In this video, my coworker and I do head to head comparison between the 36 V Metabo HPT triple hammer impact driver and the full size Ridgid four mode, impact driver to decide which one is more comfortable to use. We ended up with a difference of opinions.

This test was more for me to decide on my personal preference, but I hope somebody else saw something that helps them make a decision also. This is the first time my coworker and I have actually disagreed on which tool we prefer, so that was interesting.

I think the Ridgid four mode will be my go to for larger fasteners, but the triple hammer is fantastic for smaller fasteners.

Great demo ..I have to say both are good deals it just comes down to what plat form had the most tools your going to need or want ......But if you do get the metabo htp Drill look at there all new compact its damn impressive .. But I personally prefer the HTP line because of ergonomics price warranty and Durability and they are so smooth and I am also on there plat for m for the table saw and miter saws

Sounds like you've got the tool bug. That means it won't stop hear at drills. You'll get into saws, Sanders, etc and when that happens you're going to wish you had stuck with one brand to capitalize on the batteries combos. Maybe not, but it's a very common thing to happen

I haven’t heard from you in awhile. How have you been? Anyway, I’ve heard that the Ridgid saws aren’t that good. What’s your opinion? Also, you should check out my other video, because I also tested the Ridgid subcompact. I’m keeping the high torque Ridgid combo and the subcompact combo. I also exchanged the high torque combo because of the impact driver cutting out. I’m going to test the new one Monday.

@@DiligentDave1966I have the Ridgid brushless one handed recip saw and I like it a lot. I also have the M18 Fuel version and I like the Rigid better. It’s a little smaller, lighter, and better balanced than the Milwaukee saw but performs just as good. I’ve never put them head to head but for most of the cutting that I do the Rigid works great. When I need a more robust recip saw for heavy duty projects I’ll break out my Metabo HPT 36 V recip saw or the Flex recip saw. Both of those saws are the best for heavy duty work, but for medium to light duty jobs I really like the Ridgid brushless one handed recip saw.

I can’t speak for the Metabo HPT, since I’ve never tried it and probably never will. I have both the Ridgid subcompact 4-mode impact driver and the full size 4-mode impact driver tested in this video. Here’s my honest take: I like to use both of them in tandem depending on the situation. The Subcompact has very good trigger control on Speed 1 & 2, especially with PH2 bits. If I need the extra muscle, I don’t bother going to Speed 3. I just grab the full size brushless 4-mode and complete the task on Speed 2 or 3, especially when driving long fasteners. For the most part, those longer fasteners are T25 deck screws. I won’t use the full size 4-mode on PH2 bits because I want to avoid cam out at all costs. I’ve never had an issue driving T25 deck screws with the full size 4-mode.

I definitely think I need to exchange the high, torque combo, and retest the four mode impact driver. Hopefully, I get a good impact, driver, and not a defective drill. Lol.

@@DiligentDave1966 I’ve done a few returns over the past year and the High Torque worked perfectly each time, so I’m sure you don’t need to be concerned about that. I imagine it’s just a defective 4-mode. Return the kit and replace with a new kit. When you do, make sure you’re less concerned about the collet wobble this time around and more concerned with performance (meaning no cut out on any of the speeds).
@DiligentDave1966
@DiligentDave1966 7 ай бұрын
@@SouthFLTools Yeah, I noticed the collet wobble doesn’t really affect the driving. The only other issue I had besides the cut out is that a socket adapter got jammed in there and didn’t want to release last night. That has also happened with my Dewalt before, so I wasn’t too worried about it. The subcompact did drop a Phillips bit one time the other night, and I zoomed in on it for the video. That could’ve just been a fluke.

@@DiligentDave1966 the quick insert and quick eject should work the same on both the subcompact and full size 4-mode impact drivers. Keep a close eye on the replacement and test it well, to ensure the problems you previously had on the defective unit are no longer present on the replacement.
@DiligentDave1966
@DiligentDave1966 7 ай бұрын
@@SouthFLTools I didn’t really have a problem with the collet of the four mode. The adapter got jammed in there because we were using it to drive some structural screws at top speed. The force caused the socket adapter to spin very slightly in the col and get jammed. It’s happened several times with my Dewalt. He just put the impact driver in reverse Put the socket on the head of the screw, and taped the trigger. As for dropping the, that was the the subcompact.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the grease coming out of the collet same thing happened on my Milwaukee when I first got it 2yrs ago and it happened fairly early into owning it not sure either of it was “properly” lubricated or just an overheating issue which I doubt since I did not use it too hard but haven’t had a single issue with it so 🤷🏽‍♂️
@DiligentDave1966
@DiligentDave1966 7 ай бұрын
I just figured that maybe it’s actually really well lubricated. That impact driver never got warm during any of my tests.

I don't have neither of these, but not to confuse you, I have the Milwaukee M12 Fuel 2553-20. I think you would love it, as long as you don't feel the grip uncomfortable. It has bested many 18V impact drivers, and is very balanced to hold. It is without question currently the fastest 12V impact driver ever produced.

I heard the M12 fuel gets hot pretty fast. I noticed the full size 4 mode Ridgid got pretty warm, but the subcompact version get as warm. I didn’t try driving structural screws with the subcompact, though.

@@DiligentDave1966 Yes, I have read that also. Chances are It’s because of the compact size. But I feel it is very comfortable to use. I don’t think I have seen any instances where it cut off though because of heat, but of course YMMV.
