I had just run across the girls a couple days prior, watched every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) when I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I swore I had no idea it could get any more amazing than what I had already listened to.

I feel you... I am also new to this band, i guess since Tuesday? I heard every song, watched some interviews with subtitles and i purchased an shirt from their merch in Japan (Coming End of June)! I listened a really long time just DnB, because i couldn´t stand that Metal anymore, but this is just too good, they are rocking... I go to a liveshow for sure! My musicstyle changed again just because of them, sometimes the recommendations are really good, i was looking for good music :)

It was interesting to hear your thoughts on Onset and the addition of vocals. To be honest that had never occurred to me, like you I heard vocals of a kind in my head, but in my head it was the 'instruments' singing - hope that doesn't sound weird. I believe Band Maid have several all instrumental tracks that they can draw from and add to their play list when performing live in order to give Saiki's voice a rest. I believe Onset has also been playfully dubbed 'Saiki's Pee Break' by some in the Band Maid community. Miku will also sing lead vocals in at least one song during a live performance, again I believe to give Saiki's voice a rest (although it could be because Miku has a really good voice and just loves to sing at any opportunity), there are several tracks she can draw from, I believe these to be 'Summertime', 'Big Dad', 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Rock in me' - there may be others.

I have listened to this song many times, Akane is the superstar, just listen to her throughout the song. Metal huh, You need to checkout Lovebites, Shadowmaker is a good start. Warning it's Japanese ladies playing guitars! If your real brave Babymetal the most popular and awarded Japanese band in the world. You can start early with Karate or more current Pa Pa Ya. FYI the girls are 22 and 20 today, this is the 10th anniversary year for Babymetal, you can do the math. Sold-out the LA Forum in 2019!
@outwest1014
@outwest1014 4 жыл бұрын
@Jay Bee Well, I think Pa Pa Ya is one of their best new songs, that's why. I'm curious is it the Asian Kawiiband or the Western Kaiiband you are referring too? I am not sure what tiny slot you are trying put Babymetal into or what expertise you have to label any of their music. The Babymetal team has talent and professionalism in depth and are successful on an international scale. Too many fail to realize it's not just Su and Moa. Everyone is allowed their own opinion, but everyone is also allowed to ignore it.
@ANDOR-
@ANDOR- 4 жыл бұрын
@Jay Bee I think he asked if you meant the original Kami Band or the strange new US Kami Band (which I hope only existed because of the length of the US tour and the colliding dates from the original band members' other commitments) with your "4 best metal musicians in the world" comment. Which I wholeheartedly agree on that the "normal" one oozes talent (BOH, Leda, Hideki and Takayoshi and of course Mikio until his death are some of the best musicians out there). And they completely went away from showcasing them. What's with these stupid masks and them standing all the way in the back of the stage so that no one can see them? If Babymetal would be the most popular band in Japan, every single would be #1 on their charts. They have a really strong and passionate fanbase, but most Japanese people just can't get behind Metal or Hard Rock. They like X Japan, B'z and stuff because they're 30 years in the business. I think Babymetal is still a minimum of 2 albums away from starting to get there. And who knows if that happens with them being female artists in Japan. That's also why a super awesomely talented band like Band-Maid still plays their DVD concerts at Zepp Tokyo with 5k people in the audience (which are in my opinion the better concerts anyway). The general Japanese audience simply like what they know and need a lot of time to warm up to something new. I agree with you on the points that Moa (and Yui, when she was in the Band) should have definitely more parts, especially instead of all the collaborations on Metal Galaxy. She can really really sing, why not utilize it? She should sing at least one verse in The One, with it being THEIR anthem, not Su's anthem alone (don't get me wrong, I think Su's a once in a generation talent, but they are still a group and not a single singer). The song with Joakim Broden is just a filler, I think because he wanted to play with them and they didn't really know what to do with him because Sabaton's music isn't (imo) something Babymetal could pull off seriously. I personally don't want them to try, to be honest. I don't really know what Da da Dance is supposed to be like. Pa Pa Ya! is a pretty cool live song for the audience to really go off, so I don't really have anything against it, except that it would be much better without the one minute rap intermission. To the point of them not being in the videos, I think it's because of the story they're trying to tell about the chosen seven and all that. Don't know if it's really necessary to that degree, but the videos are pretty well done. Also, they should just officially say that Starlight is a tribute to Mikio. I like the subtleness and all that, but the guy really earned the respect to let everyone know that it's a tribute and he's missed. What really irks me "these days" is that they are still so hung up on the perfection on stage. I know they're having fun and all that, but why not loosen up a litte. The kawaii train has mostly left the station. They are not kids anymore, they are grown up, beautiful women. Moa's 20th birthday concert was so good because they changed stuff in Shine (which was probably my favorite "choreo" they did so far, ever) and Moa sang Headbanger. Su even congratulated her on stage a few songs prior and Moa was allowed to thank her and the audience. They generally focused the show a little bit more on Moa, which I really liked. They also seemed to have more fun with each other in general and not just with the performing part. I think it would have been difficult to pull of more looseness without excluding Yui too much because of her shyness and all that, but Moa is a beast on stage and Su could tell the audience to go paint the venue and they would happily do it during the concert, so why not change stuff up a little. Do something out of the ordinary, let Moa Shine a bit more (hehe... what a bad pun). It's like the Avengers have the same status as Moa in most songs and as a pretty passionate fan of Babymetal myself, that really makes me sad. Sorry for the wall of text, but your post really resonated with me.

I tried to learn the guitar when I was about 14, but I was hopeless. As a growing lad, I found it really difficult to get the fingers of the left hand into position, and sadly gave up without producing anything that sounded remotely musical. The odd thing was, I was in a band. I had no talent or ability, but found myself playing keyboards with a couple of school friends after we kind of invented a song by accident, messing about in the school music room after school. I was on the school's huge double-keyboard organ, and used about six keys in the whole song. The music teachers, unknown to us, enrolled us into a school "arts festival" and we ended up playing our one and only live performance to about 400 people. My mate on the drums (who could at least play the drums) was literally crapping himself before going on, spending about an hour in the toilet. I felt fine until I actually went on stage and looked at all the people, and it felt like a paving slab had fallen over in my stomach. It went OK, even if some scrote had messed around with all the keyboard settings. Luckily I knew the positions of the 50 or so switches on the thing off by heart by them. The only person unhappy was the singer, as we played a three minute song in about two minutes, I reckon, such were our nerves. She said she barely had time to breathe. But at least I can say I've played in front of a crowd.

Love it. Reminds me of a similar song from around the same time. This band Gacharic Spin, in their other formation Doll$Boxx, had a video that I’ve convinced myself was the inspiration to create BandMaid. But GS/DB have keys instead of rhythm (their very latest has all 3), and are very goofy, make maids look like regular street clothes. Don’t let the visuals distract you, they’re are very versatile (to a fault) and seriously good musicians. Here’s onset, no YYZ, no ELP, no it’s guitarist TomoZo’s instrumental description of rush hour traffic on her planet Nicorin (she’s the little Bo peep with the PRS...) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jL5xdZtk15bQkoU.html

Play was also a song originally written by Kanami as an instrumental. As you can relate, the band apparently got its hands on it and wanted catchy type, simplistic lyrics tacked on to it that fans could easily sing to during their live performances. A shame to me as I'm not a fan of that song's vocals, even tho I love the music (and kinda suffer through the vocals to get to the instrumentals lol). (Of course, I love Saiki's vocals in other songs, but in Play, not so much.) I'm glad that Onset remained an instrumental.

@@jtdg5849 I believe the only two that attended an actual "music school" were Akane & Misa. Kanami obviously had formal training, but I've never seen anything where she attended a music school. I've also never seen or heard of any school that Miku may have attended. And as far as Saiki goes, from interviews I've seen, her formal training consisted of going to the bars with her mother as a young girl & singing karaoke, lol. Anyways, please someone correct me if I'm mistaken.
@cembor
@cembor 4 жыл бұрын
@@busser649 Miku has never attended a formal school. When she formed the band she didn't even know how to play guitar. Early videos floating around show her with a guitar but it was more of a prop than anything else. Kanami has been her teacher though for the last several years and based on what I've seen of the new blu-ray Line Cube Shibuya Shinka show she has come a long long way from those early days. A legit, solid rhythm guitarist. Kanami started playing piano at the age of 4 so she's been musical her entire life and picked up guitar in high school so she could make friends and hoped the other girls would think she was cool (her words from a recent interview). She did not attend a music school like Akane and Misa did (where they met). Saiki started in show biz as a model/actress/dancer but wanted to sing. Initially did not have formal training and as a result developed throat polyps requiring surgery. She's never stated it but it is pretty clear that since then she has been taking vocal lessons as her voice has only become stronger with a wider range and better tone and clarity. One thing is clear throughout the band though is the level of dedication and amount of hard work these ladies put into their craft. That much is crystal clear in their performances.

I'm always afraid of coming across as a know-it-all & don't want someone feeling like I'm throwing something back in their face or trying to humiliate them, but simply would like to correct them if I feel they stated something as fact that I'm pretty confident of not being correct & sometimes that's a fine line with people. From what I read in interviews you are absolutely right. Akane and Misa worked as session musicians before Band Maid. They both habe improved a lot since then, but they seem to have a good education in music, and play several instruments. Kanami studied Economy, because her parents wanted her to. After that she was free to follow a career in music. Akane wrote in an interview that Kanami wanted her to learn the double pedal technique, and how difficult it was. When she was good at it Kanami asked her how many bpm she could do, and she said around 170. The next songs Kanami wrote were in 190 bpm with double pedal all over the place. Akane felt obliged to master this and she did. These ladies are really talented, but they are extremely hard workers. Miku and Saiki work with voice trainers and take singing lessons. But I guess without Kanami everything would be different. She is silk on the outside, and Japanese layered steel on the inside. In a good way. She is a rock natural.

How is it possible that reactor channels averaging 2-4K views per channel are reporting 30-plus K views for “Bandmaid”, a group of average-skilled musicians strumming along to recorded music during a live performance? How is it possible that reactor channels averaging 50-80 comments are reporting 500 comments for Bandmaid, containing ridiculous claims for average musicians in maid costumes, who never improvise live and whom multiple eyewitnesses swear are not playing their instruments? Who is “Steve”? Who is being paid to write these HILARIOUS claims ? “..the best rock band of the decade....by a lot.” Hahahahahahaha On a serious note: the people whose money you are taking, by lying to them, hire attorneys. (Attorneys are highly educated people who study criminal behavior.) They don’t think it’s right for people to lie. Most of us shy away from dishonest behavior because it feels wrong, and we would not want anyone to do that to us. Some of us will do it anyway, and only stop when we get caught; fined, or put in jail, or both. 30k visits and 450 comments for teenagers in maid costumes strumming along to average music?
