Otyken means something along the lines of a sacred place where warriors lay down their arms and talk with each other. That's why they were exchanging weapons for instruments at the beginning. Otyken is made up of Siberian indigenous people representing several different tribes. They are geographic neighbors of the Mongolians so it's not surprising that the similar throat singing would be a part of their culture.

The group had planned to perform in the US in 2023, including on America's Got Talent by invitation from the organizers, but they had to postpone their live performance to 2025. I'm a New Zealander and found out about Otyken about 2 years ago. Got hooked immediately and am a fan ever since then. They make fantastic music even though no one can understand the language.

The name of the band Otyken (in Türkiye turkish Ötüken) is the ancient capitol of many turkic tribes. So Ötüken is a holy city for most Turkic clans and has a very important meaning in turkish Mythologie. The language, the costumes, the instruments and the throat singing.. everything here is Turkic origin. My mother tongue is Turkish so many words she sings sounds familiar to me although this dialect is very old. I would like to recommend you another video where you can see a more pure form of the ancient turkic music with throat singing. "Altay", their collab with Ummet Ozcan is fire. He's a very prolific singer, producer, and DJ. The band's name is pronounced Oh-too-ken, with the "Y" sounding like "ooh". There are English lyrics on most of their videos. Also, the beard on Ach, the throat singer, is fake; there are other videos with him wearing it too.

Listen to "Genesis" by them. It blew my mind! I would love to see them live! You can't sit still! And i play Rock n Roll! I'm hooked!
