I agree, but master of puppets is by no means an easy song to play. The thing that really makes it difficult is the fact that it is played at a very high tempo (210-220 bpm I think) while all down picking. It took me quite a while to learn to play it confidently, mostly because i started learning it after only two weeks of starting guitar lessons. Yeah I know, bad idea for a beginner.

If the main criteria for difficulty in both fingering and speed, then Neon by John Mayer deserves a spot on any top ten hardest songs list. Watch mojo: The Smiths make difficult music. Necrophagist: Hold my metronome.
@KaleKellerSalad
@KaleKellerSalad Жыл бұрын
If watch-mojo tried to explain the most basic drum groove they’d say: “First the drummer must lock in their time with everyone else’s in the band, then they must shift their hand from the rested position on their lap to hovering over the high-hat, tapping in the correct time signature after resting their left foot over the petal holding the two cymbals closed, next the drummer must then hit the bass drum on certain upbeats or downbeats within the time signature sequence, this is done with a petal operated by their right foot, the last thing the drummer must focus on is hitting the snare drum on proper upbeats or downbeats within the proper time signature sequence, this is done with the left hand, and all of these steps combined create a basic drum pattern that flow with the sway of the band, thus locking in a strong backbone to rely on” That’s it, that’s as complicated as I can explain how a drum pattern is done and gave no doubt that’s how watch-mojo would explain it just to make themselves sound smart smh

It depends. Some of the fingerings of sus chords require more fingerings, and stretching your hand across more frets. But other times you actually remove a finger and play open strings. It depends on the chord really. I have never had an issue with most sus chords though. But sus chords aren’t inherently more difficult to play than major or minor chord. I think mojo.com is describing sus chords as more difficult to play because they think sus chords are a more exotic chord than a major or a minor. The use of a sus chord in a song doesn’t mean it’s harder to play. It might be more sophisticated as a song though. But that’s not about technique of guitar playing. That’s about songwriting. Some songs are more sophisticated while others stick to the same basic chords in their structure. And the same with time signatures. Once you know how to count time signatures then it’s not hard to play in those it e signatures. Mojo again is confusing the use of a time signature in a song versus the difficulty of playing in a time Singnature. 4/4 is much more common than 7/8 from a songwriting perspective. But just because it’s used less often doesn’t make it harder to play.

Our band actually covers This Charming Man, and the ONLY slight bump in difficulty is the time signature on the intro. Tab probably has it in 8/8 with a rest on 1, but what you hear sounds more like 15/8. So...if you can count to 15, you can play it.

@@JulioLeonFandinho That is why most metal bands are stuck in a niche for "purists" while other bands move forward. Take bands like Gojira and see how their technique is less about showing off and more about textures. Most metal guitarists I know had that moment when they felt a new world opening to them when they were already pretty good and tried to play something different. Their surprise was "This should have been simple. Why am I not doing this the right way?" That is because some styles are not about speed, but about how to add something to the song, and that is being implemented in metal more often
