whole night in the front of the hotel and some people shouting with machine guns. With all respect for Messi, he is absolutely *NOT* the greatest player ever. That title belongs to Edson Arantes do Nasciemento, AKA Pelé. He's criticized because he didn't play in Europe. Here's a newsflash: in his day, the best players and club teams were South American. Santos, Palmeira, Flamenco, Boca Juniors, River Plate, Universitario, Nacional, etc were the Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, and Inter Milan of that age. International transfers were rare at the time and intercontinental transfers were nearly unheard of. Pelé played his club football against the best talent on the planet - and he dominated. Nearly 500 of his career goals don't count for his official career total because they occured during so-called barn-storming matches. "They shouldn't count because he was playing against farmers!" goes the common criticism. Wrong. Most of those goals were scored against the best of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Because football wasn't yet truly interconnected globally. There was no satellite television, no Internet, no 24 hour sports programming. Globetrotting tours were the only way to showcase his brilliance to a larger audience. With those goals added to his tally, he outscored both Messi and Ronaldo by several hundred. Pelé achieved his fame - and make no mistake, he was bigger than Messi in the global consciousness - without social media and without global broadcasting. His name and face were more recognizable as a brand than Coca Cola and Disney. Kings, queens, Popes, and presidents rearranged their schedules just to shake his hand. His presence guaranteed a cease fire during an African civil war so that soldiers from both sides could watch him play. He was the best player on the best team ever assembled - 1970 Brazil (which marked his *THIRD* World Cup). And his team didn't need to be awarded 7 penalties in the tournament in order to win. He invented the concept of product placement marketing with Puma. It was the first globally broadcast World Cup in color. Knowing that attention would be focused on him, he deliberately stopped to tie his laces very slowly, as cameras zoomed in on his boots. Both Puma and Pelé made millions as a result. He starred in a Hollywood film, Escape to Victory. Pelé's shoulders carry today's greats. That doesn't mean that Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, Haaland, Salah, Kane, et al aren't great. It doesn't mean that Messi isn't by far the greatest of his generation. But, it does mean that they walked in the footsteps of the true King. Finally, he had a twenty year career *without* the benefit of three generations of medical and training advancement. Show some respect, youngsters.

Calling people who have never seen Pele playing and still think he is the greatest ignorant just showed me your poor mentality and judgment capability. Another thing that scares me about this generation is underestimating the capacity to invent instead of copy. I didn't see: Pele playing Michelangelo painting Shakespeare writing and I could go on and on on this list... But I know they are geniuses. The only thing new-generation players have better than Pele is media coverage. If Pele had 4K images in his time, we wouldn't been having this discussion. Pele is the greatest of all times!!!

Fun fact; pele actually played as a goalkeeper at least 4 times for Santos, in his career. Apparently he had a clean sheet in all those games. By the way, i agree with you that pele didnt really invent all these skills in the video but i think he was maybe the first total fotballer, at least on the global stage, so you are right about that. Also, i agree with you that even though pele did those skills a long time ago, doesnt mean that modern footballers cant expand on these skills. Im a messi fan and i have seen messi play at the camp nou in Barcelona with my own eyes, and for me Messi will always be the best, at least in my lifetime, but either way i dont think it is good to compare players from different eras but rather appreciate them in their own era.💯🔟✌️🇧🇷🇦🇷

I understand that you never saw Pelé playing and has problem in believing that he was the greatest....but you see...there are people who saw him playing and also saw all the players after him (and in the present time): THEY ALL SAY THAT PELÉ WAS STILL THE GREATEST! So...they have more info than you, because they saw what you didn't and saw what you saw as well! Trust me....PELÉ WAS NOT HUMAN! Another thing...you say that Europe is the most competitive in Football....again...you miss the historical context.....back in the day Europe couldn't have all the best players from other continents....so....the south American leagues were WAY STRONGER than they are today....the best players didn't leave to Europe....so....it wasn't easy as you say...you young children really have to learn to study HISTORY! So you wouldn't commit ANACRONISM! You just keep commiting it...During Pelé's time there wasn't yellow and red card...so the defenders could use all the violence they wanted....they literally took Pelé out of 2 world cups injuring him because they couldn't stop him...nowadays if they touch Messi & Cia they would get expelled of the game.
