Everybody has their own tools they feel comfortable with. Here's a quick look at the digging tools I'm using, plus a couple of modifications.

Great review, just what I needed. We don't have those stores here in the UK but at least I know what to look for now. It's just finding something of a good strong quality, that isn't too heavy.

I use a Jackson J-250 Trenching shovel (5 inch wide). The best metal detecting shovel I've ever used!

Enjoyed that info, thanks. I used a drain spade at BellSouth for work, hated it. I've been looking all over for a serrated-blade Sampson like your blue one you dislike because where I live, we have Bermuda grass and subsurface tree roots that are a pain to dig through! Even sharpened-edge shovels don't cut through on the first cut most of the time.

dah .... never thought of cutting the extra length! thanks. I too use an entrenching tool! Mine is more like the first you had that is hard to get your foot on so I use one side but it eventually the corner of it eats a hole into my shoe!! I will be looking for a new one like the one you have and customizing the blade and handle! Again thank you!

Just got home with the Kobalt shovel from Lows. Going to leave it pointed for now. But will sharpen it with my angle grinder. Thanks for the tip.

Bought a Razor back. I shortened like you said but was able to get the grip off by using a hacksaw blade to shove all the way up and loosen it.

those fiberglass and wooden handles break when you have to encounter tree roots
@aliasfred7 жыл бұрын
I buy the trencher shovels with wooden handle because when I shortened the handle it won't shatter where ya cut it. Fiberglass has a tendency to become weakened when you cut it. I have been using my "Trencher" for over 10 years and have never broken the handle, only have to replace the rivet, with a bolt, where the handle goes into the blade.

jUST WAIT.. THEY WON'T LET YOU PATENT YOOUR SHOVELS .. THEY DID THAT TO MY DAD WHEN HE CREATED HIS METAL HEAD GOLF CLUBS BACK IN LATE 70'S AND EARLY 80'S.. I have them Mounted and hanging on top of the Fireplace with his WWII US NAVY Picture and Medals as a CPO..Died at age 87...

Just watched this now, and loved your video! Gave you a sub too. 😁 I have been struggling with finding a decent, inexpensive digging shovel for metal detdetecting cting in the bush and fields etc. I watched The Chigg’s videos, and also had him show me his shovel in person recently when he was here at our house. I have yet been able to find it locally. Bummer. I would really like one of those black ones like the one that you indicated that you liked. Aquachigger let me interview him, it was a great visit. Check out my channel if you would like.
