My List, using only knives that I actually own of course; BEATER: Ontario RAT 1 in D2. I actually don't really like this knife, and I think it's EXTREMELY over-rated, but, they ARE good hard-users, and I wouldn't care if I broke or lost one. BUDGET-EDC: Cold Steel Voyager, Large-Clip Point. One of my favorite EDC knives for years, and many days I'll choose to carry it over any of my higher-end stuff. HIGH-END EDC: Spyderco SpydieChef. This is probably the hardest category to decide. I have many knives that could go here, but I happen to have just recently acquired one of these (finally) and am currently in love with it, so I chose it. GENTLEMAN'S EDC: Case Swayback Gent in Red Jigged Bone. This has been my formal occasion knife for years. SAFE QUEEN: I don't really have any knives in this category. I won't buy a knife If I don't think I'll use it (not bashing people that do), just not that kind of collector. But the closest thing I have is a Demko AD-15. I'd like to add two categories, MULTI-TOOL, and FIXED-BLADE. MULTI-TOOL: While I love my Leathermans, I chose to go with something I could carry every day, regardless of how I was dressed or where I was going. For that I'd choose the Victorinox Tinker. Nearly perfect lightweight, easy to carry, with a basic, versatile load-out. FIXED-BLADE: Bark River Cub in black linen micarta and 3v. This is a nearly perfect do anything fixed blade. I love it and use it for everything from general camp use, to bushcraft and hunting/fishing. Keep up the good work!

This is great, thank you! I was a tiny bit surprised that you picked that Spyderco above some others I've seen in your collection, but it is a gorgeous knife and the Delica is a classic pattern at this point. The Delica was one of the first knives I ever bought, back in the mid-90s. It had a basic combo blade with a black FRN handle and I adored it. I carried it everywhere, all the time. I would still have it, and still be carrying it, if it hadn't been stolen out of my car, literally the first night I spent in Seattle after moving across the country from Vermont. (Today I'd pick the plain blade just because it's easier to deal with and more useful to me, but otherwise I would welcome the exact same knife back into my life.) I couldn't help but notice that your final five includes variety not just in terms of brands, but also blade type. I have a pretty small collection right now (fewer than 10 knives, two of which are old Case knives my dad gave me when I was about 20), and I'm verrrrry gradually growing it. One of the things I'm thinking about as I shop is how I could use each different blade type I look at. So that's why I noticed this aspect of your final five. Anyway, thanks! I love your content, and I particularly love how you preemptively speak to the various critics and nitpickers by emphasizing that you're basing your content on your taste and experience.

Good elimination to final 5 I saw the cold steel and already knew it would be the beater by cost and design. I to was thinking in my collection that the cold steel Prolite's 1 Tanto and 1 Prolite sport clip point represent that budget beater knife and they were under 30 dollars. German 4116 steel and apparently they lmade a line change and went to AUS10 and made the knives considerably more expensive almost double so I have to agree with you on your choice of the SR1 but if still available I would still opt for the old Prolite's.

Beater : becker BK-2 (the definition of sharpened pry bar) Budget EDC : Civivi brigand copper/154CM ( okay its not $75... its $79.50, I'll use the change in my center console in my truck to make up the difference lol) High End EDC : CRK Umnumzaan Special occasion : Benchmade proper 318 sheepsfoot Brass/S90V Safe Queen : while I still use it (Alot), its gotta be BY FAR my most expensive knife. Shawn from TripleBhandmade, aka BBB, makes a belt knife his $1000+ Trapper in the extremely infamous CPM REX-121. The vast majority of my collection is Spyderco's in exotic steels... Maxamet (Sage-1) Rex45 (Shaman & Native Chief) K390 (Police 4, Endura, Endela, Delica & Dragonfly) LC200N (Spydiechef) S110V (Military) V-Toku 2 (Stretch 2) ZDP-189 (Stretch 2) 52100 (Military) M4 (GB-1 & GB-2)... thats just off the top of my head.... not to mention the EDC knives I got for my wife S90V (Native 5 Teal ) and my father CTS-XHP (Chaparral Birdseye Maple) Edit : Not to mention the Murray Carter kitchen knives in Aogami Super aka Super blue. I feel like there was a folder in Aogami super as well... I'll have to check case lol Favorite overall steel... Gotta be K390. M4, 52100, Rex45, LC200N are all definitely up there as well

It's so hard for me to buy a Hinderer these days. I recently broke my $300 threshhold with my first Large Sebenza w/ Wood inlays... Naturally, I started looking at hinderers next... but damn... those asymmetric scales.... Paying that much money for a knife with G10.... I get that it's structurally sound, but holy shit, how can you not offer full TI on the regular? It makes me want to just buy a ZT Hinderer design, but then I'm so close to the price of a real Hinderer, I feel like an idiot for not just buying a Hinderer. So what do I do? I buy neither, and put in an order for a customer Sebenza. Lol.

You can get the Mini Griptilian base model for about $100. You’re better off finding Spydercos for less than $100 than you would Benchmades and the Spydercos would still have decent steels. Like the Chapparal Lightweight in Cts-Xhp, 95$. Spyderco Delica LW is also around 85$. Benchmades cheapest knife is gonna be the base model Griptilians or Bugout and they are around 100$-120$

Love your humor, especially when imitating commenters! Of course, my knife budget is VERY different than yours, and many others watching this. Right now, my beater is the Ontario Rat 2, my "high end" is a Spyderco Para 3 (although I think the Sage 5 is a legit contender, just don't own one yet), gentleman's is a Kizer Feist (love the front flipper), budget would probably be the CIVIVI Elementum (not mine, I bought it for my son's bd). Still searching for a "safe queen"...

My budget beater is different then most, Blade HQ Exclusive Kershaw Cryo in D2, the heat treat must be about perfect. Holds and edge better then a lot of the “better” steels I have. Budget beater is all about performance in hard tasks. I cut stuff with it. I Would originally only cut with a utility knife. It gets a lot of use but no pocket time. It lives in the kitchen or toolbox.

Great picks. I have 4 of the 5. Not exact same hardware or blades but all the same.

Good to see the Ria can be opened / Spydie flicked left handed. I’ve avoided this knife forever as I thought it was right hand only; seeing you Spydie flicking it now has me considering ordering one. How easy is it to Spydie flick it? You make it look effortless, but is it really that simple?
