Here we show the incredible smoothness and detail that can be laser engraved to a glass tumbler using a Lotus Laser Systems Meta-C 5w UV laser incorporating 3-axis beam delivery
The smoothness and the brightness of this mark is outstanding. If you look at the (R) symbol you can see a crisp and clear hairline that is only 700um wide.
The depth of this mark is approx 200um, making it similar to a chemical etch or a shot blast engraving but with better detail and none of the mess or hassles of the conventional engraving process
The 3-axis beam delivery system holds focus by mapping the 2d artwork to a 3d model of the object then dynamically adjusting the focal point as it contacts the object surface.
This example is particularly challenging because the glass has no flat surfaces. It's therefore not possible to produce a mark at this size using a conventional rotary device
