Alabama divorce attorney here. One party files for the divorce, and they serve the other party. If they can’t find the other party, generally speaking, that filing party can publish notice of the divorce in a news publication. A trial date is set, and there is either a trial, settlement, or default. Regardless, in this state, you cannot make a person stay married to you. All in all, if it’s contested, that’s a 6-18 months long process- TOPS. If both parties agree, they can be divorced in 30-45 days from filing. They want to be married. *This is not legal advice.
