Have you tried a weighted blanket? Not that it would help with cooling, but they are calming for those with anxiety. My daughter loves hers.

Gradual exposition can help with your blanket dilemma find something in between (not too heavy not too light) you might need to rough it out the first couple of nights. by the second week you'll be able to transition again, i did. Now i can sleep without anything on top except for my clothes obviously.. Good luck

This is where I'm going to start. My mental health is suffering so bad, and my apartment looks like a depressed person lives here. Dishes look like science experiments, half empty cups of drinks. Maybe waking up and falling asleep in a clean bedroom will help me get motivated to clean other rooms. Your videos never disappoint.

Hey Cass, I came back to this video to tell you how this mindset shift has drastically improved my home life! Honestly, I thought it was crazy - clean your room first? Ridiculous lol. But I feel like I've tried so many things to get control of my home, & they haven't worked, so might as well try this. In the last few weeks, I've kept my room clean & have noticed a lot of changes. I wasn't mad or frustrated with the mess in my house & having to clean up after others; I would clean with no negative thoughts. I was more relaxed at bedtime. Guess what? My husband noticed my change, and has been cleaning without me asking!! My kids don't fight back when I ask them to do something! My whole household has stepped up to support what I want, so I don't have to nag. It feels like we are a team now, instead of me doing it all on my own. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I've never felt better or been happier :)

Lol, I can remember as a kid completely covering myself from head to toe with the blankets to protect against bad things that might be under the bed. I still can't sleep without a quilt, but as a 50 year old woman, it's a breathable all cotton quilt, and one foot out. Also, a little fan on the night stand helps too.

Thank you for this! My bedroom is a disaster right now, and I had planned to tackle another part of the house today. But, I’m going to focus instead on the bedroom. I just spent 2 weeks traveling, and love coming back every night to a clean room, with a neatly made bed. It’s one of my favorite things about traveling. I don’t know why I never thought to recreate this same experience at home! So, today is the day. Thanks for turning that light on in my brain! And, vampires… sheet and blanket(s) up to my chin wards off the vampires…which totally works because I have never been bitten while sleeping!

The blanket is like getting a hug which was how we felt safe as little kids. Many people who need a weighted blanket are those that especially need the feeling of a hug and safety to fall asleep so the blanket thing makes total sense! Time to focus more on my room now, I’ve got other areas pretty well under control with routines, decluttering, and even paint touch ups, etc. Guess I went backwards to this idea. Bedroom is getting the bulk of my summer break attention this week!

This video was like therapy! I have just been scraping by with housework and feeling it. My only goal is to keep it "not disgusting." Because clutter is okay, gross is not. It's a pretty low standard, but it's attainable ; ) And you're right. My room is where I hide everything when people come over. I do put myself last. I don't hide things in my kids room when people come over ,because then I would be a "bad mother." Anyway, I really needed to hear this. Thankyou💜Thankyou🧡Thankyou💙 For 30 days, I will commit to making my room a sanctuary.

You are so right! I redid a bedroom in my home recently for myself and it is the most put together, orderly room in the house. It feels like a sanctuary for me. I always catch a family member (we are 6) standing at the doorway to my room admiring it...I always say, "don't be jealous!"...Lol I make my bed right away after getting up in the mornings and hang my pj's on a hook in the closet specifically attached for that purpose btw. The KEY is to have a place for everything and everything in its place and keep your surfaces decluttered. Think about what you want in your room and plan accordingly. I sometimes stand at the doorway to admire it also, it motivates me to want the rest of my home looking as put together as my bedroom. This is the first time I have been able to finish a room exactly the way I wanted and it feels like such a great accomplishment...it feels great being in that room. It will be easier to do the rest of the house as my family now can see what I am trying to accomplish with the rest of the house. On to another room! Side note: I did this in stages starting the day after Memorial Day...it took me about six weeks to finish. I do go through days of feeling very sad and depressed, but I fight through it trying to keep busy and doing something I look forward to. Having this room done the way I wanted it, with my stuff, helps me to feel like taking better care of myself, like I need to keep doing good things for myself...I matter too. Do something good for yourself!

That's great :) I would clean my room too but we don't have money for more furniture (all I have is a nightstand, desk and bed). It's pretty much impossible to clean as I have lots of stuff but no place to put any of them so they just take up the entire ground and even if I try to put them nicely, it will still look messy.

A clean orderly bedroom is a must for me! Thank you for reenforcing this! When I was 4 or 5 years old, my cousin was spending the night with us. We were laying on my bed, staring out into the dark backyard. He asked me if I knew what was out there in the dark. I was naming all the obvious stuff: trees, grass, garage, and so on. Then he said, “ Know what else? KIDNAPPERS! (He really emphasized that, so I did!) I am now 70 years old and to this day I have to sleep with a nightlight on so I won’t be kidnapped!😂🤣

I'm with you on the blanket, and it's perfectly logical. I don't believe in ghosts per se, but I grew up in a house where weird stuff would just happen. It is a known fact that a substantial blanket is your best weapon when deploying the "if I can't see them, they can't see me" defense maneuver. And if I get hot, then I just send the piggies to the air conditioned mall and wish them the best of luck. I see no flaw in this logic.

A comment on your “crazy question” at the end. You are definitely not the only one. I like it cold in my room so I can have heavy blankets over me. So, I don’t know how I missed this before, but less than a year ago, I decided to try a weighted blanket. After one night I was telling people, “whatever your problem is, the solution is a weighted blanket.” I live alone so this was just for me. I have a standard full size mattress. I bought a 20lb weighted blanket. I cannot stop marveling at the way it has changed my entire sleeping experience! If it is covering me from my feet to my chin, I believe I can feel no pain. If it’s all in my head, that’s fine with me, it works. Also, I feel very secure with it. I don’t toss and turn. And, I’m sure no monster could possibly get through it. You described your sleep issue as if you were describing mine, so I just wanted to throw in my two cents. I say it’s a magic blanket. (I’ve named it Morpheus-😂) Just something to think about.

When you mentioned the trash can in the bedroom again, it reminded me of a previous video where your husband grew up with that as a "no." My mom always told me that dirty laundry doesn't belong in the bedroom so she wouldn't give me a hamper. I would always have dirty laundry on my floor, instead, waiting for me to bring it downstairs to the laundry area. It makes more sense to have at least a small hamper. She also stored all the cleaning supplies hidden away in one cupboard. Now as an adult, I put paper towels and cleaner everywhere I will use them (kitchen, bathroom and mudroom). It makes clean-up much more prompt and I feel less cranky about cleaning up pet messes because it is easy. Mindset is huge and it helps to let go of the prescriptive "shoulds" and set us up for success. Also, my brain tells me the same about bed safety Cass. Hahah. I can't have a leg or arm hang over the bed because a man with an ax is under my bed ready to chop it. Not sure what childhood event pressed that into my brain. I feel so much safer with my blanket, and I have no AC so I have just have a fan. 😅

This video is just what I needed. I recently cleaned up the bedroom because allergies and crazy tissues all under the bed and in drawers and everything. So I took some time, put extra stuff in drawers and dusted and vacuumed and honestly when I wake up I look at the clean floor and I'm happy. Like this is what I needed. And it has slowly trickled into the house. I am keeping the kitchen a little cleaner and the laundry room a little cleaner. And the living room a little cleaner. It's true and it works! Also, I totally can't sleep without a blanket too. And I can't even stick any body part out from under it because I'm that scared. For me it was mice or rats. I was always afraid they would eat my toes and I was teased about it which made it worse. Side note.. I don't like to look out windows because I'm afraid of seeing a t-rex looking in at me. Yup. True story.

Cas, I don't know about the scary movies and the thick blankets, but having worked with students who have disabilities, weighted blankets are sometimes used to help a student to calm down. I think it's the sensory feel of the weight that helps calm the anxiety they are struggling with.

I’ve practiced this forever but more often now and it’s been a miracle . It makes it so easy. I do laundry once a month. But I make sure that I have a spot for rewearing some clothes and I make sure I toss the dirty ones in the hamper. No excuse. But once bedroom looks good and organized I sleep better and wake up refreshed. For sheets I change them every 10 days and they always smell amazing. I’m glad to say I learned this on my own and makes me happy

I think it took me almost a year to completely unpack the kitchen! It can be overwhelming. And, just like with everything else it helps to start small. Empty only one box. And if that’s too much, open only one box and look inside! Or, I just sit and look at the (mess, boxes, laundry), for 2 minutes. If I’m motivated to do more, great! If not at least I focused on it for 2 minutes.☺️

Emotions most definitely play a huge role in my messy home. I suffer from depression as well as chronic illness. I feel worthless that I am physically unable to keep my home clean. I’m considering bringing in a house keeper once a month, but I have to address the clutter issues first before they can even clean my home. It is such a helpless, defeated feeling. You have made a series of small steps that seem do-able. You address our frustration and our self esteem at the same time. You are so easy to relate to, and it feels like I’m talking to a friend. My sistah from anotha mistah! A long time ago when I was feeling completely overwhelmed because of the state of my home, I wrote out a “perfect day” scenario for myself and then broke it down into segments to transform my day-to-day living…working on each bullet point until I had a much more serene space to exist. The first thing on the list was “Wake up to a clean bedroom.” Now first thing in the morning I take at least five minutes to reset the room…(i didn’t know that was what it was called) … and my day is just … BETTER! Thanks for all the tips! Truly appreciate them! As for the blanket practice…definitely need a snuggly blanket and I try not to think about closets or mirrors as I go to sleep…so you’re not the only one with leftover childhood angst. Even the prayers as a child…’If I should die before I wake…’ Why do our parents teach us this!?! 😜 Fortunately, I fall asleep quickly after my nightly convo with the Good Lord and I wake up to my lovely bedroom… Definitely a fabu practice! The problem is I physically don’t have the ability to do the real cleaning I HAVE to do. (Side track🤦🏻‍♀️) anyway, my craft room is my heaven now and I NEED HELP! I have been blessed to have this incredibly large space with built ins and work space but it is so over taken! If you ever need someone to open up their vulnerable self to figure this out I am willing to throw myself out there to get help figuring out why I can’t organize this special spot and how to do it. I need help and my days are sometimes physically limited but other days I feel like I can kick everything to the curb and handle whatever comes my way. HELP! Oh, I want the covers too and I think it’s just so I can complain that I was so hot without admitting it was a hot flash🤷‍♀️🤣

You're definitely not alone about the blanket thing! 😄 I finally declutter my bedroom after using it my whole life as a catch all room. It felt SO good. We've moved recently and I'm still working to get it clutter free again, but I'm getting closer. I have never gone sofar as having it decorated or beautiful, but clean and neat are really important. I'm starting in our new house to "decorate" our company spaces first (buying furniture that coordinates, rather than the cheapest option that works, etc) and it's going to make a big difference. ♥️

@@songbird3094 have you read a book "eat that frog" ? If not, it might help you to get motivated a bit. And for depression, have you try Choline? I have depression but to a point where Im ready to take another prescription. So that supplement helps me a lot. Just find the right dose for you. Our depression is what keeps us from get up and go, as our body already pushed to the limits. Every depression has a root, even if dr says it is chemical unbalanced...nope, I think it is more than that. I actually feel even more better on the days when I get time to read a book. It is very hard to focus on reading when we are in deep stage of it. But then I tell myself just 5 pages, and if any thoughts want to stand between me and my reading I "cancel " my thoughts, I say to myself Im in control of my thoughts, my thoughts just a monkey who is misbehave and I can turn off those monkeys. And it is good to talk to anyone you can trust about your feeling, people in our society so afraid to talk about how they truly feel about what bothering them. If you can, go to thrift store and find nice looking, elegant china cup and plate (I often find them there, I live in place where lots of old people live, so I think they bring it there what they have been collecting for years) and have you coffee or tea in that nice looking dish. Cas, I'm writing from my husband's profile, but I just want to say I appreciate you so much. This video really changed my mindset. I hate about 95% of my bedroom. Our bed frame, mattress, side tables, and dresser are five years old purchased off FB Marketplace...the bed frame is completely broken, and the mattress does nothing but give me insane back pain, causing me to toss and turn all night and wake up with a ridonkulously sore back. Our sheets are worn, the pillows are from our wedding thirteen years ago, and the duvet has all of the batting bunched up in all the weird places. We have so much stuff stored in here that laughs at me as I go to sleep, causes me nightmares, and "greets" me every morning when I wake up. My husband's office space is in here...along with tons of extra hardware that doesn't get used but sits on the floor and gathers dust. I HATE BEING IN HERE! I always focus on the rest of the house, so this gives me permission to really sit down and think how I can rework and reset my bedroom to get a completely new me. Thank you!

Hi Cas!!!💜 Making my bed sets the tone for my day, starting off right 💜 Also, if your bedroom is cluttered, chances are, you aren't sleeping as well as you could. Clutter in the bedroom makes for a busy mind for me, less quality sleep. Investing in quality sheets really does make a difference. I prefer cotton sheets, especially for summer. The are crisp and breathable. I don't like microfiber, it's polyester, and polyester doesn't breath (making you sweat). The sheets you recommend a few months back, are great quality! Thanks for another fantastic video! Have a great week! 💜

You are NOT alone in the heavy blanket department. I also HAVE to have my whole body covered to fall asleep. And I have also wondered if it's a childhood trauma thing. When I was around 6 or 7 our house was broken into and I actually saw the person's outline twice but was too young to put the pieces together. And then when I was 9-10ish my older sister was watching Halloween and I watched with her. Should not have done that. My dad's punishment was to wear one of his work coveralls and a Michael Myers mask WITH a kitchen knife and stand outside my window at night looking at me. Which brings me to my adult sized fear of the dark as well. Lol. I am all kinds of messed up. Anyway, I love your channel so so much! Yes, bedroom is THE place to start cleaning. It actually makes sense if you think about it. As for the end story, weighted blankets are a great choice for other reasons, not just Freddie. I swear, Cass, we are long-lost sisters, or at least cousins, with your ADD and my undiagnosed neurdivergency getting us into all kinds of avoidable situations... So here's a tip: Crappy Childhood Fairy-> free tools-> the daily practice. Essentially, you put your fears and resentment on the paper in order to release them from your mind and vice versa and to address them later, in a more suitable environment/situation. If you are a Harry Potter fan, it's kind of like Dumbledore's pensieve.

Total light bulb moment! You described my messy bedroom situation perfectly!! Definitely need to grow up and make it a priority!! And yes to heavy blankets in summer, and Freddy or similar hiding under my bed ready to grab my ankle!! I do usually risk it and leave at least one foot out. 🥺😮😴🤣

Also, what was it about parenting in the 80s?? We would sit around as a family and watch Elm Street movies with pizza!! I was 8-10 ish. And it's not like we happened to find it on TV. No, we had to have gone specifically to the video rental place and chose the movie together...? I just can't imagine doing that with my kids. My 17 year old son and I watched Sing 2 on the weekend, that's more our jam!! 😊

This is brilliant! I recently returned to my home after an extended time away. I wanted to give the bedroom a deep clean immediately. I found myself, doing every other room first! This day that ends! Thank you!

I'm 73 yrs old and I have knees that need to be replaced, so cleaning is harder. Now I wish I could clean like mad with all this time I have! So "being able" to clean is a gift!! I love it when my apartment is clean!!

Oh my goodness! I actually did this and made my bedroom a sanctuary, before I even saw this video! But now I will begin the next step of maintaining my home for me, not with the root of bitterness and resentment against my family. I'm currently still dealing with chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome!), but changing my perspective will help alot. Thank you Cass, I'm so glad I found you! And BTW, I have that same irrational fear of sleeping with my leg outside the covers because of that "boogie man" under the we bed! 😆 God bless you!

I love that you started with talking about your bedroom- I always have to make my bed as soon as I get up otherwise it will bother me and just the simple act of making my bed sets my day right and at night when I get ready to go to bed I love coming to a clean and beautiful bedroom. The rest of the house might be untidy but if the bedroom is good then I don’t feel too stressed about it. Also, I think it is why I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.
