Something really interesting is that the song came out in 2013 and Hwarang was filmed mid-2016! It’s almost like V predicted it 😮

I think this song was written by the Rapline before BTS debut, which is why the lyric video was just the three of them. After debut, they changed it to an OT7 song.

Oh you'll know the word once you see it - Suga managed to teach it to all of us, much to JK's dismay. Having him yell ***bal as loud and as long as he can during his concerts was hilarious. LOL Plus there's the Shi*** remix that El Capitxn did during the final Seoul concerts. I need him to release that.

This song is SO hype and fun to work out to. Its on my playlists to get stuff done and dance around. The layers of meanings and historical nuggets, plus a postive and possible political message in there is SOOOO BTS. This song deserves so much love and is one the list of ones that need that in depth explanation to really appreciate because the Korean references are just too numerous. They always look like they have a ton of fun. Also Army lore (as in I havent seen it confirmed but discussed) is that Jimin was initially bullied in HS for his accent when he was first a trainee by all the kids from Seoul. Taehyung was in a different class but asked his friends to look after Jimin. I've also heard other idols say they were looked down on for their regional accents and here baby BTS took all this negative energy and wrote the most positive cheeky song! That is their true super power is to channel anything that is sent to them postive or negative into amazing songs.

In Hawaii we use ‘Da Kine’ as a term that can mean anything. It is an all-purpose word that can stand in for objects, events, verbs, adjectives, and even adverbs depending on the situation. It is technically a Hawaiian Pidgin term that you can hear in everyday conversations in Hawaii. It can be confusing because it can mean anything 😂

In English, y’know is pretty close. For a word you can’t remember, e.g. tiger- ‘I saw a… y’know, like a stripy lion!’ For something you don’t want someone to overhear- ‘Shh, here’s the, y’know!’ For something embarrassing- ‘OMG I walked in on them…y’know!’

"You know" can be used to substitute for something you don't want to say specifically. ie: "and then they... you know" And there's also "yada yada yada" when you don't want to give a long explanation for something everyone already knows. And thingamajig, whatchamacallit, dohickey for things you don't know the names of. "Dude" probably has the broadest range because it takes its meaning by how you say it. A commercial once made fun of this by having two guys have a whole conversation using only dude.

When my husband and his friends get together over beer, they can hold whole conversations where every third word is a curse word that takes the place of just about any other word! (I'm sure you know what I mean.) It's amazing to me how they all know what they're talking about!

Yoongi has already learnt us Korean version of "fuck" which is "shibal". He screamed it at the top of his lungs during his every concert from D-DAY tour while performing his song Moonlight. If you check out the lyrics of this song, you will hear him saying Three years have passed Agust D Honestly, I don’t know how many songs to put in Fuck, I’m just doing it That's when he screams shibal as loud as he can along with ARMYs. He even did that during his concert in Seoul when his parents were there! He's really straightforward and authentic. I love him and miss him so much 💜

Yep, leave it to BTS to put social commentary in their songs almost all the time, with this song, as David thinks, possibly hinting to the reunification of Korea, which divided due to political concepts that got adopted from a revolutionary at a nearby nation. 03/19/24

You know, several years ago now, there was a smartphone game called SUPERSTAR BTS. It was a rhythm game... you try to tap the discs zooming towards you to the song playing. Uncomplicated but fun game and a nice way to interact with BTS songs. Sorry, got nostalgic for a moment. But this song broke me. It was the only one I could not master and Big Hit shut the game down before I had my chance. 😮😂

English- what popped into my head isn't PG. But....the F word works for everything. It can be in any place in the sentence and work. For nouns, we do have a few words that work to replace things. Stuff like doodad, thingamajig, etc works if you forget the name of something. You know is placed in sentences often. "You know, the thing that well, you know." Im sure there are others but those are the ones off the top of my head.

I think, 'thingy' might be the same as, 'Goesigi'. We use, Thingy' a lot in the UK if we can't remember a word especially someone's' name. I love regional accents. I'm from Cardiff and the accent is quite tricky to do unless you are born there. I haven't lived there for many years so I'm sad that I can no longer use my accent when I want to. The mention of the Hwrang in this makes me think of V with his flowing hair in that K-Drama

In Brazil we can use “coisa”, which means “thing”, as an object, subject, adjective and, *unofficially* as an verb lol it’s not grammatically correct but through daily our language is sooooo “alive” like it shifts pretty constantly and we can turn into a verb pretty much any word. Our language is gendered, meaning everything has an assigned gender and coisa is female; but we can use as coiso informally and change it to male. Also as a verb, is not “to do the thing”, is more like “to thing” or “coisar” ie “I have to thing the machine”. And, in context, we understand what the person means. Fun fact: we can turn into a verb any word, including lent words from other languages such as “shipping” (as in being a fan of a couple) to “shippar”, which is not correct in English but we integrated into our Brazilian vocabulary. It does have past present and future tense!! We did it even to “Friday” (yes the weekday), “to Friday” or “sextar” which means to go out - or used with sarcasm when someone stays home on a Friday. “To Saturday” or “sabadou” has the same meaning (tho it’s a diff verb tense from the previous) I’m sure we have a lot more, regionalized! But “coisa” is the most common, I think???

11:53 Yes, we have that magic word that can literally replace ANYTHING may it be a place, a person, time, verb, etc. It's called "kuan" but I don't think there's an English word for it. Here are examples how to use that word: Let's say you wanna go a restaurant you usually go to, but when you're friends ask you where you wanna hang out you suddenly forgot the name of the restaurant, so you'll just say you wanna go to the "kuan". And your friends will automatically know what you mean without you necessarily saying the name. Another example: Your mom see you getting ready for something, but she doesn't know what so she ask you what are you up to? But since it's a quite a hassle to explain, you just say, you wanna hang out with kuan to do kuan to the kuan at kuan. And you're mom will immediately know who, what, where, when. Basically "kuan" can be used to replace anything, may it be an action word, a person, a place, etc. It's commonly used when you forgot any particular word, or just refuse to say those words in general. And the listener will just understand the missing words.

I could definitely use another channel that will still break down bts songs with Korean context. I watch their explained vids because they are mostly well done but the DKDKTV channel itself is extremely problematic. I defended them at first thinking some army were being too harsh but then Danny went on camera on a podcast literally admitting they use BTS to blow their channel up even tho he still doesn't like kpop and a lot of other not great things which made me raise an eyebrow. But the huge blow was when they put out the trailer on their channel and on twitter of their reality show where they purposely rented out the location of IN THE SOOP season 1 with a dating show where Korean guys hook up with foreign girls and they brag about doing it in rooms where BTS members have slept. That just went over the line for me! People can disagree with my opinion that's fine but I no longer support their channel and what they do. They also got massively into kpop gossip news saying several rude things about idols and an Idol from a well known group BamBam from Got7 clapped back at him for stuff he said. I'm only army but I still think that that behavior on a huge youtube channel is disrespectful. I still recommend their old explained videos, even tho there are a few comments or opinions I don't agree with, they are still well done. But if I didn't have to cuz there is another channel that does them just as well with lyrical language & Korean cultural views I'd be recommending those vids instead.
