Two years ago, I reached out to Lotus Laser seeking information and guidance, and I was thoroughly impressed by their prompt willingness to help me. Even though plans changed on my end and I decided to hire a third-party company for our laser engraving needs, the helpfulness and professionalism of the Lotus Laser team left a lasting impression. I am not a Lotus Laser customer yet, but having such a positive experience without being an actual customer makes me feel confident in their capabilities and quality, and I am compelled to purchase one of their systems in the future.

@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 8 ай бұрын
Not with this machine. It is designed to mark in tiled areas. For halftone marking over large areas you need DFGL technology like our MetaD, which as standard can mark 800x800 but to special order can mark up to 1.2x1.2m. MetaD will mark halftone images perfectly at this size and in very fast speeds, much faster than any plotter type laser machine. Please contact us via our web site if you have further queries about MetaD

Hi there, Is there any tips you're using to achieve such a result ? Specifically the fact that you're marking the wood more than you're engraving it. Is that a DC laser source feature ? Or a special settings set up ? Thanks for your reply. G.
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your enquiry. This system is using a DC laser. A good result like this depends on a combination of all of the following: a high quality and well tuned laser + a near perfectly assembled motion control + expert set-up and configuration. You need a decent halftone image too. If the laser is not good you will see inconsistent shapes to the halftone and variations in shade that should not be there - in particular at the edges of the image. If you have visible banding this is usually a problem with the motion system. If your hardware and laser are set-up well and you still get bad results then it'll be bad software configuration. Note also that with a DC laser speed is relative to quality i.e. faster = lower quality

Will a UV cut through the leather as fast as a fiber or slower and cleaner?
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser Жыл бұрын
Fiber is not good for cutting leather. Usually a CO2 laser is used but with CO2 there is a lot of heat damage. UV creates a much cleaner cut with far superior detail, however, it's only good for the scan area of the lens (150mm) so UV is definitely the way to go if you want to cut small sized, high quality, high detail parts

What are your settings for the PU leather?
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser Жыл бұрын
The settings that we use will be specific to our system config. Basically, you need high speed (approx 1.5m/s), low PRF like 5kHz and low power - start with the lowest power that you laser can deliver with stability and adjust upwards. If this is your core app then you'll get a much better result using a UV (355nm) laser

Nice. So the galvo UV worked better on the outside of the glass but in one of your other videos, the (C1) C02 worked great for nucleating the bottom of the glass for beer. Am I correct?
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ross, yes, for nucleation there is no need to use a UV laser. An advantage of the CO2 for nucleation is the size of the spot. Normally, it's the opposite i.e. the bigger spot is a disadvantage. But you can nucleate the glass with a UV. If you only want to nucleate glass I'd say go for a CO2. If you want to engrave and nucleate then go UV.

How well can a UV laser engrave other types of wood, Hard vs Soft? as well how deep can a UV laser engrave into wood. And last questions for you is there anything stopping you from running the piece back under the same path to engrave deeper?
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
depth relates to the intensity (power, spot size, etc) and the exposure time ; it's controllable and with UV you can achieve similar depths to that of other wavelengths but with higher quality. The trade-off is the time as a UV will be slower than a CO2. You can pass multiple times to achieve the depth but generally a single pass at a slower speed is often a better technique
@northern_hd
@northern_hd 2 жыл бұрын
isn't that a fiber laser? Not CO2
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
In most cases we would recommend to use a 60w fiber laser for this application, however, the purpose of this video was to show that in some cases a CO2 laser at 10.6µm can be used if the product is suitable in terms of material make-up. So to answer your question; this video shows a CO2 laser marking the mug.

What were your speed and power settings for making the black mark. I know all lasers vary but I am trying to find a good starting point to run tests
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
This is an impossible question to answer accurately unless we know the precise configuration of your machine. A MOPA laser will produce a superior result without foaming. Generally speaking you want to use a speed of 2m/s, low pulse width (high peak power - low pulse energy) matched with the relevant PRFO frequency (kHz). Hatch depends on the lens being used but if you have F254 start by trying 0.05mm and if the laser is 20w adjust power upwards in increments from 60% to get darker

@@Lotuslaser Thank you, this helps! I am running a ULS 30 watt Fiber laser with a 2.0" or 4.0" lens
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
@@caleydeannbrunner85 That is not an ideal format for this process. To achieve this effect it's much better to use a galvo laser (MOPA) with an F254 lens. Do you know the laser source? Maybe it is Q-switched? You will need to go very slow like 200mm/s or equivalent, maximum DPI (I think 1,000 for ULS?), I would say use the 2" lens but go out of focus by about 1mm (into the material). Keep focusing in by 0.5mm each time and you should notice it getting darker

Does it actually prints in white colour on top of the black colour or is it just burns the surface and the white colour marking material is already a part of that material.
@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
The pulse of the laser causes a structural reaction within the material that produces a permanent and contrasting mark. This is not a print process. When the material absorbs the laser, minor ablation + colour changing is the outcome.

How do you get the colour? Is it a change in wavelength
@deanlaserite
@deanlaserite 2 жыл бұрын
All lasers have a fixed wavelength Gary. What we change is the pulse width (ns)the pulse frequency (kHz), the average power (%watts), the hatch density (mm) and sometimes also the hatch angle. We are using one set of parameters to remove the very thick powder coating and another to clean and brighten the exposed stainless steel for a better aesthetic. See some if our other video where we use even more variations in the same file to create colours. This is the benefit of using high performance laser tech instead of basic laser tech

@Lotuslaser
@Lotuslaser 2 жыл бұрын
@@garybeaumont543 This isn't really a software only based solution. Firstly, you have to start-out with equipment that's capable of delivering the end result in terms of effect and process time. Not all systems are equal despite what many will claim. Next, the level of support varies massively from one supplier to another. Many will give you just a set of params to plug in to software but these very rarely will work for the more technically challenging apps out there and colour changing s/steel is one of the hardest of all. That's where we come in with a 1-2-1 support resource based on 1st hand experience (know-how). In short, our offering (hardware and support) allows the user to crack on and earn money rather than waste time stabbing in the dark to get what are at best mediocre end results.
