the big guy is a Throat singer a Russian Mongolian, the group are from Siberia, Otyken are singing and speaking in Khakas, a Turkic language of Siberia.

They speak Khakass and Chulym languages. They have Khakass, Chulym and Selkup in their group. They belong to the small peoples of Russia.

These are not Mongols. These are northern inhabitants of Siberia, and they sing in three languages: Russian, Khakass and Chulym. The latter is an endangered language (like the people) and is protected by UNESCO. It is difficult to say who exactly these group members are by nationality; there are many peoples there and they are similar in many ways. I will say one thing for sure - they are Russians and Russian women. 🙂 Это не монголы. Это северные жители Сибири, а поют они на трёх языках: русском, хакасском и чулымском. Последний является языком исчезающим (как и народ) и находится под защитой ЮНЕСКО. Кто по национальности конкретно данные участники группы сказать трудно, народов там много и они похожи во многом. Одно скажу совершенно точно - они россияне и россиянки.

Они для нас бесценны. 🙂 Absolutely true. Let me just add that they are few in number, but far from insignificant. We have no insignificant peoples at all; each people in Russia is like a diamond of its own, unique cut. They are priceless to us. 🙂

Oh man, this came up as a recommendation last week on KZfaq and I have been absolutely obsessed since then (thank you algorithm)!!!! Everything they do is worth checking out and once heard you will want to hear again and again. Storm was actually the first video I watched and it blew me away. The mix of traditional and modern, the fact that the kick drum that makes this like edm is a traditional drum, the female vocals, the throat singing, the lyrics, all the other instrumentation...it's all just sooo good!!!! I almost never go to concerts anymore, but I would make an exception for these guys...feeling this beat in a crowd on its feet would just be transcendent!

Oh-too-ken is the correct pronunciation, the Y is pronounced as a U (very Russian). I love all of their music. They are members of the Chulyms people of Russia and iirc there are only 200 or so that speak their language anymore. Their MV's are always spectacular and generally show off some amazing Siberian landscapes. The ladies are gorgeous and are living advertisements to go and visit Siberia. I am sure many people will recommend Storm, Phenomenon, Legend, Smoke, Paradise Lost etc. Personally, I love watching the live version of Pulse. They recently did a collaboration with Ummet Ozcan on a song called 'Altay', I highly recommend checking it out.

Смотри как интересно получается. Только свинтили из страны воротилы шоу бизнеса, сразу начали появляться таланты из народа. Совпадение? 🙂 Что то я не верю в такие совпадения. Думаю OTYKEN это только первая ласточка (а может уже и не первая), у нас талантов много и всем есть что показать и что предложить послушать. И пробиться в шоу бизнес им теперь будет значительно проще, меньше палки в колёса вставлять будут. Вон OTYKEN уже и в Москве концерт устроили (был полный аншлаг), а может и по всей стране (увы не слежу). А там думаю и по всему миру гастроли не за горами.

👍 Yes. "Phenomenon" album by Otyken is a favorite. Azyans story and backstory is amazing too, not forgetting all of Otyken creating togheter like the whole story of creation. Azyan uses her beatiful voice, beautiful person and mind to pour her soul into the universal message of all, like they all do for all of us. Like all of you creators out there equally doo. Otuken is a tribal/modern music group from Siberia….they use traditional instruments and also throat-singing with a modern touch…the singers are fantastic! - I found them about a year and a half and they are on my wish list to see in concert! However, travel out of Russia is difficult at this time so I’m not sure when (if ever) they will tour Canada or the USA

Otyken from Krasnoyarsk Krai District. Am long time listener and will say you havent heard anything yet. Themes are similar but the sound is unpredictable. To fully appreciate this group you must know a bit of Siberian history & listen to their early stuff too. Current singer has some power, but previous lead vocalist was great too. Fantastic songs - very unique. Recommend just about every song - its all very COOL!

Otyken, pronounced Oh-Tau-Ken (I listened to the way they say it at their live shows) is currently one of my favourite bands. I’ve loved the mix of traditional with modern genres since I found Hednigarna in the 90’s. The songs Phenomenom and Storm are two of my favourites. The lead singer Azyan has an incredible voice. There’s a cool mini-doc video you should watch. Happy New Year John.

Happy New Year and congrats on finding Otyken. You have some other bits of background in the comments already, so forgive any duplication. They are a group from remote central Siberia. They are all members of small tribes (Chulym, Ket, Selkup, Tuvan, etc.) There are just over 200 native speakers of the Chulym language left in the world. Like other tribes in the region, they were decimated by centuries of invasion and war, and more recently by the rampant environmental destruction starting in the Soviet era. They play authentic traditional instruments, made by the band-members and their families. The artists also sew their own costumes. These are based on traditional indigenous outfits, but incorporate attributes of several Siberian tribes at once. They want to be ambassadors for all of the indigenous people of the region. Their instruments include: ikili (a two-stringed bowed instrument used in Siberia, similar to the Mongolian morin khuur); khomys (jew’s harp); rattles similar to maracas and tambourines; a local variant of the mandolin; and several kinds of drums, as well as modern electric bass guitar and electronic keyboard/synthesizer. They occasionally play a saxophone they found abandoned in the forest near one of their villages. The best description of their ikili is “You look like someone who no one should mess with when you have an instrument that’s made out of a freakin’ BEAST!” Otyken incorporate throat singing and chanting into their vocals, as well as imitating wild animal sounds and bird calls. When they were founded, they started off doing straight-up folk music. When they began to add a fusion of folk with modern rock sounds, they found themselves attracting fans from all over the world. They are fully aware that their language is dying. Part of their purpose in performing and recording their music is to leave behind a record of their culture before they disappear. To date, they have released tracks mainly in Chulym, but also in Khakass, and one song in Russian, addressed to the people who took their land. As they say in “Paradise Lost”: “The land is yours now, but the sky is ours.”

stop lying! The Russian state has never taken away lands from small nations. National traditions, crafts and economy have always been preserved. always coexisted together, helping each other. There are a lot of public associations and educational centers for small peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, and they are provided with state support and benefits. I've been listening to OTYKEN for a while now and this is from the latest stuff, to me, and I love this band, so different from everything but so contagious, I'd suggest other songs from them, the firsto ones I've heard: -LEGEND -PHENOMENON -STORM -GENESIS -KYKAKACHA and -MY WING. If you're really getting into this, the previous ones are a good start, all of them soooooooo gooooooooooooood 🔥🔥🔥 P.D. Also if you're into "different" I'd like to recommend listening to ERA, you've probably heard of them, if not here are a few songs: -AMENO -DIVANO -THE MASS -COME INTO MY WORLD (REMIX) -ENAE VOLARE MEZZO -INFANATI -MISERE MANI. Sorry I know it's a lot but I got so excited with this reaction and how open minded you are for music, good music that is, that I had to, had to, suggest this one band too "ERA"

Ii also discovered Otyken just 6 Monrhs ago and are still flashed how refreshing different, interesting but beautyful their sound is. And the singers vocals are so capable vor different sounds its just stunning. I bought all their albums and i dont regret it. I suggest for new entries their last album Phenomenon. Its some sort of Best Of. But i suggest you to listen to other songs too because the singers voice just sounds really beautyful on some songs and they deliver really unique melodies and sound.

I'm Thai. I traveled to Mongolia for 8 days. I spent time with men who had low, throaty voices most of the time. I asked him to teach me how to sing with the bass. It was really difficult, but I could do it. But it didn't sound as loud as theirs. 😅

Azyan is the lead female vocalist that you like.😏 Other similar but unique bands are The Hu Band (Mongolian Folk Metal) Try "Wolf Totem" Volfgang Twins (Viking Metal) Try "Jormungandr" or "Frost" Feurschwanz "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (Abba Cover) Folk Metal... Fun and amazing.🤭 Also if having a bad day and you need a smile try the incredible NanowaR of Steel (Italian Comedy Metal Band) Excellent instrumentation plus intellectual (and Not) humour. Try "Valhalelluja", Norwegian Reggaeton", Pasedena 1994, or Uranus. No swearing or coarseness. Always includes an amazing guitar solo.😂 Guarenteed to lower stress levels with laughter. Even if you miss most of the jokes, the music is amazing.😂🤘🔥🤘

As well as their solo music they did an amazing song 'Mother Nature ft LP' who is an American/Italian singer/songwriter who has a unique voice. It would be great if you could check it out. (I'm glad you got to go to Hongkong) :)

@@JohnReavesLive, good health! Have you listened to the joint work of "Otyken" called "Altay" with Ummet Ozkan yet? Throat singing is even more powerful there (Ummet generally brings its own unique flavor there) and soloist Azyan shows all the beauty and power of her voice there - the vibrations just punch to goosebumps, to tears! I've been listening to this band for years and, in my opinion, this is one of their best songs, if not the best.

Bro if you like this. Please find "Heilung | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE" Listen to it. I'd highly suggest doing a reaction to it. It's basically this vein except from the Nords! I have tons of amazing metal and other music that I can suggest to you. Including more throat singing. You were blessed to have run into somebody this developed. I humbly suggest you also listen to "Chinggis khaanii Magtaal - Batzorig Vaanchig" , and consider reacting to it as well. It is 1 man and it is also throat singing. You will love it. Very powerful.

I found OTYKEN after listening to The Hu. Phenomenon is good. Great reaction! For THE HU, I'd suggest "Yuve Yuve Yu" and "Wolf Totem." The HU is awesome live.
