When he says "This is what tripping is like" he definitely aint wrong; the kind of trip you might have took a LITTLE too much. Also, I can't say that this necessarily feels like novelty so much as her not picking a lane. I think you can mix genre to an extent, but imho her angle is overly ambitious. 70% of her song can sound great, but there will be that 30% that leaves you confused. I think you REALLY have to like all the weird genres that she hops around in during a single song to get the most out of listening to her music. Poppy definitely isn't someone I can listen to lots of, but I can't say I 100% hate her music either. It's different at the very least :P Nice review :)

I know I am coming in late. 57yr old rock/metal guitarist here. "I Disagree" was my first exposure to Poppy. Loved her diversity and genre bending right from the start. She is a creative and expressive artist that cutely and brutally gives the middle finger to the Music Industry as well as the establishment through her music ("I Disagree" is the perfect example of this). Since, as a musician and artist myself, I believe music is a form of personal expression and she gets an A+ in my book. And cudos for her doing her and not bowing to the control of the industry. Her Grammy performance of "Eat" blew me away.

You guys should check Concrete, I Disagree and Bloodmoney, her most recent songs.

Sit/stay is like a combination of The Prodigy, late 90s Marilyn Manson, and a sprinkle of Nine Inch Nails. It’s an amazingly well put together song and I know y’all will at least appreciate it, even though it’s more on the side of industrial than metal.

This blues musician who is much more than a blues artist is attracting many hard rock and metalheads as well as the old school country & western and folk music fans to her live shows. Seeing people with Willie Nelson Tshirts with Primus and Metallica Tshirts and Rolling Stone Tshirts and other rock, metal and country Tshirts at a Samantha Fish concert is very normal. Many musicians are praising her music as well and she is doing very well in music sales. But unfortunately a large majority of her fan base is 40 and over with very little of her fan base 30 and under, especially the under 20 and preteen people. "I Disagree" is a bombshell of a piece you should give a listen to. BTW, I'm a metalhead of 39 years and a musician of 38 years with plenty of theory under my belt, spanning from symphonic experience and jazz to playing progressive and math metal.
