This game was surprisingly good, from what I've noticed, a lot of people have only explored the Afghanistan area of the game, and the first map of the game in general, instead of actually exploring more, and completing a lot of the missions, until you get to the better parts of the game, I strongly believe people just hate the game, just because it's not Metal Gear Solid, thought provoking codec calls, spy stuff, and the character's stamina doesn't run out really fast, that only happens when you're in the Dust, since the atmosphere makes it harder to breathe, hence making stamina run out fast, this game is nothing like MGS 5, it actually lets you start from nothing, and gradually build up something of a base, you can craft, upgrade, and even farm food, as well as catch rain water to drink, which is realistic in a survival setting, this game is pretty good, and frankly it doesn't deserve the rep it's gotten from reviewers and gamers alike, because it's pretty fun, and trippy, maybe not strong as far as story goes, but the gameplay, and adventure is certainly there, also if you're just starting out in the game, you will want for the area to be barren, if you want to get supplies, because those monsters are relentless in killing you, once you go into the dust, outside of the safe zone, ya know, the barren wasteland? This game's pretty interesting, and well worth the price, because it's certainly quite long for a game, I'm currently on the second map in the game, and I like it so far, and the cut scenes are surprisingly good. Set aside the Kojima / Konami drama, and let this game determine if you like it or not, you know how the saying goes, " Don't judge a book by its cover " especially when you're just watching biased reviews from other KZfaqrs who are still in the beginning of the game in their reviews. Lol

Thanks for this show, it's very useful to look at a game before you decide! I can't call myself a true Metal Gear fan, since I haven't played the best games according to people, 2, 3, 4 and all the portable ones, but I played 1 and 5 and I enjoyed them. I really liked Metal Gear 5 for the gameplay, and I also like the setting, that "Everything for the Boss"-mentality and the salutes and all, love it. I'll probably buy this, but I'll wait a little while!

Yeah, it *does* get better when you get into it a bit. I for one did not mind running around looking for food, because that's just par for the course when it comes to survival game and I knew this well before buying it. And I don't know about you guys, but I actually liked to wander the vast, imposing world clinging on to the hope that I would find something to let me stay alive. Fighting against entropy is what survival is all about and I certainly felt like I was persevering through it. Then when I got to the point where I could stay alive easier because I learned how to make farms and better foods and understood what you can eat, like gerbils and berries, then it felt rewarding. I felt like nothing had been handed to me and isn't that what survival is about? Oh and one more thing, please, ignore the vast majority who keeps claiming that you're just standing behind a fence poking at zombies. That just isn't true. There's actually more CQC moves than in MGS5 and there's multiple weapons classes, classes, and firearms too, with gadgets like molotovs, decoys, and mannable turrets to help you out. Only time I ever needed to defend with a fence was during digs, teleporter activations, or the few base defense missions. Not sure why people keep forgetting that.

I really love Jake's reviews. I do think though that he could have been more critical here especially on the save slot microtransaction. That is one of the most blatant attempts at pulling extra money out of the buyer who's already paid sixty dollars! It's a basic gaming function for god's sake.

I really appreciated it after learning they wouldn't hold your hand. Following the lights and forcing you to actually remember landmarks was a huge seller for me. I enjoy a survival game set in the Fox Engine.

Congratulations on a very honest review. Nevertheless I don't intend to buy this game. The microtransations and number of things locked behind a paywall on this game really put me off, like extra character save slots for $10, extra storage capacity for $5, extra 4 lodouts slots for $3 each (you have 4 already so no biggie here, I think), extra 4 team gathering slots for $10 (the game gives you one free slot and some rare resources are only gathered by theese bots so this is one is a biggie since if you want all the extras teams you have to pay $40!!), plus this game is a asset flip so it should have a lower price. Too much greed on the developers side. Personaly the game looks ugly and and has an akward physics system, at least in all the videos that I saw.

So, if the game is stoy focused, then why the fuck does it require internet?!

I feel this game would be doing a lot better if Konami has just named it something else and left the only ties between this game and Metal gear being the Fox engine. As is they tried to exploit the Metal gear name and it backfired hard.

Appreciate the unbiased review as always gameranx! But us gamers have too much loyalty to Kojima to support this. We understand people and companies go their separate ways, but not letting him accept an award for the last entry in his series? That was fucked up and they need to be punished for that. Gaming companies are getting too bold these days and we gamers need to take a stand. And that means treating our developers with some damn respect! Hideo Kojima has given us some of the best games in gaming history and needs to be treated as such!

My uncle and I played it, we enjoyed it like a watered-down Minecraft and that is it. I understand why people don't like it I mean paying for save slots is stupid, but this is the first ps4 game we bought. So if people don't like it then don't buy it. As for me I'll be playing the hell out of this game.

Of course this game was going to be bad

From the very beginning, I thought it looked like a decent game. However, I'm still upset that it's taking place in the Metal Gear Universe. I'm curious as to whether or not there's a clause that states that the Fox Engine can only be used for Metal Gear games, and if that's the case, it's a damn shame because that program is incredible.

Despite what alot of metal gear fans feel about this game, it's actually well done and not half assed. The story is meh, but I LOVE the zombie variants and the weapons. Plus the goooore. Oh my Gawd the gooore. Basically if you bought this expecting a metal gear game, you fucked up. If you bought this for a zombie survival game or just to give it a try you probably felt more satisfied. With that said, I got it on sale for 27$ and that definitely helps, but if I had paid 40$ for the game I wouldn't have felt too bad about it. Despite what gameranx says about the somewhat clunky combat, it is just as clunky as CQC in metal gear online, but with more melee capabilities. Overall while this game is definitely not a metal gear game story wise, controls and mechanics wise it is. So I'd have to say with what Konami was trying to achieve they actually did really good. They didn't half ass everything like I would have expected them to, I was very surprised how much actual work they put into it. Granted it is a re-work of a copy and pasted two maps, but they still achieved making it feel different with the dust obscuring your vision and debris blocking some paths. The microtransactions are there and the whole slave slot purchase is scummy, but other than that the rest of the things you can buy are just for rich kids to get through the game quicker with better stuff. Singleplayer is hard, fun, and tense while being very unforgiving, but gives you that dark souls sort of "Whew fucking shit dude! I made it!" feeling of finding a bonfire after a long journey; though the bonfire in MG survive has to be defended first making it even more hard. So it's a good game, if you're undecided wait until it is on deep sale or try the free play days on xbox gold right now. If you made it this far and read everything well done, you are not an illiterate sheep who just skips to the last sentence expecting to learn something.

Not sure how I feel about the story mode although it has depth and interesting mechanics, the hunger and thirst features are really annoying but the injury aspects are really cool and they take me back to MGS3 which was a bit nostalgic.

Hope they (konami) are very ashamed of that poor excuse of a metal gear game and I honestly hope Kojima-san had a great laugh (probably followed by a tear because they destroyed his beloved franchise).
