Hi Gary, the fact that the controller can be removed and I can have it on my knee in my electric powerchair is the very reason that we ended up with the XP Deus 2. There is no other detector available that allows Wendy and myself to detect in this way, and it is a massive coupe for XP Metal detectors really because they can be used like that for a disabled person and their carer, although we are of the opinion that XP detectors don't realise what a game changer that it is for people like me that have been detecting for 50 years and were desperate to get back into metal detecting in some way. Even the NCMD have now acknowledged disabled folk , I contacted them over a year ago about membership for the disabled and they had never really considered it previously, and they said they would contact the insurance underwriters and see what they could do, and they have now reached an agreement that the disabled person is the NCMD member and the carer, in my case Wendy is also covered under the same membership. They now even mention disabled people in their literature, so if the NCMD can acknowledge disabled people, then XP could as well. 🙂🙂

To those folks who do not dig anything below a 50 TID (Target Identification), I thank you. I have found numerous gold rings which ring up in the mid 40s which were left behind.

Hey Gary thank you! I prefer to not look at my numbers. It makes it easier to hear the good targets. When I'm about to dig I look at the numbers to try and guess what I'm digging up.

I always go by tones, my favorite thing is when I find something good with friends and they are so fixated on what vdi it rang up, how deep did it say it was, etc. They get mad when I tell them I don't look at the vdi, I just go for the good tones. 🤷🤷

That's why I love the deus, I can hike thru the woods and use full tones, and don't have to worry about the remote or looking at numbers

The Deus 2 is my first XP machine. I had heard that XP places a high priority on their audio technology and therefore, set out to learn the machine with audio only. I have about 3 months into this amazing machine and do not know any common target id's 🤣. Upon starting the machine and performing the initial setup or the occasional adjustment midstream, the remote stays zipped up in my pocket. My target acquisition and trash to treasure ratio is better than any of my other machines.

Aber es hat den Vorteil das man relativ langsam läuft und sich absolut auf die Töne konzentriert. Nicht nur das Gehör sondern auch das Auge gewöhnt sich schnell an die Nacht. Für mich ist es auch ein Training für den Körper. Am Anfang hatte ich Gleichgewichtsstörungen in der absoluten Dunkelheit was aber mit der zeit verschwindet. Es ist ein Erlebnis 😅

I think, using full tones there really is not a need for having a VDI but with pitch tones, which is amazing, I find that is an awesome secondary tool and can give some awesome additional info. Metal detecting is and always will be a game of odds/chance. You still will not always be able to identify what the target may be, especially out of parks. The thrill of the hunt and what lies underneath. XP gives you GREAT odds.

Gary I’ve learned log ago that audio is the key. I only look at the display once I’m interested in what I’m hearing. And again I’ll say the Deus 2 is the best detector I’ve ever run in the iron. I go after the iron heavy sites in the California gold rush sites.

It’s great to have the choice to use the machine which ever way we prefer to have it set up. Nothing wrong with using the display but it’s superb without it too. Personally I prefer audio only so I’ve been detecting without the controller on the D2 stem for over a year. I find it’s far lighter and more balanced, and find it more relaxing too. Friends of mine prefer to see the display so they use it with the box attached. Everyone’s happy which is all that matters.

Hi Gary, I mostly detect by sound. A meter is nice to check VDI but I don’t look at the display often. My friends are tied to their displays and maybe that’s why I find more than them. Good video that people need to watch…John

After most of a year running the d2 with sound only and occasional screen glances, I can tell what most targets are. I never have had the remote on the shaft. 😊

Hey Gary, guess a lot of people still remember the Times, when we even didn't have a Meter or a Display! I still use my Hearing as a main reference System, and the Display as a second... Especially, when you're searching at Nighttime in Stealth Mode, you can't use a Display with Backlight at all 😂

I find old worn silver coins that come up way under their normal ID I dig all the solid tones

I think XP has designed the best meter out there, both build quality and ease of use and navigation, It seems a shame to remove it, but I do occasionally for the reasons you state Gaz. 😉

Hi Gary I’m in the US camping this weekend on a riverbank campground with my xp deus detector it’s really tough here I get a 87 ,88 it’s a can . I get a 89,90 it’s a can about 5 inches down . So really if you don’t dig the good signals you don’t know what hat you will get

Hi, why don't XP metal detectors use mixed mode/dual mode in their detectors? I think this feature would increase the detection capabilities of their products. If someone doesn't like a lot of information, they can always turn off this feature, as in RUTUS detectors. I hope it will be added in the next updates. PS If we have the mixed mode opportunity, we don't need pinpoint.

Audio only works best on 5 tones with breaks splitting dodgy targets ...so you get a warble of two tones on alot of junk

very good i been useing the deus lite with the xp deus 1with the elliptical coil.hhot prog 71 khz i do have the contro box but this year i decided to not use it on the parks where i hunt. its been the best year for finds. ive had goId rings and so many coins makes such aa big diffrence to have sound onIy totaIy bIown away

This is why I just ordered the w6 master. I just want the d2 for iron infested old homesites, and with the Tekkna program I think it will work great as an audio only machine. With tons of iron the ID numbers are so thrown off theres no real reason to look at them. Thats my hope anyway.
